22.01.2022 Update regarding our dog grooming services

20.01.2022 We’ve had this little canary handed in this morning from the Newport area. Minor wound on wings but otherwise well. Is anyone missing him?

20.01.2022 We have had many inquiries about dog grooming during covid-19. As many are aware dog groomers are not permitted to work during this current staging. If your pet’s health is affected by coat matting, we are able to do a welfare clip. This means a short shave all over and is done by one of our nursing staff. If you are concerned about your pet’s coat condition, please contact us and we can arrange a time to look at you dog's coat to see if a welfare clip is advised.

19.01.2022 Just a reminder of what NOT to feed your dog over the festive season. Also get your well meaning guests to read the list too

18.01.2022 LEPTOSPIROSIS in dogs There have been reports in the media today about Leptospirosis outbreaks occurring in dogs across Australia. We have not been advised of any outbreaks at this stage in our area. This nasty bacterial disease can also affect people and is spread by contamination from rat urine and stagnant water.... The Australian Veterinary Association recommends a vaccination for dogs in the areas of the outbreak. We will keep monitoring the situation and update you if it changes. We do have the Leptospirosis vaccine in stock that vaccinates against one strain of the bacteria. In the meantime we suggest keeping your dog out of stagnant water and not let them drink it.

17.01.2022 Here are some of the gorgeous cats boarding with us this month

16.01.2022 With the great news regarding dog grooming today we would like to let you know that grooming will re-open on here at Hobsons Bay Vet from Wednesday the 30th of September. We have been working hard behind the scenes to update and upgrade our grooming services. On Monday we will post further details regarding this including a direct phone number and email to speak with Krystina the groomer to book in your appointment. We will also be increasing our dog grooming days from 1 day... a week to 3 days a week. We currently have a waiting list of dogs that had missed their appointment during lockdown as well as clients that have contacted us during lockdown and put their dog on the wait list. These people will be contacted and booked in as first priority. If you want to get in early you can put your name down on this list currently and Krystina will contact you to book in Thanks for your patience during this lockdown, I look forward to getting all your dogs back to feeling their beautiful self as soon as possible -Dog groomer Krystina

15.01.2022 HAS ANYONE LOST A RAINBOW LORIKEET? We have a Lorikeet that we believe is someone’s pet. If this is your bird, please give us a call on 93914222.

14.01.2022 Grooming update Now that the government has released a guideline (if infection numbers stay low) date for when dog grooming is expected to resume, we would like to introduce the changes that will begin from the 28th of September. The biggest change being that Krystina will now be grooming under her own business name. What this means for you is that she has a direct number for you to contact, as well as her own social media, email and website (coming soon). This should streaml...ine grooming bookings as well as have increased appointment availability. Krystina will continue grooming out of Hobsons Bay Vet and is also still nursing here at the clinic so you will still see her (masked) face in clinic often. Below is a link to her business Bath & Bone As mentioned previously Krystina has a back log and waiting list of dogs, these appointments have priority. However, given she has increased her grooming days it should mean a faster turn around and no longer waiting 4 weeks for an appointment! We recommend contacting Krystina directly so she can add you onto the list getting in before the rush. We hope that this, along with other planned changes in clinic will make certain services better. I hope you are taking care during these challenging times and look forward to restarting grooming and get those woolly coats tamed! https://www.facebook.com/Bath-Bone-103568434831148

11.01.2022 It’s that time of year again for many species of baby birds! This article explains exactly what to do if you see a fledgling bird on the ground. If the bird is injured, please call Wildlife Victoria on 8400 7300 and take the bird to your nearest vet clinic for examination. Please record the exact place the bird was found so we can return it to it’s parents if suitable to do so.

10.01.2022 EXCITING NEWS! Puppy school classes are resuming at our clinic. They are being run by the wonderful Jasmine from Loose lead pets. Please call us on 93914222 or email [email protected] for more information.

09.01.2022 Heatstroke is a very serious, life threatening condition. It can be rapidly fatal and requires urgent treatment. Unfortunately we are already seeing a number of dogs suffering from heat exhaustion. Signs of heatstroke are -excessive panting and breathing distress... -drooling and salivating -very red or pale gums -dizziness and incoordination -weakness -collapse If your pet is experiencing heatstroke, douse them with cool water and get them to a vet immediately. We recommend a few easy points to follow during the warmer months to avoid heatstroke. 1- Do not exercise your dog if it is over 25 degrees outside. 2- If the temperature is close to 25 degrees reduce the length and intensity of exercise. 3-Provide lots of water to drink 4-Provide adequate shade for your dog outside. 5-Dogs with respiratory issues, heart issues, are obese, have short noses and are elderly should not be exercised if the temperature is over 20 degrees as these dogs are extremely vulnerable to heat exhaustion. 6-If the ground is too hot for you to touch with your hand or walk barefoot on, then it’s going to burn your dogs feet so please don’t walk them on it. 5-NEVER leave your pet in the car as temperatures rise quickly even on mild days. Please keep safe this summer

07.01.2022 How cute are those ears? Jim the German Shepherd puppy came in for his vaccination and was such a good boy, sitting for treats and giving us perfect head tilts. This young man is only 14 weeks old but weighs a healthy 20kg! He’s just a big love bug. ... Puppies have a way of brightening up your day and we have been privileged to meet many of your new family members in recent months

04.01.2022 After being empty for most of the year, it’s wonderful to see our cattery has life in it again! Here are some of our beautiful cats boarding with us at the moment.

01.01.2022 Puppy classes have started up again at the clinic and are being run by Jasmine from Loose lead pets. Not only do the puppies learn valuable life skills during the classes, they also develop a positive association with the clinic which is great for when they visit for other procedures. The classes booked out really fast and the next available class is now in January, otherwise Jasmine also offers online classes. ... Also....look how well behaved her dog Ernie is! Dropping in the middle of a room under high distraction. Good boy Ernie!

01.01.2022 COVID 19 update. We are now allowed to lift restrictions on the non urgent consultations that we had to postpone over the last few months. This means adult booster vaccinations and general check ups are now permitted. ... Please be patient with us when making an appointment as we have a bit of catching up to do but we will fit you in as soon as we can. Regular COVID-19 restrictions are still in place such as mandatory masks and social distancing when inside the clinic, using hand sanitizer before using the eftpos machine and one person bringing your pet in for its consultation unless arrangements have already been made with our staff. We will continue to examine your pets in our treatment area out the back once you have spoken to the vet in the consult room. Thank you to everyone for your patience during this difficult year, we appreciate the support.
