22.01.2022 Let us help you determine WHY your bubba is waking at night. Knowing why bubs is waking ensures you can respond appropriately. Sleeping environment, make sure the room isn’t too cold & you’re using white noise to block out external sounds that can disturb their sleep. Hunger, for bubba’s not yet established on solid foods, hunger is a genuine reason to be waking (however if bubs is waking 4,5 or 6 times this wouldn’t be hunger).... Over tired, if bubs hasn’t had enough day sleep this will cause them to be unsettled through the night & to wake frequently. Under tired, if bubs has had too much day sleep this can cause prolonged periods of waking at night. Settling skills, for a bubba over 3-4 months who hasn’t learnt to self settle this can cause them to wake between sleep cycles. Habit, bubba’s can develop habitual wakes when the behaviour has been reinforced. As you can see there are many factors as to why your bubba is waking at night. Use this as a check list to determine how you will respond to their waking. Is your bubba waking at night? Do you need help figuring out what kind of wake it is? Post your questions below

19.01.2022 Goodbye 2020 What a bloody year! It’s one that’s going to be talked about for a long long time. It hasn’t been all bad though.. Our crazy Casper was born ... As a family we have grown closer & were forced to slow down & spend more time together which was a blessing in disguise - we all loved having Paul work from home Well done to all you Mumma’s. You made it through a bizarre year. You are stronger than you ever thought you could be. It’s had its tough moments, some Mumma’s have been dragged through the absolute dirt this year (VIC Mums, you are rockstars) This wasn’t the year we had planned but we have made it through A big big thanks to you all for being an amazing support through this year. I love connecting with you all & I am excited for what 2021 has in store. We have a child free night tonight & are celebrating all that we achieved this year. We are so proud of ourselves - as a couple but mostly as parents See you in 2021 xx #whatthefuckwasthat2020
16.01.2022 Happy Valentine’s Day to the men in my life that fill my heart with so much happiness & love Paul, thank you for being such a bloody rockstar Husband & Daddy. My gosh we all ADORE you! I especially adore you right now. We had plans to have a nice dinner together tonight & watch a movie. However, this afternoon whilst we took the boys to the park, I all of a sudden started projectile vomiting into the bushes ... Without batting an eye lid, you scooped the boys up into the car, organised their dinner, gave them a bath & put them to bed all whilst I’m moaning like a whale in the shower bringing up everything I have eaten this past week. You are amazing & I am so appreciative of you - especially right now haha. Love you
15.01.2022 It’s such a crazy time of year, you really don’t know what day of the week it is between Christmas & New Year’s Eve There’s no routine, no plans or sometimes too many plans! Haha. We always encourage parents to relax as much as they can, don’t stress about where or how their bubba is sleeping - some sleep is better than no sleep ... Our boys were out of whack on Christmas Day. Firstly they had a slightly later bedtime on Christmas Eve because we went out for dinner. Christmas Day, Casper had his morning nap in the car, we came home for the afternoon so both boys could have a big sleep in preparation for Christmas night. Casper had another later bedtime & slept in a spare room at Paul’s Aunty & Uncles house. Otis didn’t go to bed until we got home at 11pm He was so dosed up on chocolate he was fine though haha. We had to wake Casper to leave but he settled back to sleep fine once we got home after a breastfeed. The next day we had a slow day at home so they could rest which meant they bounced back fine There are ways you can navigate things so that not only are the kids getting the sleep they need but you as an adult aren’t missing out on special events such as Christmas Changing the way you do things for a day or two won’t undo any hard work you have put in as long as you do get back on track. Casper doesn’t feed through the night anymore however I did it after waking him for the drive home because I knew he would then settle off the sleep so much easier. How did you go navigating your bubba or toddlers sleep over Christmas? Did you find it easy or stressful?
12.01.2022 I had one of those parenting moments yesterday when I thought I am so glad that wasn’t me Poor Paul, regretting the decision to be the one to get Casper out of the car haha. Have you had a parenting moment where you were thankful it wasn’t you?
11.01.2022 COMFORTERS We love comforters here at Holistic Sleep Mumma. When introducing a comforter, please note they are only recommended to be introduced once your bubba is 7 months of age (as per Red nose guidelines).... A favourite toy can work wonders for separation anxiety & self-settling. Separation anxiety can be quite intense with some bubba’s so when there is a comforter in the picture it can help them from becoming overwhelmed with their new feelings. Having a spare will help you when you need to wash the comforter or if you misplace it - this happens a lot! Haha. When choosing a comforter you need to look for a few things, ensure it is made from a washable fabric that is breathable such as cotton, bamboo or muslin. It should have NO buttons, ribbon or string attached. No music or rattles attached. Not too small but not too big either. It doesn’t need to be anything fancy it could be something from Kmart that cost $8! Does your bubba have a comforter? Ps, thank you to the Mumma’s who sent in photos of their bubba’s with their comforters. They all look soooo cute. Any guesses who the first & last little boys are?
09.01.2022 Anyone else feeling uninspired when it comes to making dinner? Some weeks I’m whipping up amazing meals & others it’s all about fish fingers or toast So, let’s help each other out! Comment below what you made the kids for dinner, this way other Mumma’s can become inspired by what you cooked tonight ... Tonight, I served lentil & chickpea Dahl with avocado slices & watermelon. Casper ate it all, Otis ate the watermelon Okay, your turn! #mumssupportingmums
05.01.2022 Just when you feel like you have your bubba’s sleep under control BAM, in comes standing It’s cute at first, you feel proud they’ve hit another milestone, but soon enough the novelty wears off because now bub thinks it’s a game or can’t figure out how to lay back down The way you respond to this behaviour is really important. It can very quickly turn into a game which means - goodbye nap time.... Don’t race in as soon as bub stands, give them an opportunity to lay back down. When & if you do need to go in, keep this interaction simple, remind them it’s sleep time & lay back down before exiting the room. If you start talking upon entering, laugh or get them up from their nap then this only turns this behaviour into a stalling tactic. Lastly, give them plenty of opportunity during the day to practice standing & sitting back down. This may not stop them from doing it at bedtime but it’ll encourage bubs to lay back down if they do stand up. Did you struggle with this milestone? Otis took a few days to get over this fun new skill & Casper still loves to test the waters every now & then by standing & throwing his mousie out of the cot
