17.01.2022 12 new cases of COVID-19 have been diagnosed in NSW between 8pm on 31 July and 8pm on 1 August. For the latest list of COVID-19 locations, visit: https://www.ns...w.gov.au/covid-19/latest-news-and-updates Today, NSW passed another testing milestone. More than 1.5 million COVID tests have now been administered across the state since the start of the pandemic around six months ago. There were 22,427 tests reported in the 24-hour reporting period, compared with 23,458 in the previous 24 hours. As reported yesterday, an 83-year-old man who had COVID-19 sadly passed away yesterday morning, taking the total number of deaths in NSW from confirmed COVID-19 cases to 52. Of the 12 new cases reported to 8 pm last night: One case is a traveller in hotel quarantine Three cases attended the Apollo restaurant on 25 July Two cases attended the Mounties Club in Mount Pritchard on 23 July Five cases are close contacts of known cases One case is locally acquired with no known source identified. One case attended the Advance Early Learning childcare centre in Merrylands while infectious on 27, 28 and 29 July 2020. A second case has been reported this morning. The centre is currently closed for cleaning and close contact tracing is underway. One case counted in yesterday’s numbers attended the Toronto Court House (Toronto Drug Court) on Monday, 27 July. As a precaution, cleaning of the courthouse will take place today. All close contacts have been identified and being contacted this morning. As a precaution, anyone who attended the Toronto Court House between 7am and 2pm on Monday, 27 July should watch for any symptoms and should even mild symptoms develop, they must self-isolate and seek urgent testing for COVID-19. One case attended Canterbury Hurlstone Park RSL on Monday 27 July from 6:30 pm to 8 pm. Patrons and staff of the Canterbury Hurlstone Park RSL who attended at the same time should monitor for symptoms and if symptoms develop, seek testing and isolate themselves pending the test results. One case attended Neeta Shopping Centre in Fairfield on number of times between 23 July and 30 July, including the Soul Pattinson Chemist, Woolworths and Fresco Juice Bar. While the risk to others is thought low, anyone who visited the shopping centre on these days should to monitor for symptoms and if symptoms develop, seek testing and isolate themselves pending the test results. For the full list of dates for venues and locations associated with confirmed cases, please visit https://www.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/latest-news-and-updates. There are now: 98 cases associated with Thai Rock Wetherill Park cluster 58 cases associated with the Crossroads Hotel cluster 33 cases associated with the funeral events in Bankstown and surrounding suburbs cluster including nine associated with Mounties in Mount Pritchard. 24 cases associated with the Potts Point cluster, including 18 cases linked to the Apollo Restaurant cluster and 6 cases are now linked with the Thai Rock Restaurant Potts Point cluster (2 cases attended both). It has now been more than 14 days since the last case associated with the Batemans Bay Soldiers Club. Eight cases were associated with the cluster. While most cases in the past week have been associated with local clusters and close contact with known cases, seven in the last week have not been able to be linked to known cases. These unlinked cases have been in people from South Western, Western Sydney, South Eastern Sydney and Sydney LHDs. It is extremely important that we all keep our families and loved ones safe. To help stop the spread of COVID-19: - If you are unwell, stay in, get tested and isolate. - Wash your hands regularly. Take hand sanitiser with you when you go out. - Keep your distance. Leave 1.5 metres between yourself and others. - We strongly recommend you wear a mask in situations where you cannot physically distance. A full list of COVID-19 testing clinics is available at the following link, or people can visit their GP: https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/Infectio//Pages/clinics.aspx Anyone directed to undertake a 14-day self-isolation period must stay in isolation for the full period, even if they test negative. This is because early testing may not detect an infection, and release from self-isolation based on a negative test could allow an infectious person to infect others in the community. The self-isolation period is 14 days as most people who are infected and develop symptoms will do so within 14 days of infection. There are 107 COVID-19 cases being treated by NSW Health. Nine people were in intensive care and four were ventilated as of 8pm last night. Eighty eight per cent of cases are in non-acute, out of hospital care.

