24.01.2022 Some people would say we've saved the best till last! Others might say we've taken a lovely restful break and taken time away from social media. And both are true!! Today's team member is Beth, our Studio Coordinator / integral spoke in the wheel of Homeful and Designful, she keeps us all rolling along smoothly. She's been with us for just over 1 year, but it feels like so much longer! Where would we be without her!? On a spokeless bike, that's where. Beth hopes Homeful can h...elp ease the current housing-affordability crisis, by facilitating more creative use of space. I foresee land-sharing becoming much more commonplace. I hope that with Homeful we can help people see the potential of their backyard, or their block of land, in a creative and interesting way. I hope we can stop looking at these spaces capitalistically (how much money can I make from this?!), and more holistically (how can I help others, with this piece of land I have the good fortune to own?). We think of home ownership in such a siloed way, but there are much more interesting ways we can be developing land, making it more affordable for all of us to own a home. 18.01.2022 With the cost of building on the rise on our island, we're in the process of updating our Homeful construction pricing, so it's a realistic indication for you! Homeful costs reflect what it takes to provide a quality, mindfully created design including the use of quality, local materials with reduced waste and careful craftsmanship to construct a building that will be fit for purpose for the long term. 18.01.2022 The demand for rental properties is at an all time + worrying high, Tassie's Government has come up with an Ancillary Dwelling Grant for long-term rentals. A great idea, but no idea on the specifics such as: how they'll police it, the fine print, or detailed parameters. We'll remain realistically optimistic until more details are released. Until then, here's what we know, from the Premier's State address; ... ".. A ‘no permit required’ pathway for landowners to construct ancillary dwellings on their properties. Ancillary dwellings are extra living quarters, with a floor area of less than 60 square metres, which are self-contained but additional to the primary home on a block, such as a granny flat. Ancillary dwellings allow homeowners to accommodate changing family needs, + they also add value to the family home. And to help meet demand for rental properties, today I am announcing that the first 250 new ancillary dwellings that are made available for long-term rental for more than two years will receive a $10,000 payment." It’s a wonderful moment to walk within the timber frame work of these small spaces + realise that they really are enough! Enough for cooking a meal with friends, reading on the deck + lying in on a Sunday morning, soaking in the views from bed with a cuppa. When our lovely clients at Longley asked if we could help them with some inspiration + simple ideas for their outdoor space on a steep site, we were more than happy to add it in to their Homeful package.
