24.01.2022 Santa Update. Santa is heading down to beenak and kirth kiln now. Listen out for the trucks.
24.01.2022 A few photos from some of our members at what they did for the Anzac Dawn service this morning. Probably better fire fighters & emergency catering crew than photographers, but fantastic to see members paying their respects this morning in their own ways. Well done everyone. If any other brigade members have a photo they happy to share, send them to us & we will add them to the rest. :-)
23.01.2022 Hi All Brigade Members, With the easing of some restrictions for Covid-19 the brigade is now able to start some training again. We will look at possibly starting again in the next couple of weeks either on a Wednesday night or Sunday morning. There will be restrictions on what we can or can’t do & how many members can attend training at the one time, so please be patient & co-operate with the BMT in adhering to these restrictions. The full list from the CFA’s Chief Officer of... what we can or can’t do is following. Brigade training With the announcement by the Victorian Government that gatherings of up to 10 people outdoors will be allowed, CFA has drafted principles to guide the resumption of brigade training, with the following requirements. All training limited to outdoors Only skills maintenance training is allowed Maximum of 2 crews (4 persons in total per crew) at any one time Each crew is under the control, direction and responsibility of a Crew Leader The Crew Leader is required to maintain a tracking register; which should record: Date / Activity / Location / Time start finish / Crew Leader details / all members names and contact details Cleaning protocols for appliances, equipment as well as Station are undertaken post training as per Guidance Notes and the coronavirus COVID 19 Cleaning eLearning package The tracking register MUST be available 24/7 should any exposure be suspected The usual Chain of Command at the Brigade ensures these protocols are in place and maintained. Even as restrictions are gradually eased, it’s critical that you continue to practice good health hygiene and keep 1.5 metres between yourself and others. If you feel unwell, even if you have tested negative for coronavirus (COVID-19), stay at home. It is important to note that all other activities including attendance at Regional Training Campuses, indoor training, meetings and awards, remain suspended. New skills acquisition training and face-to-face recruitment activities will not occur during this period. Members are still encouraged to undertake online training for new skills. If any brigade member wants to do an online course & requires assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact brigade 3rd Lieutenant, Brett Kerford, as he would be very happy to assist. We will advise of a starting date for brigade training shortly. If you have any questions or queries please don’t hesitate to contact the brigade management team.
21.01.2022 The Hoddles Creek Fire Brigade catering crew were called out to assist/feed the emergency service crews searching for a man missing in the East Warburton area late last week. Thank you to all the catering crew members & a couple of the brigade firefighters as well, who helped feeding the emergency service search crews, including the Friday night dinner crew who were not needed as the gentleman was found safe & sound mid Friday of last week. Great work & great result.... A few photos of the catering crew in action.
21.01.2022 Hi All. Hoddles Creek Fire Brigade recommenced training a few weeks back, so you might see us at the station or around the area. Its all to brush up on our skills, after the long absence due to Covid-19 restrictions, for any emergencies and in preparation for any potential fire season.
21.01.2022 The brigade has been notified that Eastern Health will have a mobile covid-19 screening clinic at the Hoddles Creek Cricket Ground/Reserve this coming Thursday, the 10th of September, from midday to 1pm. This is not to indicate that there is any positive cases in the the area, its just to offer an opportunity for residents of more remote communities a chance to be tested, if they wish to. This screening is free of charge; all you need is your Medicare card. No booking is required but wait times may vary.
20.01.2022 I little thank you to the Brigade from the Royal Children's Hospital for this years Good Friday Appeal. :-)
20.01.2022 A big thank you to all involved in the building of the security fence & roof for the Brigades generator last Sunday. We would especially like to thank Marty Garthwaite in assisting the Brigade with this project & two of the brigades catering team Kat & Guido for supplying the superb morning tea & lunch, it really was appreciated by us all. :-) This project received grant funding from the Australian Government
18.01.2022 The Brigade would like to extend our heart felt deepest sympathy to the family & friends of William Wall. Our deepest condolences to you all at this very sad & difficult time. To all the searchers, Police, SES & volunteers, who tried so hard to find William safe & well, we know how shattered you must feel today. You all did us proud & you did everything you could do. Finally to the Hoddles Creek Fire Brigade Catering Crew, who prepared meals for the searchers Tuesday Night & ...yesterday, we know you are all feeling flattened by the very sad news, but you also did us proud with your efforts. Rest in peace young William. Taken way to soon.
18.01.2022 Fantastic news today that the Hoddles Creek Fire Brigade will be getting a new fire station. It will be replace the old fire station on the same site. The old station has given the brigade & the community an incredible service for many many years & was built up over time by the hard work & generosity of both past & present brigade members & the Hoddles Creek community, but she is ready to pass the baton to a new modern station to meet the brigades & communities needs of today.... It will be very sad to see the old station go & one or two of us may even shed a little tear, but equally we are over the moon to be on the list for a new station. A huge thank you to everyone who have worked so hard to make this happen.

15.01.2022 Thank you Brett and the team at Bretrac Engineering Pty Ltd for creating and customising our hand sanitising stand. This has allowed our members to safely conduct their covid-19 checks before attending any fire calls or station maintenance.
15.01.2022 A couple of images of some of the storm damage around Hoddles Creek today.
13.01.2022 A heap of photos from the mineshaft/dugout rescue last Sunday. Thanks to all who took them & passed them on to us to post here including Brianna Woolf from Upper Yarra SES & Monbulk Fire Brigade. :-)

12.01.2022 We thought this was to good a cause not to share. A fantastic local business doing it very hard at the moment.
