15.01.2022 On this day in 1616, Dirk Hartog became the first European to set foot on the shores of Western Australia, and only the second to record encountering the Austra...lian continent. Landing on a rugged offshore island (now known as Dirk Hartog Island), he left a pewter plate describing his ship’s arrival and voyage. Read more: bit.ly/2NIWn1V Dirk Hartog plate. 13.01.2022 Support Touch of Dutch in Berwick. Order on line. They have a great range of Dutch products. We have owned our family business in Berwick for over 10 years and have watched how trade in local centres such as Berwick has slowly declined for various reasons. We have been lucky enough at @atouchofdutch in Berwick to allowed to be open but due to the 5km rule decided to keep only our grocery store open (we do have an online store too) and close our cafe. As you can imagine, sale...s have decreased significantly and there are days that not enough has been made to cover the outgoings. This time of the year is when Christmas trade keeps our store and the unique shops around us alive. Please support your local businesses as much as you can rather than shopping at the big giants. Buy from small, family owned or local businesses as much as possible. We continue to take online and phone orders to post out throughout Australia. I’m proud of Harry and the Berwick community for taking a stand! We’ve been dealt so much to overcome already! Enough is enough! #supportsmallbusiness
