25.01.2022 Spending all day trying all the different ways to design a kick drum on the 707. Bwain fied
24.01.2022 Yeah I am really diggin’ the MC-707 and then I found out about the Fantom! That is some serious kit!
23.01.2022 Decksavers - saving gear from sleeping cats was not probably part of the original design scope...but they work!
23.01.2022 Sketch 4 on the way. #livetechno #mc707 #roland #dubtechno
22.01.2022 Sketch 3 complete and ready for recording Live #livetechno #mc707 #groovebox
22.01.2022 A quick teaser for Sketches #4
21.01.2022 Track 4 from my 2020 Live Set that I am writing. This one has a custom Kick Drum that I designed with the 707 and I also got more creative with some of the drum track parts. That vocal sample is not actually a vocal.
16.01.2022 Sketch #3 is 95% done. Just letting it simmer for a bit and will check it out and polish some of the motion sequencing. This sketch has been about diving deeper into the Zen-core Synth engine and playing around with the motion sequence capabilities. I keep finding all sorts of possibilities and I am constantly impressed by how DAW-like the 707 behaves. Having a parametric EQ available for each individual sound is mind-blowing. Combined with a bunch of compressors and a heap of crazy affects just make it such a capable instrument
15.01.2022 I wanted to record this track again because I have learnt so much about getting a better sound out of the Roland MC-707. This sounds a lot better than the previous sketch and is a good comparison.
15.01.2022 So it turns out that each of the 707 are more than capable of being one song in its own right. So I set up as follows; Track 1 - DrumComp engine with 16 parts. This is basically the same as an Electribe 2 on steroids & without the voice issues Track 2 - Synth (Basslines). Track 3 - Looper track with custom loops I make on the iPad and dumped as samples into the 707.... Track 4 - Synth Track 5 - Synth Track 6 - Synth Track 7 - Synth Track 8 - Synth Each Synth track is like having a full keyboard in its own right with incredible amounts of possibilities available. It’s a very deep rabbit hole This is plenty for making a track on just one 707. So now I will design the performance characteristics so that I have a mix of fixed and freehand techniques used to play a song in a Live situation. The more I play with the 707 the more I realise that I underestimated its power
15.01.2022 So now I am wondering how I want to set up my new rig. Each 707 is a complete song in its own right, or One 707 handles Drums & Bass while the other 707 is for Synth parts. So 2 x 707 for one song.... So many possibilities I am leaning towards having 2 x 707 to make up the one song. I will do an experiment over the next few days and see what feels best.
14.01.2022 Finished my 2nd track on the 707 today. Last night I had a guest in the studio. He sleep on my setup every night I will record up a sketch and share next few days.
14.01.2022 Had a request to post a quick demo of a kick drum design that I am working on at the moment. Made up of 2 parts on the MC707. The Drum Comp track supplies the transient which is a built in sound (Synth Kick 1) with some EQ, some instrument sound modeling, which is quite complex and top secret and Compression added. The Tone track is the body of the kick which is a modified preset called Dark Sub (of course I was going to use that). It has some modeling done and some EQ and compression. The secret was the ADSR for this one.
14.01.2022 Album finally landed. Also on Apple Music and Google Play....as well at most other platforms, some of which I didn’t know existed
13.01.2022 Surfin’ waveforms on the couch with the #mc707 writing sketch 5 #deeptechno #techno
09.01.2022 Designing custom kick drums on the #mc707 is such an awesome adventure! #livetechno #groovebox
07.01.2022 Distrokid is so easy Set for release on May 22
06.01.2022 Sorry I have been missing. I am working on some stuff, some new stuff...something big! Stay tuned
04.01.2022 Track 3 from my latest live set that i am writing for 2020. Made and played 100% Live using the Roland MC-707.
02.01.2022 Sketch #3 is well under way. Making my own sounds in the synth engine is amazing Been digging deep into more of the sonic possibilities of the 707. I also discovered a few secrets. Oh! and I much prefer doing keys on the pads I promise I will record Sketch #2 before the week is out. I wanted to apply a few tweaks to this track during the course of my recent discoveries.
