25.01.2022 This week our staff completed their annual Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation course with Canberra First Aid and Training. The course was professionally run, with a friendly and knowledgeable trainer. Canberra First Aid and Training generously carried out the CPR training as a donation to HOME and we are very grateful. If you are looking for a great first aid course for yourself or your business please give them a call or visit their website www.canberrafirstaid.com Thanks again Canberra First Aid and Training.

24.01.2022 Our second story, features John. John has always loved horses and was a jockey for 4 years in the Canberra District. He then went on to become a trainer and trained the Braidwood Horse of the Year named Rustle Up! John is also a fabulous artist and poet and always has a winning smile for anyone he meets. A true gentleman!

22.01.2022 Thanks to the wonderful staff at Daramalan College who stayed back after work last week and cooked some quiches and lasagnes for our residents. We are so appreciative of these meals and the residents love having beautiful home cooked meals. Thank you so much Daramalan Staff!

22.01.2022 We would like to congratulate Murray who has been named The Australian Volunteer of the Year for Greening Australia. Murray was one of our very first residents to move in to HOME and we are so proud of everything he has accomplished. Congratulations Murray on an amazing achievement. Below is an excerpt from Murray’s award. ... Volunteer of the Year: Murray Kelly, Australian Capital Territory Murray has been part of both the Wednesday Canberra nursery volunteers and the Thursday Green Team for a decade. During COVID-19 restrictions, he was one of a few volunteering at the nursery on Tuesdays too. He is incredibly reliable, thorough, self-directed and punctualeven though it takes him a two-hour bus trip in each direction to attend. We estimate that over 10 years, Murray has contributed 3,000 hours (400 days) to Greening Australianot including transit time.

21.01.2022 Today is World Mental Health Day and 2020 has been a very tough year for many, so it is very important we take care of ourselves and our loved ones.

20.01.2022 Once again we would like to really thank the Queanbeyan Quilters who provide a beautiful handmade quilt for each of our new residents. The quilts are always received with so much joy and they make the residents feel loved and special. It is such a beautiful generous gesture and the Queanbeyan Quilters have been providing the quilts since we first opened, thank you so much. Here are some photos of a couple of quilts that Narell dropped off recently.

17.01.2022 There's just 1 week until the Hands Up for CBR Giving Day kicks off! Let’s raise $500,000 for 50 local charities helping people in need! HOME in Queanbeyan has been selected as one of the charities to be supported by the Hands Up for CBR Giving Day. HOME does not receive any ongoing Government Funding, our income is generated by residents paying rent, donations and fundraising events. So we are very grateful for events like this. Tuesday, March 9 (the day after Canberra Day)... is the Hands Up for CBR Giving Day - 48 hours to give where you live to support the wonderful organisations in our community working with those in need. Every $1 you donate will become $2 with matched funding available for the first $5,000 raised by each of our charities. We'll have 48 hours to raise $500,000! Come on Canberra, let’s do this! Donate to one cause, or all at www.canberraday.org.au

16.01.2022 There are a number of people who quietly support HOME to help make it the loving place that it is. Never asking for anything in return. Two of these special people are Anne Urquhart and Sue Lavery. For many years now, Anne and Sue have arrived at HOME just before a resident's birthday with a cake and homemade card to help us celebrate the resident's special day. As well as this at Christmas and Easter they bring a little gift for each resident again with that personalised... homemade card. Anne and Sue, thank you so much for all you do for the residents at HOME. Your generosity does not go unnoticed. Love from everyone at HOME.

13.01.2022 Everyone at HOME would like to thank Michael Mallon for his amazing contribution to HOME over many years. Michael first started supporting HOME when it was just an idea, he then went on to become Chair of the HOME board from 2013-2020. Michael has given so much to HOME and we appreciate all he and his beautiful wife Fran have done for us. Michael has now stepped down as Chairman and we wish him all the best. Words cannot express how appreciative we are of Michael and Fran for everything they have done for HOME. Michael a selfless and faithful leader.

11.01.2022 Faces of HOME Glen Jarvis was one of HOME's original Board members and is still on the Board. A kind, gentle and generous man. He volunteers with HOME and helps out with overnight caretaking when needed. For many years he has been taking residents on trips down the coast which they enjoy so much.... Glen genuinely cares about, not only the residents, but everyone at HOME. He has such a calm manner and makes everyone around him feel comfortable. We love it when Glen comes to our Wednesday music afternoons. He always surprises us with his choice of song. Glen is a much loved and valued member of the HOME community. Thanks Glen for all you do.

10.01.2022 Faces of HOME Mario has been volunteering at HOME since we opened in 2010. He was still working at that time and would come on Saturdays to teach Luis Italian. He will sit and talk, organise a fun activity like bingo or a DVD, go walking with the residents and always willing to fix our TV, DVD or anything electronic! ... As well as volunteering for HOME he also works in the kitchen for St Benedicts on alternate Tuesdays. Mario is a very important part of our HOME community. He has been described by residents as a caring, gentle and lovely man. Thank you for all you do.
