20.01.2022 Last month, some participants from our program had the opportunity to take part in a sailing day at the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club - RPAYC thanks to the Saltwater Veterans. Dan, a participant, had this to say: The club kindly donated experienced dedicated crews, their time, facilities and obviously all the boats and equipment to give a vet an opportunity to meet some friendly like-minded people for a hands-on sailing experience. I was given the chance to skipper from t...he helm on a 40-foot yacht for about 30mins. It was a thrilling experience taking me back to the days of my younger brother and I racing sabots on Lake Macquarie when I was 10 years old. We even got the boat powering into the wind at one stage needing the entire crew to move to one side for extra ballast which was exhilarating. Afterwards the club put on a sumptuous lunch and many a seafaring tale was shared by some of the old salty dogs. A great day had by all and am extremely looking forward to next month. Keep an eye out for upcoming events by visiting the Saltwater Veterans page: http://ow.ly/iVM050BgCGX

18.01.2022 In the lead up to the 75th Anniversary of Victory in the Pacific, 97 year old Lin (Lindsay) Dufty, resident of RSL ANZAC Village, Narrabeen, was interviewed about his experiences and service during the Second World War. On 19 February 1942, aged 18 and only 5 weeks after enlisting, Lin found himself in the midst of the first Japanese air raid on Darwin. He recalls, At 0955 hours all hell broke loose. Bombs were falling all around. Wave after wave of bombers passed overhead a...nd fighters streaked across the skies at roof top level, the Zero pilots were clearly visible, looking down up us, grinning. At the time his only thoughts were of survival but later after an eerie silence he knew he had watched history unfold this was the first time mainland Australia had been attacked. #VeteranHistory #SupportOurVeterans #VPDay

13.01.2022 Do you know the correct way to wear a mask to ensure it protects you, your friends and family? For example, if you touch the front of the mask while youre wearing it, then you may pick up the very germs that the mask has protected you from. It is important to only touch the elastic when wearing or removing your mask. But if you do touch the mask, then wash or sanitise your hands immediately. #Covid19 #Caringforourcommunity #agedcare #rsll...ifecare The Victorian Government has recently mandated wearing masks in public in metropolitan Melbourne or the Mitchell Shire. Outside of these areas the Federal health advice remains, that if you are well then face masks are not required where there is low community transmission of COVID-19 and you can maintain safe social distancing. 12.01.2022 In November 2019 the ex-service men and women of Connie Fall organized and ran a Christmas raffle and raised a huge $682. The residents of Connie Fall decided to use some of the money raised to buy snacks and treats to fill 15 care packages to be sent to the Australian Defense Force for ANZAC Day. Australian Defence Force in the Middle East Our residents were so proud to recieve thank you cards and emails from Task Force 633 in Afghanistan and last month we held a video call... with the Task Force. The call, which lasted for nearly an hour was a huge success linking current service personnel with our retired veterans. The residents prepared and asked many questions, they enjoyed sharing stories, especially the differences between the armed forces now compared to WWII. The video call was the talk of Connie Fall for many days to follow, particularly in our Vets at Ease activity group. Thank you for your service in Afghanistan on behalf of the staff and residents of Connie Fall. #Team633 #YourADF #Veterans
