25.01.2022 It's been a minute since we started our ethical beekeeping adventures. About 9 years, actually. :) <3 Rueban is a 4th generation beekeeper and his father is a commercial beekeeper. We started with a 2 frame hand extractor. We only recently moved up to a 12 frame electrical extractor. We are still not 'proper' beekeepers, according the government we are still classed as hobbyists. While we have only a small amount of hives, we like to think we concentrate on quality, not quantity. We're still not financially viable - but we keep on trying. Thank you so much for all your support. The bees are very happy. :) <3

21.01.2022 Did you know...bees don't change their sheets?! This means their honeycomb frames and hive boxes eventually will darken with dirt, propolis, etc. The darker cells will stain their honey. This is where disease can creep in. Imagine laying your precious baby eggs in a nursery where the linen or honeycomb is such a dank colour. This is where us human servants step in to remove old, stained bedding and give them new frames. And clean or replace their hive boxes. ... These are some of the many reasons why bees can flourish so well with human help and produce much more honey and be much healthier than they would be in 'the wild.'

21.01.2022 It's back! Honeycomb! <3 This season is starting very nicely and we were able to cut out a little honeycomb. See Daniel today (Saturday) at Just Poppy's with our fresh 1 kilo chunk honey (honey with a slice of honeycomb inside the glass jar) as well as some $2.50 little bites of honeycomb. Yes you can eat this honeycomb. Goes deliciously with a slice of cheese. No starter sheets used. All natural and produced just by the bees. The beeswax can actually be very soothing for upset stomaches. Very limited amounts. Open till 8.30pm tonight (Saturday.) A couple of chunk honey jars also available at Wellness Nutrition. <3

18.01.2022 Helping Dad with the bees this morning. School holidays and work experience?! So very grateful that we have work during this global pandemic.

17.01.2022 One of our amazing hosts created this beautiful treat with our honey. Just had to share. Please Note: No guilt. It's perfectly fine this festive season if you don't make gorgeous handmade creations like this. It's ok to just eat cereal out of the box. It's been a heck of a year. https://www.sbs.com.au/food/recipes/fig-honey-and-sage-tart

17.01.2022 Although we have never done this before, we are very grateful for the family in Sydney who wish to remain anonymous who very generously donated funds to pay for 3 complete hive upgrades and beekeeping tools for our hives. Rather than have their name engraved on a permanent plaque on the hive, they asked instead for a scripture: QURAN 16:68-69 "And thy Lord taught the Bee to build its cells in hills, on trees, and in (men's) habitations; Then to eat of all the produce (of the earth), and find with skill the spacious paths of its Lord: there issues from within their bodies a drink of varying colours, wherein is healing for mankind: verily in this is a Sign for those who give thought." The bees are loving their modern, water-proof hives. While we are non-religious, we appreciate very much your help to our fluffy bee friends.

16.01.2022 Highly recommend Vivianne's soaps. She make our beeswax honey soap and lots more. She has just launched ordering from her website. <3

15.01.2022 Just past the mob of wild grey kangaroos, you will find Wolston Farmhouse. The kids loved delivering our honey there recently. Check out their website for upcoming events to book for. https://nationaltrustqld.org.au/heritage-/Wolston-Farmhouse

14.01.2022 Can you taste the macadamia blossoms in this latest batch of our raw organic honey? It's subtle, but delicious. My little macadamia in our Riverhills backyard finally burst into an explotion of blooms this season and the bees loved it. Our raw organic honey available at these 5 covid-safe businesses. Nothing left at home - completely sold out. Our fresh raw organic honey 1 kilo glass jars now available at:... <3 Just Poppy's, Riverhills Plaza, 20 Bogong Street, Riverhills https://www.justpoppys.com.au/ <3 Wellness Nutrition, Middle Park Shopping Centre, 90 Horizon Drive, Middle Park https://wellnessnutritionmiddlepark.com/ <3 Wolston Farm House, 223 Grindle Rd, Wacol QLD 4076 https://nationaltrustqld.org.au/heritage-/Wolston-Farmhouse <3 17 Mile Rocks Church cafe, 512 Seventeen Mile Rocks Rd, Seventeen Mile Rocks QLD 4073 <3 Middle Park State School Tuckshop currently on holidays for 2 weeks.