05.01.2022 - PUBLIC HEALTH ALERT - NEW COVID-19 CASES IN NEWCASTLE (Updated at 11.05am, 6 August) Since our alert last night (5 August, 8.15pm), a second case of COVID-19 ...has been confirmed in Newcastle; a close contact of the teenager announced yesterday. The District is continuing to investigate the source of that case’s infection. This latest case is a male in his 20s. Hunter New England Local Health District is urging anyone who attended the following venues at the specified times to immediately self-isolate and seek testing: - Bennett Hotel, Hamilton Friday 31 July, from 5.30pm to 10.00pm - Greenroof Bar and Restaurant, Hamilton Friday 31 July, from 10.00pm to 12 midnight - Wests New Lambton Sunday 2 August, from 5.00pm to 7.30pm. - Sushi Revolution, Hamilton on Saturday 1 August, from 12noon to 1.00pm The venues have been notified and are undergoing cleaning. Contact tracing is underway. Hunter New England Health also urges any patrons who visited the following venues at the times specified to be alert for symptoms, and if any develop to get tested and self-isolate immediately: - Queens Wharf Hotel Saturday 1 August from 9.30pm to 11.00 pm - Sydney Junction Hotel, Hamilton Saturday 1 August, from 12 midnight to 1.30am Sunday 2 August - McDonald Jones Stadium Sunday 2 August, 7:30pm to end of game, Newcastle Jets match. The above public health recommendations follow a rigorous contact tracing process where an infected individual’s movements and interactions are analysed. This enables the Public Health unit to determine if there was a reasonable chance other individuals may have been infected with the virus. In this case they would be considered a close contact and required to self-isolate until 14 days after they last saw the person or attended a place where that person visited, even if they are feeling well. Casual contact includes instances where transmission is less likely. For example where someone had less than 15 minutes face-to-face contact over the course of a week with a confirmed case, or was in the same closed space with them for less than two hours. Casual contacts are not required to self-isolate, but are still encouraged to seek testing should they develop symptoms. Dr Kat Taylor, Public Health Controller for Hunter New England Health’s COVID-19 response said that Hunter New England Health is still working to identify any further contacts or venues visited by both individuals, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available. All close contacts will be notified and required to isolate for 14 days. It is vital people in the community continue to present for testing if experiencing symptoms to limit the spread of the virus. I encourage everyone to follow directions they receive about home isolation and quarantine, and maintain COVID-safe practices of physical distancing, coughing or sneezing into their elbow, and regularly washing their hands, she said. With the identification of additional cases in the Newcastle area, The District is expecting an increase in the demand for testing. To ensure we can best serve the community during this time, we have enhanced our local testing capability. In addition to expanding our call centre capacity and the number of phone lines available to improve booking wait times, we will extend hours and capacity at a number of local clinics. However, please be patient if visiting a clinic or calling for a booking. We have thousands of testing opportunities throughout the course of today and will see people as quickly as possible, Dr Taylor said. For a complete list of COVID-19 testing clinics and booking details, please visit https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/Infectio//Pages/clinics.aspx

03.01.2022 Welcome back to our neighbour!

03.01.2022 As part of Scam Awareness Week, we’re going to take a look at kind of scams that have been circulating since the start of the pandemic. Scammers have been pret...ending to be government agencies providing information on COVID-19 through text messages and emails ‘phishing’ for your information. These contain malicious links and attachments designed to steal your personal and financial information. Scamwatch has received over 3900 scam reports mentioning the coronavirus with over $3.1 million in reported losses since the outbreak of COVID-19 (coronavirus). Common scams include phishing for personal information, online shopping, and superannuation scams. What should you do if you receive a text from a government agency and you aren’t sure if it’s real or fake? Firstly, never click the link in the message. Instead, open your internet browser and search for the message you just received with the word ‘scam.’ If you are unable to find any information, go to the government website to search for information or a contact number to confirm the information. Never click the link in the message.
