24.01.2022 WHAT YOU DON’T KNOW It has been suggested when we opened a hospitality venue during Covid-19 that we were foolish and idiotic. What you don’t know is, we are neither, long before the advent of Covid-19 we had been committed financially to these business ventures. This included the purchase of commercial property and assets, some of which which unfortunately settled 48 hours priors to the major lockdown. What you don’t know is, we were not committed early enough to be eligible... for or receive a government grant, payment, subsidy, off set or incentive. Through Covid-19 lockdowns we didn’t trade a single day and survived on a single wage and used our hard earned savings to service as many bills, loans and mortgages as we could and try and open a hospitality business in the future. What you don’t know is, we had no choice but to go on. Since opening our doors we have received much early support from the local community, however we have also been on the nasty receiving end of things. What you do is know is, we have heard you say publicly that we are idiots for opening a business now and we are going to fail. Since you clearly don’t know who we are, you have said those things in ear and eyeshot of us. What you don’t know is, by saying such things you are putting a wrecking ball to our business when we have barley got going (if you are so certain of our failure don’t give us a head start, let us fail on our own). What you don’t know is, that the words you speak are personally damaging, especially when everything is going wrong but you drag yourself out of bed everyday and try and make a go of a bad situation. In the almost 10 weeks we have been operating, we have had people from a large booking walk out and not pay their share of a bill (to those that call back fixed their bill thank you). We have had a large booking for half the restaurant not turn up and were uncontactable and that we turned other bookings away to accomodate them. What you don’t know is, we have created new jobs by opening this business and on large days we have extra staff getting more hours and we have purchased extra stock from local suppliers. What you don’t know is, that every cent of cash flow matters right now. What you don’t know is, that as the business owner I work 80 plus hours every week, barely see my family, barely sleep because of stress and never receive a cent personally. To every customer that has supported us, to every person that has commented and shared positive stories about our business thank you. What you don’t know is, it means the world to us, it gives us hope and ensures we continue trading. What you don’t know is, there is a very human side to business, it is not just a livelihood. What you should know is, if you don’t support small businesses they will disappear, the people they employ will be jobless and the money businesses spend in their community stops. #homagetas #supportlocalbusiness #supportsmallbusiness #getvocalbuylocal
