24.01.2022 Our Church at Uki is NOT for sale In late 2019 the Anglican Diocese of Grafton presented plans for a major restructure which included a list of potentially saleable church buildings. Holy Trinity Anglican Church was on the list. Almost 1000 people signed a petition opposing the sale of what has been referred to as ‘Uki’s Sacred Space’. Support letters were written by church attenders, members of the Uki community and wider and by representatives of UKIRA and the historical ...society. All were submitted within the two months allowed. A variety of reasons the church is cherished were given: It was built by and for the village as a WW1 memorial and is Heritage Listed. It has served generations up into the present celebrating their family milestones including births, deaths and marriages. It continues as a place of worship particularly known for its gender and interfaith inclusion and its spiritual and emotional connectivity and support. It has become famous for its crowded concerts, its fostering of the arts and of justice initiatives particularly around the plight of refugees and it is available for small group gatherings and art exhibitions. Its labyrinth and spiritual garden is a meditation resource available and used 24/7. We are immensely grateful to all those who worked to save this Sacred Space and to those who reversed the decision, particularly to Rev Lyndon Mulholland of the Murwillumbah Parish who spoke up for us and recognised both the church’s ethos and the building’s value to the wider Uki Community. Below is some of the evidence for all you history buffs.Tweed Daily, 22nd May 1934, p. 5. UKI Church of England Bazaar 1921...Continue reading

09.01.2022 To the Bishop of Grafton, The Uki Church has been a part of my families life for as long as I can remember. Growing up in Uki Village, I was lucky enough to attend Uki Primary School and can recall many games played in the playground next to the church. Often incorporating the church into our stories and games. The community engagement the church creates in Uki village is phenomenal. I have attended many events in the church, my favorite always being music performances. The ...heritage listed building creates an unprecedented heavenly atmosphere, thanks to its beautiful architecture. Of course I remember the sounds of the acoustics, the incredible selection of homemade baked goods and catching up with close friends, neighbours and acquaintances. But what I remember most is harder to explain; it's a feeling of warmth, of community spirit and of belonging. The Uki Church brings people together. I moved away from the village in 2011 to pursue two university degrees and a career. In 2018, I returned to the village to be married to my now husband, Glen. It was the perfect day. The church was it's usual breathtaking self, its architecture creating an intimate and story-like setting. We were married by Reverend John Tyman on the 5th of May, surrounded by our closest family and friends. I consider myself incredibly lucky to have been married here, and even in hindsight, there is not a single thing I would have done differently. I sincerely hope Uki Church is saved. That it can continue to be a pillar for the community, bringing people together from all walks of life. Warmest regards, Katja. John Tyman: Uki ‘s Sacred Space at Holy Trinity Uki, has been slated for SALE according to a wider area Anglican re-structure. However, we are assured that, if we make a good case to the bishop by Feb 14th 2020, this decision might well be turned around. UKI, will you join with us, to HOLD THIS SPACE and help us retain a safe, sacred and spiritual home for the whole of our community. Holy Trinity Uki has a strong tradition of diversity and inclusion, safety and social justice. It is a place where the needs of the environment and of our indigenous peoples are powerfully upheld. For years it has opened its doors for the benefit of the whole community. In 1921 it was built by and for the community as a WW1 Memorial Church. For almost a hundred years it has been used for rites of passage like christenings, confirmations, weddings and funerals. It regularly reaches out for community-wide Armistice and Anzac commemorations. It is used for hosting concerts to encourage local musicians and to raise funds for refugees under the auspices of the Uki Refugee Project. Regular inter-faith services are held so that people of diverse faiths can share their values, hopes and dreams and forge positive connections. It functions as a safe space for those who struggle or are left out such as our Indigenous brothers and sisters, members of the LGBTQI community and people seeking to recover from addiction. It is sometimes used as a space for yoga and pilates classes. Its community has created the Uki Village Labyrinth that is open for meditation 24 hours every day and that is being used by young and old alike, including by our local schools for educational purposes. It is used for public and private meetings or as a practise space by the local primary school music department. It is able to provide art gallery space for use into the future by Uki artists. When threatened a number of years ago the local community ensured that this beautiful building was awarded heritage status. Keep Holy Trinity Church Uki open

05.01.2022 The Uki village labyrinth is now available 24/7 for Walking Meditation in solitude. In its garden setting behind the church its circular pathways and movement towards the rock at the centre and then out again can provide the type of calming support we can all do with at this time of Covid19's confusion and anxiety . We are asked to walk it IN SOLITUDE because the winding pathway takes more than one person at a time, too close to each other for them to maintain adequate social distancing. In interactive ZOOM CHURCH SERVICE is being held every Sunday at 9am (NB: this week as Daylight Saving changes 9am will be an hour later than usual). If you'd like to join in from your own home email: [email protected] for the link and security password. You'll need to download the Zoom ap onto your own device prior to joining the service. .

05.01.2022 We have to be patient. News of whether our community outpouring has been successful in saving the Holy Trinity Church won't be received until some time in June. Meanwhile the church building is closed for gatherings due to the Corona Virus emergency. But the Uki VIllage LABYRINTH at the back of the church is open 24/7 for walking meditation and you can be safely solitary as you walk. ... If you are interested in A VIRTUAL SERVICE text your email address to Bryan [email protected] He will send you an invitation and you can drop into a Zoom gathering any Sunday at 9am. This different kind of church service includes sharing, reading, singing, meditation and prayer. On Sunday it will be an interfaith experience and we will all hear and connect the faith journey of Simone Renton who follows the Hari Krishna pathway.

04.01.2022 A decision about the sale of Holy Trinity Uki should be made this month Our community had sent letters and petitions and we live in HOPE

At present the building of a new fence for the school means the labyrinth can best be accessed by walking to the right of the church rather than to the left.
