20.01.2022 Rod & Holly at Mitchell Park Farm do a magnificent job with all the horses that come into their care, likewise with any person that is seeking a horse that is suited to them. Take a look at the newest horses looking for their human partnership #mitchellparkfarm

20.01.2022 The Mumma & her then unborn foal in the photo below would have been sent to slaughter. Yes, you read that correctly! Imagine this...... A mob of horses being lured into trapping yards, the smell of death pending, there are many of them. Stallions, Mares, Yearlings & Foals, some are pregnant. Fear is in the air, these horses do not understand what has just happened nor why they are caged in. The stallions are the protectors, yet they are unable to fight out this locked situ...ation they are in, many have been separated from their herds. The next day a truck comes , the rear door opens and the horses are forced to enter, the door closes behind them. This truck has a planned LONG road journey , they are heading to the slaughterhouse, where they will be killed. Their flesh is sometimes sent overseas for HUMAN CONSUMPTION, yes that is correct, humans do eat horse flesh and some is used for pet food. It's a vile money trade, horses like many animals are used as a commodity. Humans use the life of animals for financial gain. TRUTH!! Contractors are hired, they are paid to remove the Brumbies, some are sold and offered a home, some not so privileged, these contractors also get paid by the knackeries & slaughterhouses. Brumby rescue sanctuaries such as HOOFS2010 work dam hard every day to save as many Brumbies as they can. The dedication, the commitment and the tears makes this voluntary work available to the strongest of people, those who build up their inner resilience, yet at times, even they crumble and need support. This work is NOT for just any person, it takes a special kind to do this. Why? Because it hits you right at your very core. Imagine having to select only a few Brumbies full well knowing that all the others that you see are going to have their final journey in a truck then taking their last breath in a strange place that wreaks of blood, a place where the cries of other horses can be heard. This is the heart wrenching decision every rescuer makes when they go to pick up Brumbies. You may not be in a position in your life to be a Brumby rescuer but you are in a position to offer support. The kind of support that helps rescue sanctuaries that are not given any funding from the government because Brumbies are not considered wildlife in the eyes of those in political power. So please give generously, please share fundraising campaigns, please get on board and become a sponsor, please offer your time to help in any way that you can. Thank you for reading this post and thank you for donating to my Birthday Giving Fundraiser.

19.01.2022 In summer I hear see lots of posts from people saying their horse’s hooves are struggling with the dry weather or hard ground. In winter, the posts start saying... the problem is the wet weather and the mud causing the problem. Thing is hooves are pretty much weather proof. There will be some change to the hoof horn, but only a little. If the diet is good, then the hooves don’t struggle with weather changes. Maybe it’s time to stop blaming the weather which we have no control of and start looking at the internal environment of our horses, like their diet which we do have control of. 18.01.2022 Starvation diets really don't get a horse fit and healthy. Horses are trickle feeders. They need food in their gut. Starving is not healthy. We know this when ...it comes to human weight loss programs, but somehow it still seems to be common advice for weight loss in horses. All horse sense is thrown out of the window. An overweight horse is treated as if it has suddenly ceased to be a trickle feeder. Like fat is shameful and horses should be punished for it. They get locked up in solitary confinement, with hardly any food, and kept as cold as possible to make them shiver off that weight. If it’s not a weight loss plan you’d do yourself, or recommend to a friend, maybe it’s not a great weight loss plan. (or considering things like the ‘ice cream diet’ exist, maybe that’s a bad analogy but you get what I mean!) 16.01.2022 For the horse owner. Go hug your horse Someone probably loved a mare and carefully chose a sire. Someone devoted their life to a stallion they believed in.... Someone chose to help mares make babies for a living. Someone sat up all night for who knows how long to help your horse into the world and someone kissed that wet nose. Someone put on their first halter, picked up the first hoof, gave the first bath and tightened the first girth. It took a lot of hearts to carry your horse to you. They gave many moments of their lives, many breaths, many stomped toes and broken boards. Hug your horse for them. They did it believing in your horses future, so make it a good one. ~ author unknown

10.01.2022 The beauty, power, grace and the intrinsic nature of wild horses. The connection and the devotion they have with each other is what we can all learn and grow from. They do belong in our world, be it in the USA, Australia, or anywhere else in the world. Watch https://youtu.be/haA_CekaQ4E

07.01.2022 A horse have a highly developed sense which enables them to sense energy (chi). Their method of communication is subtle, spending time with horses to observe their communication is extraordinary. Horses share a similar limbic system to humans. https://health.howstuffworks.com//coping/horse-therapy.htm

05.01.2022 Trim Your Horse We put together a few key points for you to use or share with your trimmer to achieve a healthy barefoot trim. This will also help create a... nice secure fit for Scoot Boots Arch the wall through the widest part of the hoof. This reduces flare. Bevel the outer perimeter of the wall and toe. Bevelling the wall keeps the lower wall strong and prevents the white line from stretching. A bevelled toe ensures rapid breakover. Don't rasp the hoof wall flat. This is the most common cause of flare. Do not rasp the toe callus. This is the area of the sole between the tip of the frog and end of the toe. Rasping this area makes the horse instantly footsore. Every domesticated horse/pony should have its hooves barefoot trimmed every 4-5 weeks. When transitioning your horse from shod to barefoot don’t expect to achieve the above in one single trim - it can take time.
