08.01.2022 Congratulations to Instructor Grace who has just become a peer reviewer for the Australian Psychological Society (APS) journal for the College of Educational and Developmental Psychologists. For new findings or papers to be published in academic journals they must first undergo a peer review process. Peer reviewers are selected on their area of expertise and relevance to the type of journal, and they’re responsible for evaluating the quality of the work before it is accepted... for publication. The Educational and Developmental Psychologists journal publishes articles that focus on well-being across the lifespan. Grace’s selection as a peer reviewer was made based on her research focus in the area of behavioural and emotional well-being, with specific focus on attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, autism spectrum disorder, and anxiety disorders in children and adolescents who were born preterm. We look forward to learning about the front line of research in these areas and determining how they can be applied to assisting with developing our students!

01.01.2022 Today marks the last week of ADHD Awareness Month! Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a common neurodevelopmental condition occurring in approximately 5% of children. ADHD is characterised by persistent patterns of inattentive and/or hyperactive and impulsive behaviour that disrupts different areas of a child's life. This may look like difficulties with sustaining attention, controlling behaviour, and regulating emotions. A range of interventions exist for c...hildren diagnosed with ADHD and their families, including pharmacology, educational, and cognitive-behavioural techniques. However, recent research has turned the spotlight onto empirical investigations of the benefits of TAEKWONDO, showing that our sport is beneficial in reducing the severity and frequency of ADHD-related symptoms in both young children and adolescents. While we were already aware of the many benefits of Taekwondo for children with ADHD, we are SO pleased that research also supports our first-hand experiences! These findings will help us to continually evolve our evidence-based approach to child development
