A long long time ago, in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s, homeopathy in America was surging ahead in popularity with the public, doctors and educating institutions. In fact homeopathy became such a threat as so many people started turning to homeopathy for their treatments, the AMA was formed to counter this insurgence. They bandied together with the pharmaceutical industry to thwart its growth and that eventually led to a decline in the patr...onage by patients to see homeopaths. It wasn’t until the 1970’s where this started to change and homeopathy began to re-emerge again. 24.01.2022 AND HERE IS A GOOD NEWS STORY TO START THE YEAR OFF The American Journal of Public Health has recently published a survey article out of Harvard that shows that there has been a 15% increase in the use of homeopathic medicine in the U.S. population. Moreover, homeopathy is one of the top 3 complementary therapies used as part of their health care plan. The journal recognised the possible public benefits that came with using homeopathy particularly in minimising the use of an...tibiotics, lowered costs in treating certain respiratory diseases, assisting peri-menopausal depression and supporting chronically ill individuals. Although homeopathy is quite low in the U.S., it was noted that uptake in Italy and Germany was much higher, where a survey showed that one-in-six adult Italians use homeopathy. 21.01.2022 FLU SEASON IS NOT OVER YET, BUT HELP IS AT HAND Even though the weather has started to warm up, the prevalence of contracting a cold or the flu is still high. Strengthening one’s immune system to be more resilient is an important step to minimising the impact this condition has on you as well as reducing the chance of picking it up. Having a good diet, taking the appropriate supplements and avoiding those with the infections are important steps to take. The use of homeopathy ...can also be added to the mix to help with both addressing the symptoms of these conditions as well as having homeopathic treatment as a way to minimising the chances of becoming affected. What is interesting is a recent Brazilian study into the use of homeopathic medicines for the prevention of influenza and acute respiratory tract infections in children that has shown some promising results. The trial was conducted at the Brazilian Public Health System in Petropolis with children aged from one to five years old. What this trial demonstrated was that those children who had taken homeopathic medicines over the course of the year did not develop any symptoms of flu or acute respiratory infections, whilst those children placed on placebo experienced three or more of such episodes. 19.01.2022 KEEP HOMEOPATHY ALIVE ON THE SHELVES IN PHARMACIES The federal government plans to ban the sale of homeopathic remedies in pharmacies based on the flawed advice from the NHMRC Homeopathy Review. The Australian Homeopathic Association has responded with a number of interviews in defence of homeopathy and the consumer’s right to choose. 19.01.2022 HAVE YOU THOUGHT ABOUT THE LONG-TERM COSTS OF YOUR HEALTHCARE? What is not often considered is the long-term financial cost that comes with managing your health. A 6-year comparative economic evaluation of healthcare costs and mortality rates of Dutch patients from conventional and complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) GPs was undertaken (see article here: https://bmjopen.bmj.com/content/4/8/e005332.short). This study highlights how using CAM alongside conventional med...icine reduces both hospital care costs and pharmaceutical care costs. Also, the European Coalition on Homeopathic & Anthroposophic Medicinal Products (ECHAMP) has published a literature review (that can be found here: https://www.echamp.eu/echamp-resources/special-reports) on the cost-effectiveness of homeopathy and anthroposophic medicine in order to show how these two modalities contribute to lowering the cost on health care. An extensive search was carried out analysing the direct and indirect and intangible cost savings the could be made. The studies showed a significant decrease in direct and indirect costs for chronically ill patients when using homeopathy or anthroposophic medicine. What was also apparent was the significant improvement in the quality of life that came when using these treatments, a measure that is not often factored into the evaluation of treatment outcomes. Food for thought or money in the bank? By choosing to incorporate the use of therapies like homeopathy into your healthcare plan, your health can improve in more ways than one.

15.01.2022 MANAGING THE ANXIETY OF SEPARATION Are you having trouble leaving your child at school drop off? Is this causing major difficulties for either your child or yourself as the parent when you have to say goodbye? For first-time parents and children going to school either for the first time or having to leave mum at the school-gate can be a traumatic experience. It may start at breakfast time, with your child already becoming irritable, anxious, and showing signs that they do no...t want to go to school. I have had many parents tell me stories of their child refusing to leave the house or if in the car refusing to get out or cling tightly to the car seat for fear of going to school. At other times, parents have told me about having to accompany their child into the school and attend their class most of the morning until they feel comfortable to be left behind. Sometimes the child needs to have their teacher meet them at the school gate and walk them to their class before they feel settled. For parents, this can also be an anxious time for them. As the realisation that their child is starting to grow up, the beginning of school marks a milestone in this phase of their life. This can trigger anxiety and stress for those mums who have this underlying concern. Homeopathy is excellent in helping children to overcome these anxieties as well as helping the parents with their worries and concerns that are triggered as your child starts to grow up. 01.01.2022 CONSUMER ACCESS TO HOMEOPATHIC MEDICINES ARE AT RISK! Make a submission to protect homeopathy and safeguard consumer access to homeopathic medicines in pharmacies. There isn’t much time to speak out; responses need to be received by Sunday 23rd July.... On 22 June 2017, a government report - Review of Pharmacy Remuneration & Regulation Interim Report (The King Review) - was released for public consultation. It is recommending that homeopathic products (e.g. hayfever drops, teething and colic formulas) should not be sold in pharmacies. The report bases this on the flawed National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Homeopathy Review, which concluded homeopathic medicines are ineffective. If the King report is approved, it could mean all homeopathic medicines would be removed from pharmacies around Australia. This report is the latest in an ongoing agenda to remove homeopathy as a healthcare choice for Australians. There is real concern that homeopathy could be the first in a long line of other natural therapies due for this kind of legislation, resulting in the community’s choice of, and access to, other natural therapies becoming difficult in the future. It also means that the manufacture of homeopathic medicines in Australia is under threat homeopaths themselves may not be able to access homeopathic medicines either. The Report is open to public submissions until 11.59pm, 23rd July 2017. How you can object: Write a submission or answer an online questionnaire - just follow the prompts below. Share these details to as many people as you can. 01.01.2022 EFFECTIVENESS OF ARNICA IN POST-SURGICAL PAIN AND INFLAMMATION Arnica montana has traditionally been the homeopathic go-to remedy after injuries or trauma. It is a remedy I have given countless times to my patients and my children to help relieve the acute symptoms that follow trauma, injuries or as a support to recovery after surgery. When prescribed correctly and in the right circumstances it is a great friend and ally in bringing relief. The American Journal of Therapeut...ics (www.pubmed.gov PMID 25171757) has reviewed the therapeutic uses of Arnica montana in the treatment of several inflammatory conditions in pain management and postoperative settings. In this study, it was found that Arnica has been effective in several conditions including post-traumatic and post-operative pain, swelling and bruising. The journal also suggests that Arnica may be a valid alternative to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs when given in such circumstances.
