Thirty-three progeny (15 females, 14 classified 9 VG, 5 GP); 40 grand progeny (28 females, 2 classified 1 VG, 1 GP). A strong contender in the ring, (2018 IDW Holstein Champion & Grand Champion, 2018 Reserve All Australian Mature Cow and IDW winner taking out 1st place in the 1st 4 Year...s in Milk category as well as Reserve Holstein Champion & Supreme Udder in 2015) owners Steven and Deanne Hore say: Jessica 11 has really helped promote the Aussie bred Jessica family with her show winning achievements and has put our Jessica cow family in the spotlight, continuing the strong cow family traditions. Her progeny are doing well with Solomon Jessica 5th ET VG87 winning the interbreed intermediate champion at IDW this year. Jessica 11 has 14 daughters in milk and all have high classifications. We believe she is going to be a great brood cow at Elmar. Our Judge comments: Another worthy finalist from the remarkable Jessica family that continues to produce a tremendous line of cows with high production, great classification and always catching the judge’s eye. 18.01.2022 And the winners are Winning the Senior Yearling Dry (over 15 months) class of the Semex-HA All-Australian Photographic Comp was a heifer that followed the mould of the champion heifers before her. She was ultra-dairy, oozed style and showed hardness through her top, a lot of depth to her rib and had a more correct set to her legs. In placing the champion over the reserve, the judges gave a distinct advantage in femininity and cleanliness of bone. They found the reserve heifer to have more overall depth of rib and particularly more flank than the honourable mention heifer. 16.01.2022 Australia's newest event for Holstein breeders, the inaugural Victorian Spring Show due to take place mid-September, has been cancelled, but will be back in September 2021. In the same week one of Australia's longest running shows, the 144th Shepparton Show was also cancelled for this year (for only the second time in its history), both due to the stage 3 restrictions in regional Victoria. 16.01.2022 This Wednesday sees the complete milking herd dispersal of Master Breeders Jon and Nadine Holland’s Holloddon Holsteins. Among the 180 Holsteins offered are twenty-six with records above 10,000 litres, ten over 11,000, five over 12,000 and one above 13,000 with twenty-three over 400 kgs fat. There are daughters of cows with lifetime records up to 136,415 litres and a 9,788 kgs solids, seven lots sell from dams that have reached the 100,000 litres. Eight cows selling are clas...sified EX, fifty-eight VG. Thirty are tested A2A2 and seven Red Holsteins are also selling. 09.01.2022 COVID-19 update: 2020 Semex Holstein Australia On-Farm Competition In light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic Semex Australia and Holstein Australia have jointly taken the decision to cancel this year’s Semex Holstein Australia On-Farm Competition. Holstein Australia CEO, Rohan Butler, says the decision was reluctantly reached following discussion with Semex Australia and consultation with the Holstein Australia board.... This has been a difficult decision, but one ultimately taken in the best interest for the safety of members and all those involved in organising and running this event throughout the country. With each state implementing different cross-border requirements and restrictions on movement and social gatherings within each state, it is not possible logistically to organise a national on-farm event. There are also the very obvious health and safety factors to consider with guidelines, recommendations and enforceable laws the subject of constant change as the situation within Australia continues to evolve. Both Semex and Holstein Australia are aware of the importance of this event - celebrating its 20th year this year - to our Sub-Branches and the Holstein community. We are already planning for 2021 when the On-Farm Competition will be back to celebrate it’s 21st, says Rohan. Semex Australia General Manager, David Mayo, says the health and safety of participants, judges and the staff involved in what is the southern hemispheres largest dairy livestock judging competition must come first. With the rapidly changing COVID-19 situation in Australia it is impossible to predict where we will be next week or next month at the moment. Cancelling the 2020 On-Farm Competition, which I know will disappoint many, is the responsible course of action. As with so many other dairy events and shows, Semex remains committed to the competition and we will be back as soon as it is safe and practicable to hold a national event that brings together hundreds of Holstein Australia members from all our dairy producing states, says David. Former Federal President and guest breeder judge this year, David Johnston, Segenhoe Park Holsteins, gives his take on the significance of this award. The Cow of the Year has a lot to prove longevity, worthwhile to dairy herd in terms of production, breeding, offspring and how these cows perform it’s the whole package. It also says a lot about the skills of the breeders. If you look back over the years in almost every ...case the breeder of the Cow of the Year is renowned for animal husbandry. The people working with them have got to have the skills to develop them, make the most of them over the years. This year we had a line-up like I don’t think I’ve seen before. The three finalists challenged each other all the way. Just an incredible standard and very rare to get three cows so close in almost every way. They are a real credit to all the people responsible for the management of these animals, particularly where longevity and production are concerned. 02.01.2022 Full sale report from the Gorbro Holsteins Golden Opportunity Sale, and what a sale it was for the Gordon family Master Breeder herd. According to Flanagan Marketing Services Lawrie Flanagan it was Australia's highest averaging dairy sale of the year. The sale kicked off to an excellent start; the first 12 lots grossed $132,250 and averaged $11,020. Topping the sale at $22,500 was Gorbro Crushabull Jessica ET who was bought by a syndicate of Rockstar Holsteins in NSW and Week...sdale Holsteins in Ontario, Canada. The fifty-seven heifers and cows on offer grossed $427,750 with the sale averaging an outstanding $7,504. Here she is in all her glory - Australia’s highest pointed cow, Supreme Champion Cow IDW 2011 and 2014 and On-Farm Comp winner amongst her many accolades. Congrats to all at Linsand Farms and of course Fairvale Holsteins. Second and third were close - very close - just two votes between them. Runner up was Australia’s second ever EX95 cow and Senior Champion Cow ...IDW 2016, Windy Vale Contender Rose-ET, chased hard by High Green Bolton Noni-ET, Royal Adelaide and Royal Melbourne 6 yr in milk winner 2012, Grand Champion All-Breeds National Youth Show IDW 2015, who took the final placing this week.
