20.01.2022 ...and what a productive way to end 2019. Holroyd had two teams out today attending to five calls for assistance, following what we are led to believe were two seperate micro tornados. One in Greystanes, the other in Wentworthville. Once completed the teams were sent to Greystanes to assist with evacuations and road blocks in Greystanes; this as a result of a brush fire. ... We now wish all our followers a safe and enjoyable New Year.

19.01.2022 An example of two equally vital Services working together to make it happen.

08.01.2022 Since our last posting the team at Holroyd have continued battling the effects of the spate of storms which affected many of our fellow community members within the area we directly assist; then on top of this, assisting within other areas outside the old Holroyd footprint. Since the 8th February, and discounting the 80 requests for assistance we received since Australia Day, the team here at Holroyd attended to an additional 199 calls for assistance. These ranged from local ...flooding and roof damage; and then with the ground so wet...a large number of down or threatening trees. The call for action was made, and was responded to with gusto...a growing Holroyd able to field up to four teams into the field. Though hot from the humidity, wet from the drenching rains, there was only one focus - that of getting on a truck and doing ones all in an attempt to lessen the anguish of those affected. Now upwards of 60 member strong, Holroyd will soon induct another 20 new members; people from within our community able to, and willing, to volunteer their time to go out of their way to assist in times of need. Why do we do it? A very hard question indeed; as Unit Commander I can only think that it's what ones heart tells one to do...so hard to quantify. Is there a place for me in this team? Indeed, Holroyd, as with other NSW SES Units, welcome all comers; those willing to go out of their way to assist in such times. Simply the #OneTeam making it happen. Anyone interested in a volunteer career within the SES, and not necessarily Holroyd, can simply navigate to the following site and read up on where YOU can fit in. https://www.ses.nsw.gov.au/get-involved/volunteer/ On receipt of your application we will invite you to an information night where we delve into not only what we do, but how we get there; what training is provided. We also speak to the assistance the NSW SES provides to our sister Service (the RFS, Fire and Rescue and NSW Police). But there's more....albeit you will need to come along to a meeting. Some pics gathered during the latest event...

08.01.2022 A busy three days for the team at Holroyd. Tuesday saw two teams attend a number of roof damage tasks (following the strong winds that struck the area mid morning); this before being called to assist with road closures and evacuations at Greystanes and Pemulwuy. Yesterday we saw four teams assist again at Pemulwuy following a flair up of the grass fires of the previous day; tasks included road closures and the felling of a number of trees damaged by the fires, and which the...n posed a danger to the surrounding area. Tonight we see a Holroyd team join other NSW SES volunteers from Menai, Parramatta, Sydney City and Ryde as a chainsaw Task Force now travelling to the South coast to work through the night to clear blocked roads. Other teams, such as our sister unit Auburn are now on standby to relieve this first strike team tomorrow; this to continue the effort to clear the roads allowing people to leave the area. #TheWorstInNatureTheBestInUs #OneSES #NSWFires

07.01.2022 Apologies to all our followers in regards to not keeping you all abreast of the current situation; excuse the pun, but the situation has been quite fluid (and equally demanding). Suffice to say that NSW SES Holroyd, along with all other Units within Sydney Metropolitan area has been responding to the severe weather conditions moving down the east coast since Friday. This weather has bought heavy rain in most areas of the Sydney metropolitan area which is forecast to continue ...for the next couple of days. In regards to the Holroyd area, the team has to date received 83 calls for assistance since Friday (45 of these received today). At time of writing the team here has some 37 requests for assistance outstanding. During this period we have had all out teams active, and we are doing our best to get to all requests as soon as humanly possible. The majority of tasks have related to water inundation (be it by overland flooding caused by blocked drains, leaking roofs, blocked gutters, and today - and with the wind - trees down or threatening). As noted, we have a number of trees down around the area; these having collapsed due to the combination of high winds and wet ground. If possible, and until this event is over, it is advisable for all to ensure one does not park you vehicles under any large tree. Noting that it will take most of today and tonight to get through the majority of the these requests, we ask for your patience as the volunteers here at Holroyd toil through some of the worst conditions experienced of late. An update will be provided later in the day.... Regards Ray Gatt Unit Commander NSW State Emergency Service Holroyd
