Please take the time to read through our latest policies introduced to reduce the risk of spread of Covid-19. If you are experiencing any symptoms of illness, have recently travelled or have been advised to self-isolate, please inform our staff at the time of booking. From Monday March 23rd we will ask that clients check in from outside the clinic. Please phone us from your car when you arrive at the clinic. Call 92430688 or 0419968337 and our nurses will advise you how we will collect your pet for examination. We will now ask the majority of our clients to safely remain in their car and we will talk to you over the phone while we examine your pet inside the clinic. If you experience issues with your phone please knock on the door to alert us that you have arrived. We will be bringing your dogs into the clinic on our own leads. Cats will be brought into the clinic in the carrier in which they arrived. We will be accepting card payments only. If you are asked to enter the clinic please use sanitiser provided on entry and exit. Please keep 2m from our staff members at all times unless instructed otherwise. If your pet has been admitted for a procedure, please settle the account over the phone before we bring your pet back outside to discuss their post-operative care. If your pet requires food or medication please phone us in advance so that we can organise your request and payment before collection. If you are unable to leave your home please discuss with our staff over the phone so that we can organise home delivery. We will still be operating home visits however we will be asking that dogs are examined outdoors, in the shade and restrained on the lead before arrival of the vet. We will discuss options for feline patients on a case by case basis. Once again, we thank you for your co-operation as we work together to keep the community safe. Kind regards, Your Team at Marmion Vet Centre.

05.01.2022 Muzzle Training . This is a video of Bailey who came to see nurse Cassie for a Fear Free consult on Saturday. Bailey is fearful of and at vets and so Cassie is working to help him with muzzle training . Dogs are very clever and quickly learn to associate cues with experiences... . If every time a patient wears a muzzle they experience something unpleasant, they will soon recognise the muzzle as a warning sign of bad things to comeThe muzzle itself can then trigger fear . Cassie is creating a positive food association with the muzzle. There is peanut butter in the muzzle and when Bailey puts his nose into the muzzle (even briefly) Cassie is rewarding him with an additional treat . After multiple sessions, the muzzle straps will eventually be briefly clipped behind the neck. The muzzle is then immediately removed followed by more rewards. This is done repeatedly until the period spent with the muzzle on can be extended . If a patient is appropriately muzzle trained, it allows a vet to complete a more thorough exam with an anxious dog and can avoid the need for sedation drugs . We are super proud of the progress Cassie and Bailey are making : well done . #positivereinforcement #muzzletraining #growth See more
