14.01.2022 Reminder to PUT OUT CAMP FIRES PROPERLY!!! Luckily our local pig controllers/hunters just let me know there was a camp fire unattended on our dry creek bed. It was directly downwind of dry scrub bordering rainforest which is drier than normal due to the season!!! Even though there are no fire bans, common sense should prevail! Campers need to put out fires by burying with damp soil or with buckets of water... ... If the wind had picked up it would be an unnecessary burden on the rural fire brigade and a real shame to burn bush for no reason!!! Check out QFES camping info sheets for advice... Fires out = happy days https://www.qfes.qld.gov.au/community-//Pages/Camping.aspx https://www.google.com/imgres

06.01.2022 Huge thanks to Cape York Weeds and Feral Animals Inc for coming out to Homerule again today. We are in the middle of creating a Weed Management Plan with the help of Trevor and his team. I am doing Cert 3 in Conservation and Land Management and boy is there a lot to learn! We have begun battling weed infestations around the perimeter of the clearings especially around the areas where the ground is disturbed by pigs and human traffic due to intensive camping which mainly oc...curs during our large events/festivals. People are one of the biggest movers of weed seed, and by clearing the land in the past, introducing stock back in the grazing days and more recently having 1000's of visitors here a year, we have unintentionally created the perfect environment for invasive plants and weeds to take hold. The weeds can change the land from being healthy rainforest to depleted drier weeds sanctuaries.. not a great outcome for Wet Tropics properties bordering on such pristine rainforest.. A bit of planning and a few years of hard work and we will have made a difference.. Goodbye singapore daisy, knobby weed, lantana and sensitive weed!!!! just to name a few... Again Thanks to the guys at Cape York Weeds and Feral Animals Inc for your time and assistance! #capeyorkweedsandferalanimalsinc #homerulerehab See more

01.01.2022 Wednesday is Friends’ Day. Show us your favourite place in the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area and let’s share the joy of this remarkable place. Pristine creek...s and mist covered mountains are a key feature of the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area. This magical morning moment was captured by Rueben Nutt in the Mount Lewis National Park.
