24.01.2022 In 2017, new laws with tougher penalties came into effect. The maximum penalty doubled for failing to keep employee records or issue pay slips. The maximum... penalty tripled for knowingly making or keeping false or misleading employee records. A reverse onus of proof can now apply, meaning that employers who dont meet record-keeping or pay slip obligations and cant give a reasonable excuse will need to disprove allegations of underpayments made in a court. 17.01.2022 Base rates of pay will increase by 3.5%. The Fair Work Commission has announced a 3.5% increase to award wages and the national minimum wage. The increase takes... effect from the first full pay period that starts on or after 1 July 2018. The new national minimum wage will be $719.20 (up from $694.90) per week or $18.93 per hour (up from $18.29). It usually takes the Commission 2-3 weeks to update the pay rates in each award. Here are our top five tips for staying safe this tax time: Know what to protect.
