25.01.2022 Did not realise the Burnett was backing up, so glad to see water in the Perry but lost a pump !!
24.01.2022 We are so stoked, our next stage happened today. If you know us, you will know that we work bloody hard for everything we have. What we have comes from us putting in the hard yards and that includes our kids who are expected to work and who also understand hard times. Some days are harder than others but none of us would change a thing, we love or life, our animals and our farm. Putting together a new set of yards has been on our wish list for many years and now we are ticking the boxes it is an amazing feat. Hard work does pay off :)
22.01.2022 Everyone has to be involved when the farrier comes

20.01.2022 Cannot wait for the day when we can look out and see greeness in our paddocks again.....One day closer to rain
17.01.2022 The last two days have been busy as we move into the next stage of trying to keep our cattle alive. On Saturday we bought the commercial cattle over to take calves off mums. We made the decision to include an old girl (Cath) who we bought over 10 years ago at one of our first cattle sales. She was poor when I bought her and even though I was nave enough to think I could put weight on her she always did poorly even in good conditions. We knew she would struggle with the wal...k but decided to bring her closer to home so we could hard feed her. Unfortunately she went down in the yards and did not get back up again :( the walk, the heat and her poor condition were just too much :(. We had another cow start calving as we walked them over and gave birth to a healthy little bull calf :) ! The highs and lows of farming. Even though our yards are not complete we bodgied them up enough to put cattle through and it actually seemed to work well with cattle going through easily. The crush worked well and we could see that once everything is completely set up we will have an efficient system. We put dry lick out and took all cattle back across the road, minus some of the older calves and two bulls. There is never a time when we take wieners/claves off mothers where there is not a dilemma. When we got up the next morning we discovered that a panel that we had bodgied up with baleing twine had come open and the claves were out. We managed to get seven back in but three made it back over to their mums ! After that we had to go down and move the pump, not far just up to the next tiny hole that should see us get one or two pumps out of it. As we worked the sky filled with clouds, two spots of rain fell from the sky that was all, no rain for us again today, but another day closer. See more
16.01.2022 Starting to come together :)
16.01.2022 Womens power kicking into action. Three of the daughters of the President of Zimbabwe and my two daughters who are working together to bring science, commonsen...se and holistic policy development to this nations agriculture. If they prevail we will be the first country in the world to begin seriously addressing both global desertification and climate change, and the first to begin producing more clean nutritious food than dead eroding soil. The best managed land in any nation should be its National Parks and below you can see what those look like at the very best time of the year, compared with nearby Dimbangombe managed holistically - same time same wildlife, same soils only difference management. @Sarah Savory #desertification #climate change #biodiversity See more
16.01.2022 Bringing everyone over to put on pour on, but that is a job for tomorrow :) So it is a stay over night on the house side :)
16.01.2022 Such a sad situation, Alan is our Holistic Farming guru and the founder of Holistic farming.

14.01.2022 Good to see this on the farm :)
14.01.2022 An afternoon on our farm
14.01.2022 To all the farmers out there who like us the drought never broke and the paddocks never recovered it is going to be a hard winter. Stay strong, maybe off load cattle now and talk to some one. There is always someone out there to listen and help and I would be the first to put my hand up. We are all in this together

12.01.2022 This is for our future reference as we trial some new methods to manage GRT
10.01.2022 This is not a post to get anyones sympathy this is a post to try and describe just how hard it is living on the land atm. It feels like every day our spirit breaks a little more. Trying to stay optimistic and positive is getting harder by the day. Every part of our environment is a reminder of just how dry it really is. The minute you open your eyes in the morning you look at the sky which means nothing of lately because even clouds in the sky means jack shit. Stepping o...Continue reading
10.01.2022 Moving cattle into a new paddock is a highlight of holistic farming :) Love how our Molly came back and lead others to the paddock
09.01.2022 Something we have wanted for so long. The next step for our farm is to have a new set of yards and this form work is where it all begins !! :)
09.01.2022 Times are tough but one thing that makes our day a little brighter is when we feed the animals :) One day closer to rain

