24.01.2022 There is nothing I enjoy more than seeing Nala and Denny (aka the HEAL herd) completely relaxed in their home paddock. I arrived early this afternoon to prepare for a client session and found my pride and joy chilling out before helping me to support Ms M. love, Love, LOVE our job.

23.01.2022 A great way for the HEAL herd and I to stay grounded, regulated, and connected is to "graze" together. I often offer to groom Nala & Denny or offer to walk alongside as they graze. Today Nala accepted my invitation to groom her. Denny politely said no thanks to grooming but was happy for me to walk alongside while he grazed.

22.01.2022 Nala and Denny are gold medal winners in staying regulated and grounded. When the COVID-19 situation makes me feel a bit unsettled I spend time with my HEAL herd. Just sitting in the paddock watching and listening to them graze slows my heart rate and clears my mind. From my herd to yours. Stay safe everyone.

21.01.2022 Ms A noticed a theme of music and rhythm during her experiences with the HEAL herd which included relaxing with Denny at the water trough and grazing with Nala. "My experience left me with a feeling of overall contentment within myself. What stood out for me personally was the connection that was developed with both horses over the session. Both horses have unique personalities and I would highly recommend this experience to anyone that has been thinking of using the HEAL program." HEAL images posted with our client's permission.

20.01.2022 Gentleness has been a frequent and much loved theme with our HEAL clients so I am reposting on the HEAL page. It dawned on me today that I have been practising gentleness the past two months. My body, my mind and my heart were telling me to go gently and I’ve been consciously and unconsciously doing just that. My favourite Charlie Mackesy print fits perfectly with this post. Ideally I would be doing final prep for our scheduled flight leaving tomorrow to Canada to visit my... family. The gentleness has crept in to my life in varied and surprising ways. I have been: listening to my body’s needs as I tolerate the meds for a prolonged bout of sinusitis. forgiving myself when I’ve had to cancel a few client sessions watching an episode or two of Heartland when sinus pain makes it too hard to concentrate to read my current book Untamed (Glennon Doyle). reflecting on the impact of Black Lives Matter/All Lives Matter and gently exploring my behaviours and patterns of thinking. Am I honouring my belief that all lives matter in tangible ways that might make a difference. writing in my Grateful Journal every evening releasing some guilt for not promoting my HEAL business lately spending quiet time with our old girl Cody and acknowledging her need for gentleness in her life as she approaches 14. feeling grateful that Milly and Mai continue to run and play with gusto and yet seem to understand that Cody needs to mooch around the yard at her own pace. asking for and receiving help with doing heavy jobs at the stables. increasing awareness of the worldwide impact of COVID pandemic and offering extra gentleness to my horses, our clients, to myself and our family reminding myself that relationships with our friends are strong and will endure any temporary gaps in communication allowing myself to feel sad that we can’t spend time with our family in Muskoka as planned planning to reschedule our trip to Canada same time next year daring to hope that we will all come out the far side of COVID stronger, wiser, and connected

19.01.2022 Yesterday Nala and Denny returned to the HEAL paddock after a two week break. Mr M enjoyed a wonderful session with Nala & Denny which eventually became a "boys day out". Denny invited and received a comprehensive grooming session from Mr M while sharing trust, respect, awareness, and a very cool masculine vibe.

15.01.2022 A few great ways to support ourselves during social distancing.

15.01.2022 Feathers I have noticed feathers for a long time. I picked them up as a kid fascinated how the vanes rejoined if you ran your fingers gently along the feather. I studied them using both light and electron microscopes in my scientist days, and I notice them as an adult occasionally picking up a select few. Feathers became especially poignant for me after my youngest sister lost her fight with brain cancer. I noticed I had an increased awareness of finding feathers on walks, o...n holidays, or in our own yard. Our HEAL clients have been noticing and collecting feathers they find in the paddock. Several of the feathers we’ve found are now tucked into the grass at the base of fence posts. Recently I noticed that horses have feathers too and I don’t mean Pegasus. The pattern of fur in front of a horses hind leg as it merges into the belly fur resembles a feather. Have a look at Nala & Denny’s feathers which became more prominent after a light drizzle of rain.

