14.01.2022 Transition to parenthood The idea of becoming a parent, can be full of mixed emotions. The anticipation of changes which lie ahead, and how you are going to navigate these can be overwhelming. Relationships can change during pregnancy, including those with partners, family, friends and work colleagues. Some relationships might strengthen, others weaken, others evolve and become something new, while others fall away completely. Sometimes these changes can cause stress or a...nxiety. Having mixed emotions and experiencing complex changes is normal. However, it can also be confusing and scary. Remember to be gentle on yourself. Not only are you getting to know your new arrival, in your newborn baby, but you are also getting to know yourself as a newborn parent. As expecting parents, being prepared for these changes and being open to talking about feelings and facing them head on can help you navigate your transition to parenthood. If you are interested in learning more about how Occupational Therapy can help you on your transition to parenthood - please let me know. You are also invited to come along to our workshop - Nurture your Pelvic Floor, which I'm co-faciliating with Amy Lamb from Control Physiotherapy. Not only will we be discussing the ways your can manage the physical impacts of changes to your pelvic floor, but helping you consider your options for planning your recovery post partum. Tickets are available at www.hollieswanton.com/signup
