17.01.2022 Last year, Homes for Homes granted funding to Havelock Housing for a project in Canberra that provides affordable, secure and long-term tenancies to matched pairs of older women, who often have backgrounds of family violence. Speaking to one of the tenants earlier this year, she expressed how grateful she was to have a safe place to live and enjoy freedoms that she simply didn't have before. "I enjoy being able to decorate my own house, move things around and have it set up h...ow I want it. I can watch TV and cook when I want, I can even have guests! I was told I would have to wait 10 years to get proper social housing but in less than 2 years, Havelock housing helped me get one, and the house is very nice and peaceful. I have done some gardeningflowers and a lot of tomatoes. They’re massive! I give the extras to my neighbours and friends." It is beautiful to see how this house has become a home. #EveryHomeHelps. 17.01.2022 Between September 2016 and June 2020, the number of households on the Victorian Housing Register, the waiting list for social housing, increased from 33,073 to 45,698. The massive shortfall of social and affordable housing in Victoria means that the wait time for those on the register is likely to increase. Homes for Homes provides a way for the entire community to help solve the issue of homelessness, by raising funds for social and affordable housing through donations from property sales. Homes for Homes is active in Victoria and our grant funding has enabled 25 Victorians to be housed. Victorian homeowners can be part of the solution and help end homelessness in their state by registering their home with Homes for Homes.
11.01.2022 "Staying in emergency accommodation is hard...It's just better than having no accommodation," says Bevan Warner, CEO of Launch Housing in The Big Issue Australia's latest edition. The coronavirus crisis saw thousands of rough sleepers move into temporary housing, but as writer Katherine Smyrk discovers, it also presents the opportunity for even bigger change for more than 116,000 Australians experiencing homelessness. #HW2020 #EveryHomeHelps ... issuu.com//the_big_issue_australia__616___finding_home_by_
08.01.2022 You are probably aware of the social issues surrounding homelessness, but what about the economic costs? A heavier reliance on the health care, legal and justice system means that the full impact of homelessness is often not fully quantified. Ensuring that people are safely and securely housed is the right thing to do for the community and for the economy.... https://theconversation.com/if-we-realised-the-true-cost-of