08.01.2022 Our community is currently experiencing another unexpected event with the associated fear and uncertainty regarding Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19). Many of us in the Shoalhaven are still recovering from the impact of recent drought, bushfires, and flooding. As an equine assisted learning practitioner, I am actively researching fact over fiction and awareness over reaction. Holistic Equine Assisted Learning (HEAL) is continuing to support our clients so we have implemented ex...tra safety precautions and even more robust hygiene processes based on information provided by World Health Organisation (WHO), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), as well as the Australian Government Department of Health recommendations. (https://www.health.gov.au) What specifically is HEAL doing to minimise the risks while we support our clients? - we facilitate outdoor experiences with the HEAL herd - there is plenty of room in the paddocks to maintain social distancing - Anne works with one client & one support worker at a time - Anne is the only person to touch, open, and close any gates or latches - sanitiser, wipes, and/or hand soap are provided - tissues are provided - clients are welcome to bring their own sanitiser & tissues - grooming brushes are cleaned after every session What can clients do to help ensure your HEAL session is as safe as possible? 1. Be open and honest in your communications with us about the following risks: * have you travelled overseas since 1Jan2020? * are you currently experiencing any flu-like or cold-like symptoms? * have you been instructed to self-isolate or self-quarantine? * have you had contact with anyone who has tested positive for Coronavirus Disease? 2. Contact Anne on 0421977129 to cancel our session if you are feeling unwell or unsafe (until further notice there will be NO cancellation fees) A warm thank you to my EPI trained colleagues who joined me online to share our ideas and suggestions for best practice during the Coronavirus Disease situation.

08.01.2022 Connection Connection is vital to our health, safety, and wellbeing. Here are some of the many ways we might feel connection: connection with people connection to our five senses ... connection with places spiritual connection connection with animals connection with nature connection with our bodies and an awareness of its capabilities and limitations. From my herd to yours we hope you are feeling connection today.

06.01.2022 There's a light in the night even when you can't see it A silver lining on the horizon Mae Valley My wonderful HEAL herd are two of our many silver linings!! What silver linings are you noticing? ... Send us a note or post a photo to tell us about your silver linings. See more

05.01.2022 Research shows that Edgar Dale’s original cone of experience may have been jazzed up a bit since 1946 but one thing is clear - learning by experience or learning by doing is a very powerful way to learn, develop, and retain new skills. Learning with the HEAL herd is 100% learning by experience. Horses support clients to learn a variety of life skills because they are incredibly sensitive to body language. Horses can detect the smallest inconsistency between our thoughts or feelings and our body language. Horses notice our body language and provide immediate, honest, and accurate feedback with zero judgement. Please contact us on [email protected] or 0421977129 to see if learning by experience (learning by doing) meets your learning goals.

04.01.2022 A big part of the work we do at HEAL is supporting our clients to regulate their own emotions, feel grounded, and be present. We support these skills by offering unique 1:1 experiences with our horses in nature. We recently discovered this nature pyramid while reading The Nature Fix by Florence Williams. The HEAL herd and I hope you are all able to get out in nature daily. ... If you’d like some support to be outside in nature, to feel grounded, feel present, or to be able to regulate your own emotions please contact us at [email protected]. From the HEAL herd to your herd, we hope you get to experience all that Mother Nature has to offer.

04.01.2022 Here I am "learning from experience" and connecting with a charming paint gelding named Ranger at a Tim Hayes clinic for EAL & EAP practitioners. The event was hosted by Eleni Argy from Sheez Like the Wind Equine Experiences. Rare opportunity for me to be with horses other than the HEAL herd and an even rarer chance to be on the other side of a camera. Thanks Eleni for taking a few pics.

01.01.2022 Late last week gentleness continued for our client Ms J. Ms J had a few poignant moments about gentleness to take home. J experienced gentleness with the HEAL herd by first sharing space with them. Ms J noticed that Denny offered gentleness and also needed to receive gentleness from both her and I. While Denny grazed next to her, J spoke softly about Denny’s big heart and his willingness to share his heart with all of us. The warmth and appreciation J has for Denny was tangible and brought a tear to our eyes. Later on Nala offered gentle connection by slowly walking towards J, standing with J, and gently shifting her body to invite J’s gentle touch. Gentleness was the perfect way to pause our client sessions and begin a 2 week holiday for the HEAL herd.
