22.01.2022 The rise in cases of COVID-19 in aged care facilities further shines a light on the challenges of the current aged care system. Poorly paid, overworked, casualised work force, working with limited training in infection control. Homeshare is an alternative to aged care. Keeping our older Australians at home for longer and enabling them to see their life out in the environment they know and love. Time to think about alternatives. https://www.abc.net.au//victoria-coronavirus-aged/12498532
22.01.2022 In this time of uncertainty and fear something beautiful has risen out of the sadness and challenge. Home Share Melbourne has never seen so many people offer their spare bedrooms to asylum seekers. This says something about our community, when things are tough we pull together!

21.01.2022 Looking for a flatmate to live with a 45 year old male called Warren. There is also another male named Neel who in his mid 30s and works as a manager in the disability sector who lives with Warren at the property. Warren has Cerebral Palsy and an intellectual disability and lives at his home in Doncaster. Ideally he would like his second flatmate to be someone who is kind and patient as well as being happy and positive. We are looking for a non smoker of any age, who is looki...ng for a longer term home. We would consider someone with one small friendly dog, but no other pets. Warren is an active person who has many life interests and a busy weekly schedule of activities. He is an accomplished artist, he volunteers at the police museum and Salvos coffee shop, loves music and attends church weekly. The property is owned by his parents and has three bedrooms and bright living areas and a small outside space. Warren has previously had flatmates and has greatly enjoyed the companionship that this brings. Home Share Melbourne is supporting Warren to find the perfect flatmate. The room is $170/week plus $45 utilities and Internet (unlimited) = $215 per week with 4 weeks bond ($860.00.)
21.01.2022 Coronavirus update: Home Share Melbourne continues to operate, support our existing matches and where possible continues to make matches during this time. We believe that Homeshare is needed more now than ever. People living with disabilities are more vulnerable to being isolated as it is, we want to ensure that if someone wants a supportive flatmate to move in, we will make that possible. Our asylum seeker program also continues to operate. With asylum seekers having limited protections under the government's support package, this group is increasingly at risk of becoming homeless, therefore we see matching asylum seekers with community members as being an essential service.

12.01.2022 Home Share Melbourne's Homelessness Program is assisting with the COVID-19 crisis! Two million people on temporary visas such as international students and migrant workers in Australia are now without financial support and facing homelessness as a result. Home Share Melbourne assisted 20 year old international student Jessa who lost her job and her apartment during the first round of COVID-19 lock downs. Jessa couldn't return home due to boarder closures and had no support or access to government assistance. Jessa now lives with a retired nurse and pays no rent. Jessa cooks traditional food from the Philippines and has been helping with the gardening. Homeshare is a win-win!
12.01.2022 Home Share Melbourne is aware of the profound impact that the current coronavirus crisis is having on people living with a disability. Many people simply aren't able to avoid contact with people when they rely on it to survive. We continue to offer our service in this time and are passionate about supporting both our existing matches and people who are considering it as an option. Homesharing could be the key to reducing isolation and limiting the amounts of carers needed. Get in touch if you would like more info!

07.01.2022 Warren has been living in his home for 5 years and has had a handful of supportive flatmates living with him during this time. Warren has a disability which means that he needs a little extra help to live happily in a way where he is connected and able to live as independently as possible. Warren is an artist, a volunteer with the Victorian Police, enjoys keeping fit and loves to socialise over a coffee. Home Share Melbourne matched Warren with his new buddy and flatmate Kawa two months ago and they have been isolating together throughout the coronavirus pandemic. They have been engaging in lots of fun activities such as going running, doing art work, catching up on the news and watching Netflix together. Some homeshare magic right here!

01.01.2022 Home Share Melbourne is looking for a friendly, supportive home for Miranda. Miranda is 19 years old and recently moved from Tassie to Melbourne to be near her boyfriend. She is currently living alone in Prahran and hopes to find a home and a flatmate or two in the area. She loves the local shops, parks and discovering new things. Miranda enjoys keeping fit and healthy and walks every day. She love dogs (especially Samoyeds). The HSM crew are helping Miranda to find one or... two other females to live with. Either in an established house share or in a new one which could be created. Ideal flatmates would be women who are between 20 and 40 years old who have similar interests. We are looking for people who would enjoy eating a few meals together every week, doing some cooking together and hanging out as flatmates do. The opportunity is to live with Miranda in a rent free or significantly subsided rent arrangement in return for providing around 10 hours of mentoring and companionship throughout the week. Bills will be shared. If you think you could be a good match for Miranda or have any questions, please get in touch! [email protected]. See more
