12.01.2022 With the announcement of the new CLUB rego scheme that we have spent a lot of time and effort getting to this point, there seems to be a lot of negativity aroun...d Club involvement and CLUB runs. Let me try and clear this up a bit WHY DO I HAVE TO BE IN A CLUB? I SHOULD JUST BE ABLE TO GET THIS REGO AND NOT WORRY ABOUT A CLUB. The clubs take a certain amount of responsibility regarding administration, education and to a lesser degree enforcement of DoT requirements. That is why folks are required to join a registered club. Ultimately the onus is on the owner to do the right thing. Club fees are usually inexpensive and there are numerous to choose from depending on your specific interest in classic machines. (credit to Greg Macham for the above paragraph) All rego schemes of this type across the country have club membership as an element. Without the club involvement, there would be NO club rego. The Government use club membership as an indication that you are infact an enthusiast not just someone with an old car trying to get cheap rego. I WANT TO DRIVE MY CAR WHENEVER I LIKE, NOT JUST ON CLUB RUNS. This is actually something we asked for as a part of the 90/90 push. I call it free driving and its a major part of why a log book is required (so you can check off your 90 days). The free drive part has not been picked up by the DoT and they have specified for club events only. This isnt as bad as it seems at first glance, not as good as free drive, but not the end of the world. As it stands with code 404 (the scheme for un modified vehicles we already have in place) you can have an impromptu run (to your mates place, fish and chip shop, beach, whatever) simply by sending a text message to your club advising of the run (I believe there is an "APP" for this) you then head off. You dont have to wait for a reply. I do not believe it would be applied any differently to the new scheme. We will still be pushing for the free drive aspect among other things This scheme is still somewhat under construction, what has been announced is basically a framework to work off, so things are going to change with it as time goes on. We will see how negotiable the DoT and Government are in the near future, but even at the announcement, they seemed to understand a couple of initial objections that we made. See more
