13.01.2022 Friday is always a good day to review achievements of the week. At Hold Strong 365 this week, Audible books have been a big feature and everyday activities like driving, washing, folding, walking the dog etc have become more productive...and enjoyable! Keep an eye out for upcoming book reviews This week also involved a deep dive into additional Meditation teaching techniques and education. The research on the health impact of stress on our body is both fascinating and fr...ightening in equal parts! Seek time out each day to quiet the mind and calm the body Just loving summer and the increase in new people to classes. Trying new activities to keep the body moving and challenged, healthy and strong is a great intention for the New Year. You've heard that old saying....''if you don't use it, you lose it"". With that in mind, a new timetable of Hold Strong 365 classes will be posted shortly with kick off in Feb. Have an awesome weekend : Hold Still Photography

08.01.2022 Reflection... The further along my journey I go, the more I love birds. I recently come to this realisation while out walking.a very frequent activity of ours. I have always been enchanted by the beautiful sounds Rosellas make while chatting in a tree. The sound of their singing fills me with such joy and amusement ...and it does feel sometimes like they are talking to me. Hearing birds is something that has been a big part of my whole life and although I didn’t understa...nd it until now, calls on memories from childhood through to adulthood. My Mum always had birds and they would finish a tune she would whistle (totally fascinating to me) and get all grumpy with her when returning home from a visit to Canberra (they wouldn’t talk to her for days!). Mum still enjoys the company of Currawongs and Magpies I don’t know how I didn’t make the connection earlier but nevertheless, better late than never and this newly realised passion is giving me an opportunity to be in the present moment ... not worrying about 'stuff'. Along with gorgeous parrots, while hanging clothes on the line, I enjoy listening to the bauble of our backyard Magpies who come to steal our dogs food each daymuch to his annoyance The Seagulls down the coast intrigue me as they are so bold and appear to enjoy being in front of a camera lens ... making great models. My ears are also attuned to Black Cockatoos there’s just something majestic about their calling to each other. As a nostalgic person by nature, this connection between my past and present is providing much comfort and I notice the impact this has on my emotional and physical state. Finding moments to be mindful and calm and noticing the impact this has on the body can be powerful in a hectic life and doesn’t have to involve going too far from home to experience. What do you remember as a child that has become more important to you as you grow older and how does it play out in your every day life See more

05.01.2022 Take a little time each day

01.01.2022 Happy Monday! I was reminded on the weekend of how both remarkable and fragile our spine is and how important it is to take care of our body. It’s amazing to stop and think about all the everyday activity our back is subject to like rolling over in bed, getting up, bending to pick up our shoes and put them on etcand that’s before we have breakfast These are just some of the simple movements our spine goes through. Our lumbar spine, in particular, becomes at risk due to too... much sitting or standing without breaks, as well as the everyday lifting and shifting of heavy things we must do like groceries, laundry and children. This together with whatever you need to do at work, everyone is so busy! It's no wonder we often take spine health for grantedme included. My wake-up call was during the work-from-home period last year when I was standing for far too long working at a computer and not taking breaks. My lower back became very grumpy and I thought ‘’Oh no, my back is gone’’. This was very scary and after some physio treatment, I was ok but it was the kick I needed. The good news is that just a few minutes a day of deep core work can help to lubricate the spine, prepare our body to bend in all the directions it’s built for, balance and engage the deep supportive muscles while moving load. The first step is focusing on our breathing. Deep in breaths (inhale) followed by really long out breaths, right to the bottom of your belly (exhale). This activates the deep core muscles by way of a reflex we all have. For many reasons, this reflex is turned off or delayed and it just takes time to rebuild the connection. This is one of the techniques used in my Yoga/Pilates classes to help develop a strong core to support our spine so we can do all the things we love everyday.safely!
