25.01.2022 THIS IS A DISASTER The Morrison government has tabled a bill in Parliament that will let them wash their hands of protecting our environment. We are in an extinction crisis. We must protect nature.

20.01.2022 Cape York 2020 Wow what a trip, it’s been amazing & beautiful mixid with rugged & even brutal at times but still so worth the effort to make this trip of a... lifetime From the stunning Weipa sunsets to the long red dirt roads with endless corrugations From the challenging & sometimes brutal Old Tele Track to the spectacular blue waters of Thursday Island & of course the aim of the trip to stand at the northern most part of the mainland (The Tip) Along the way we have met some really great people & had one hell of an experience The Cape is not easy but it is so very worth it

13.01.2022 Reminder to PUT OUT CAMP FIRES PROPERLY!!! Luckily our local pig controllers/hunters just let me know there was a camp fire unattended on our dry creek bed. It was directly downwind of dry scrub bordering rainforest which is drier than normal due to the season!!! Even though there are no fire bans, common sense should prevail! Campers need to put out fires by burying with damp soil or with buckets of water... ... If the wind had picked up it would be an unnecessary burden on the rural fire brigade and a real shame to burn bush for no reason!!! Check out QFES camping info sheets for advice... Fires out = happy days https://www.qfes.qld.gov.au/community-//Pages/Camping.aspx https://www.google.com/imgres

12.01.2022 Mist on the dams.. Absolutely beautiful morning sight.. Birdsong, gentle breeze...

11.01.2022 Paronella Park What an amazing place this was, so rich in history & so beautiful to see We did both a day time history tour & the night time light sho...w & would highly recommend both. Built in the 1930’s by Jose Paronella this place would have been so far ahead of its time With castles, a grand ball room & it’s own hydro electric power supply all built by Jose & his family. Do yourself a favour if you are travelling this way & stay for a night in the campground this way you can take the time to really enjoy the story of Jose & the beauty of Paronella Park we went back in 3 times It’s a credit to the current owners Mark & Judy Evans & all the wonderful staff that take such pride in their work & the story of Paronella Park Our guide Danny was awesome

09.01.2022 Who are these rainforest locals? While we look as smooth as velvet, we spit sticky slime to capture prey and have an odd way of courting. #WetTropics #WorldHeritage #rainforest #AcceptActAdapt

08.01.2022 Only 4 weeks left before we close the doors. Things are quieting down, so this morning we decided to take a little drive and go for a paddle at Crocodile Spring... before breakfast. The weather is overcast again and both the land and wildlife appear to be grateful for the drizzle we got yesterday. In a 2-hour period, we saw so much wildlife, it reminds us why we love this time of the year so much (and why it is worth getting up early!): Brolgas, Sea Eagle, Kites, Azur King Fisher, Dingoes, butterflies, frogs and lizards, native bees, wild pigs, Bush Bustards and even a family of Emus! And all that within a few minutes from the homestead Ironically, even though we were at crocodile Spring, we did not see any crocodile! Have a good weekend everyone!

07.01.2022 Beautiful beginnings of Spring...

07.01.2022 Huge thanks to Cape York Weeds and Feral Animals Inc for coming out to Homerule again today. We are in the middle of creating a Weed Management Plan with the help of Trevor and his team. I am doing Cert 3 in Conservation and Land Management and boy is there a lot to learn! We have begun battling weed infestations around the perimeter of the clearings especially around the areas where the ground is disturbed by pigs and human traffic due to intensive camping which mainly oc...curs during our large events/festivals. People are one of the biggest movers of weed seed, and by clearing the land in the past, introducing stock back in the grazing days and more recently having 1000's of visitors here a year, we have unintentionally created the perfect environment for invasive plants and weeds to take hold. The weeds can change the land from being healthy rainforest to depleted drier weeds sanctuaries.. not a great outcome for Wet Tropics properties bordering on such pristine rainforest.. A bit of planning and a few years of hard work and we will have made a difference.. Goodbye singapore daisy, knobby weed, lantana and sensitive weed!!!! just to name a few... Again Thanks to the guys at Cape York Weeds and Feral Animals Inc for your time and assistance! #capeyorkweedsandferalanimalsinc #homerulerehab See more

06.01.2022 This week’s #rainforest perspective looks up through the forest canopy. Just as a tree grows in a space created by another that has fallen, it’s a reminder of the tenacity of nature to grow into new opportunities and reach full potential #wettropics #worldheritage
