Crowd-sourced funding (CSF) can be used by start-up and small to medium sized businesses to seek to raise funds from a potentially large target investor base to support the growth of the business and its services or products. In the past, CSF services have not been specifically regulated in Australia, which has restricted the growth of this industry. ... However, from 29 September 2017, CSF services for raising equity capital will be regulated under a new regime and entities providing CSF services as an intermediary must hold an Australian Financial Services Licence (AFSL) issued by ASIC.