06.01.2022 Wow when it is all about sustainability to is good
06.01.2022 One minute of your attention could save civilization as we know it. All scientists agree that no life can survive without suitable habitat. Globally, where c...ould we look at a litmus test, or look for dead canaries in order to warn humans of habitat destruction and desertification for all life? When we do look, all scientists know that the first thing we should look at is soil cover. If it is bare and exposed, everything is dying gradually. When soil is covered, then nature is amazingly forgiving. We cannot look to agricultural land or forests under management, etc, because many of them are deteriorating as a result of greed, corporate misbehavior, corruption, cattle emitting methane, mining, urban expansion, or some other reason. So, logically we would need to look at the one place where none of these things affect our environment - the places we have set aside to preserve our wilderness, purity of nature and abundant biodiversity, with a healthy habitat for so many life forms, including humans. With that in mind, lets take a minute to look at the national parks around where I live in Africa they are no different from national parks in the United States: found in similar climates that are under the same management thats practiced world-wide. As we see, bare soil dominates all our land under the very same management that is causing global desertification and climate change. Habitat for all life is being destroyed by one thing and one thing alone. Our management. From this video, you can clearly see that Dibangombe is land that is managed holistically: the land is dominated by covered soil and is green, following 16 poor seasons and this the driest in my life. This habitat is being regenerated for all life, including humans by simply managing holistically. All these videos are taken in the same area, at the same time, with the same climate, the same soils, the same wildlife and the same humans. But different management. This coming dry season is going to be beyond devastating for our wildlife, our people, their crops and their livestock. On our holistically managed land, this country wide devastation will not affect us. For all young people, this is a strong warning that the canaries are dying and it is time to get out of the mine fast! Time to wake up and insist that all management changes. See more
06.01.2022 Made the decision to bring all mums and bubs and registered into paddock near house and put commercials in river paddock. This way we can continue to hard feed but just not as many mouths to feed and gives the ones who need it most the hard feed without fighting for it with others. Send us some rain soon Huey.
03.01.2022 Some of the grasses that we have growing
02.01.2022 A lot like holistic farming
01.01.2022 As I wake in the morning I look at the sky to see what is on the horizon. My Nan taught me the saying, Red sky in the morning sailors warning, red sky at night sailors delight. Unfortunately no red skies in the mornings, just fog ! Which means one thing, a stinking hot day ahead ! The minute I hear the sound of black cockatoos I run to see how many are flying over hoping that is the amount of days rain coming. I hear a frog croak and think is that the sign I am looking... for? I walk in the paddock and all that I hear is the crunch of some dry grass or leaves under my feet. I look out to the horizon and all that I see is barren, dry land in some parts the grass has turned orange with the heat it is enduring. Holistic farming has made sure we are not completely out of feed yet, but we wonder how much longer we can hold on for. We could have destocked much earlier but who really knew it was going to be this dry for so long. We just got our commercial herd to a point we wanted and had worked so long to achieve and began our registered herd. We are about to open all gates on both sides of the road and let our babies eat what ever is left in the hope that this will get them through and lesson our financial burden. It is not holistic farming but nature has now forced our hand. We will give it a month and then we will wean all babies and bring them back to the house paddock. We did destock last month but the prices were so low. Now we just have to ride out this drought. We are not complaining we love our farm, our animals and our life but that is not saying it is not bloody hard. When you pour so much into your farm and you work off the farm to keep the farm you work bloody hard and it is emotionally and physically draining. We only own 400 acres, my heart breaks for all farmers especially anyone who has more and are doing it just as if not more tough. This is the worst we have seen it since buying over 10 years ago. I dont want anyone to be put in any danger but secretly praying for a cyclone to build and a low to form. One more day closer to rain. See more