11.01.2022 The Hoddles Creek Fire Brigade, along with many other brigades in the Yarra Valley were called to support Warburton Fire Brigade to a house fire in Warburton on the 2nd of June. Sadly the house was lost, despite the best efforts of all involved. The owners weren' home at the time. The Hoddles Creek Catering Crew were also called to feed all who were there. Thanks to all the brigade members who helped out that morning. Below are a couple of photos of the catering crew in action.
11.01.2022 Santa Update. Santa has made it to Willis Road and will be going towards Glenara Road shortly.
09.01.2022 When the pager went off last Sunday afternoon & we read man stuck inside mineshaft, our hearts sank as this is a callout we fear the most, given the amount of dugouts & mineshafts scattered throughout the Hoddles Creek & surrounding areas & how deep some of these are. Fortunately the gentleman & his puppy were only about ten metres down this particular mineshaft/dugout & although it took a couple of hours to get them out, both came out with relatively few injuries. Great job ...& great work by the Hoddles Creek Fire Brigade members, Upper Yarra SES, Little Yarra CFA, Monbulk CFA, Dandenong CFA, Hallam CFA, Wandin CFA, Ambulance Victoria, CFA Commanders Owen & Morrow in working together to achieve such a fantastic result. A shout out to Adam, his children & of course Griff the puppy for staying calm despite the situation they found themselves in & we wish you all the very best for the future, although Griff, could you keep it a little less adventurous in the future. :-)
08.01.2022 Hi All. The brigade is concerned that with the covid-19 stage 4 restrictions & now significant & on going power outages in the Hoddles Creek area, that some residents maybe in need of some assistance, but are unable to or are reluctant to seek assistance. If you do need help or know of someone who made need assistance, please contact either the brigade or the Yarra Ranges Council & we will certainly try to help in anyway we can. It might be a hot meal, a shower or even some a...dvice on what you can or can't do at this time. If you need help or know of someone who needs help, please contact either the brigade or the Yarra Ranges Council. Please share this to help get the message out there. Thanks. Hoddles Creek Fire Brigade
08.01.2022 We will remember them. Lest We Forget.
08.01.2022 The Hoddles Creek Fire Brigade would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a happy and safe New Year. Bring on 2021.
05.01.2022 The Hoddles Creek Fire Brigade Members would like to extend their sincere gratitude to all involved with the installation of our generator, further enabling us to support the station and the local community. We now have the confidence and ability to provide refuge and uninterrupted support to the community in the event of a local emergency where the state power supply becomes unreliable or is lost. We would like to thank Tony Smith MP for the opportunity to apply for this gra...nt funding and Councillor Jim Child for his support of our application. We look forward to seeing your friendly faces when restrictions ease so that we can have a chat and answer any questions that you may have. This project received grant funding from the Australian Government. Take care and stay safe HCFB
05.01.2022 Santa has arrived at Willis Road and will be eading back shortly to Falls, Worlley & Sylvia Roads.
04.01.2022 I bit more news footage on this one, a few Hoddles Creek Fire Brigade members might be in line for a fine here.
04.01.2022 The brigade attended a car accident on the 28th of July, on Beenak Road, when the vehicle hit a tree. Although the driver was taken to hospital, it was only for minor injuries & observation & was expected to make a full recovery. Thanks to the police, ambulance & all the Hoddles Creek members for a great job in these difficult times.
04.01.2022 One of the Hoddles Creek residents had a bit of a run in with a wasp last week, giving her a sting & swelling her ring finger. The swelling meant the ring on that finger now couldn't be removed & it was causing her some discomfort. Sylvia & her husband contacted our Brigade Captain, Leonie Turner & she arranged for them to meet Cam McDonald from Upper Yarra SES at the Wesburn SES Station, where Cam gently & successfully removed the ring from the finger giving Sylvia relief. A big shout out to Cam from Upper Yarra SES on a great job. Couple of photos of the successful ring removal.
04.01.2022 A few photos to go with Upper Yarra SES below video of today's successful horse rescue.
03.01.2022 The Brigade was paged today to an animal rescue in Correa Road, along with Upper Yarra SES & Macclesfield Fire Brigade with their large animal rescue equipment. The first information received was that a tree had fallen on a horse, which certainly made us fear the worst. Fortunately it was a large branch that had pinned the horse to the ground sometime during the night.... Upper Yarra SES did a fantastic job in removing the branch from the horse, before the Macclesfield gang went to work in getting the horse moved to a safer place, to get him back on his feet, all under the watchful eyes of a fantastic local Vet & of course the concerned owners of the old guy(Horse). Our Brigade members assisted both the Upper Yarra SES & Macclesfield with the man & women power, especially when it came to moving the old guy around. A fantastic result & hopefully he will make a full recovery. Great positive outcome in these difficult times. :-)
03.01.2022 Vale John French The brigade mourns the loss of Ex- Brigade Captain John French, member of the brigade from the mid 1970’s to Mid 1980’s. John served as 3rd lieutenant at the brigade in 1976/77, 2nd Lieutenant 1978/81 before becoming captain of the brigade in 1982, serving in that roll until 1985.... Although John & the family moved out the area in the late 80’s he continued as a firefighter joining the Warrenbayne Brigade when they moved to Benalla and since 1989 served 30 years in the NSW Rural fire service - Southern Border Team based in Albury NSW, as secretary of the Paragon Fire Brigade and also as a Deputy Group Officer. He also served a stint as acting Fire Control Officer in the early 90’s. John has left a legacy of service to his local communities and his son Chris said that his dad always remembered fondly of his time at Hoddles Creek Fire Brigade and the community it protected. John passed away on the 24th of August, 2020. . The brigade extends our deepest & heartfelt sympathy to Sue, Chris & family. Rest in Peace Thankyou to Chris French & Phil Coulson for the photos & contributions to this dedication.
