After pneumonia, anaemia and a kidney infection curtailed her last three 100km races this legend of the ultra run family put her past disappointments behind her and got it done. 23.01.2022 "The only thing harder than speaking, is not speaking at all," says Burt Kennedy the man behind the @immortality_project2020 who set off today to run The Great North Walk non-stop, a 276km trail between Newcastle and Sydney. Burty Burt is a bit of an endurance running legend, whos heart is as big as his goals. Hes aiming to finish the trail in 45hours to highlight the need to talk about depression and raise funds for The Black Dog Institute.... "I am doing it to raise awareness of depression on behalf of the Black Dog Institute because of my own personal experiences with depression," he said. "And at the moment, I think its pretty relevant for a lot of people with everything that is going on." 17.01.2022 If youve been wondering what the difference is between the Clifton 7 and Rincon 2 youre not alone. The Rincon 2 (pictured) is HOKA ONE ONEs lightest neutral road running shoe. It is insanely light. The mens version weighs 218g and the womens version is a touch over 200g.... Its extremely cushioned. Thats because weve used the same amount of foam and cushioning as the Clifton. But, heres where its different, because of the specific materials used in the upper and the strategic placement of rubber for outsole protection the Rincon 2 is approximately 17-18% lighter than the Clifton. Shes also a soon to be first time mum, occupational therapist, PhD student, running coach and gym instructor. She has something important to say and a great question to ask of you all. Take it away Kel.... "I feel lucky to be a glass half full kinda gal who can see the silver linings in almost everything. I am an ultra runner. I am strong. I am healthy. I am resilient. I am educated. The downside of these things is that sometimes people forget that I am also human. I have been judged as a running pregnant lady. I have been judged for my desire to have my husband present for the birth and first few days of my babys life in the middle of a pandemic. I have had some friends so keen to save the world that they forgot about empathy. Even those closest to me assume that all is ok, because well, Kellie is always ok. And most of the time I am. But its ok not to be ok sometimes. Pregnancy has stopped my robotic antics and allowed all the emotions to roll whenever they feel like it. This is a tough time for everybody around the whole world and its ok to be vulnerable. We need to acknowledge our feelings and remember to reflect on all the great things to come out of this, because there are truly lots. Just a few on my list are having the time to finish my PhD, reallocating travel money to renovating the house, having the time to get more sleep, getting a promotion, finally seeing telehealth become an acceptable option for people in healthcare, being able to demonstrate the benefits of a flexible workforce. Jim is chasing the Hardrock Hundred Fastest Known Time on the clockwise route. Reports put him through around 106km in about 14 hours - thats the top of Handies Peak at just over 14,000 feet. Course Record is 22:41 so he still has plenty of running to do with some very big climbs and some reduced oxygen levels. By big c...limbs, we mean that by the time he has around 140km and maybe 18-19 hours in his legs, hell be climbing Little Giant out of Cunningham Gulch - around 800 metres straight up over just 3km.