14.01.2022 Fresh small bites of local organic honeycomb available NOW at Just Poppy's. At $2.50 a serve, they don't last long. Perfect with a slice of cheese.

13.01.2022 Our contribution for the 4074 Thank You BBQ. Love being a part of this supportive community. https://www.facebook.com/groups/4074eventsandbeyond/ Hosted by Lisa Baillie from Forty Seventy Four.... "We are holding a free community BBQ to thank all first responders, healthcare workers, educators, correction officers & emergency volunteers for their tireless commitment to our community during one of the most challenging years we've faced. We are monitoring Qld Health's rules and regulations concerning COVID-19 and will update the event conditions as required."

13.01.2022 New stickers for my 'new-to-me' car. Give me a wave if you see me! :) <3 (Stickers say: 'Beekeeper's wife + 5 kids' and our website 'www.raworganichoney.com.au') Yes we had to downsize. My old beast of a car finally ran out of puff. And now that I don't have 3 large car seats, we could get a slightly smaller car. Still has 7 seats - just the two in the back fold down for when mummy goes shopping when the kids are at school. We bought it from a lady who also had 5 children -... so the car already knows the drill. :D <3 Please forgive any erratic driving behaviours - at any time there may be live bees and/or excited children bouncing around inside the car. (P.S. I have my 'I love the 4074' on the front windscreen - photo in comments. :) <3 )

12.01.2022 To view our current price list and to check what is available, please visit our webpage at www.raworganichoney.com.au or www.honeyandhoneycomb.com.au (both point to the same page :) ) Thank you! Rueban and Ketura and kids (and bees!)

12.01.2022 They're back... 400 gram glass teddy bear jars filled with fresh raw organic honey. $17 each or 2 for $30. Text 0438760643 to organise contacless pickup from our home at 14 Kybean Street, Riverhills Qld 4074.

12.01.2022 Bright and early start to check our bees out at Maryvale. It's alot harder country out there, that went through a shocking drought and bushfires, so we are not expecting to take off any honey. We are ethical beekeepers and only take off excess honey when their hives are too full. Happy healthy bees love to work and will get frustrated and fly away if the hive is too full.

11.01.2022 If you are looking for a Christmas honey glaze recipe, our fabulous host recommends this one. https://cafedelites.com/brown-sugar-mustard-glazed-ham/ Also Prestige Meats at Mt.Ommaney have lots of double smoked hams currently on sale. Not sponsered but highly recommended. https://www.facebook.com/prestigemeats

10.01.2022 Friday afternoon rush home. :) <3 This new type of hive bottom features brightly coloured swivel entrances. They can be easily closed for transportation or if the hive is a little small and weak. All entrances need to be guarded by the bees to protect against ants and other unwanted insects. You can appreciate a small hive may only be able to defend one entrance. This hive is humming along with two doors open for it's large, busy workforce. (The purple door is shut.) <3 We a...re always open to new ways to improve our care of our bees. Hope you all have a happy and safe weekend! Rueban and Ketura and kids (and bees)

10.01.2022 Beer battered chips from Just Poppy's. <3 I would post a photo of the burgers we ordered (Adore, Comfort, When In Rome, Mediterranean and Flooddit) but they are so good they are practically inhaled the moment they arrive home. Fantastic dinner - and if you pick up a jar of our fresh local honey while you are there (fresh full tray just delivered) - it's basically a health food run. :) <3 Thanks again Marc and Poppy for keeping up fueled up with good food - especially during the busy honey season. We couldn't do it without you. <3

07.01.2022 Fresh local raw organic honey from our hives from the 4074 and a half surrounds at Natural Wellness, opposite Coles at Middle Park shopping centre. <3 With or without a slice of honeycomb. It's a wonderful season with particularly glorious honey. Many thanks to our kind hosts for this beautiful photo. 'Bearding' is when the bees hang out on a hot afternoon, fanning in air with their wings.

07.01.2022 The son of one of our hosts in Westlake shot this absolutely superb slow motion video of our bees coming home to their hive. https://vimeo.com/481038958/7acbd2bfbd

06.01.2022 Just a tiny bit of Maryvale honey! Some signs of green and some flowers - but still very dry out there. Just 16 kilos available @ $25 each. The first honey this season from this site in the conservation park. Darker with a much stronger flavour. Every batch is slightly different.

05.01.2022 Beekeeping with Dad this morning. The 5th generation of beekeepers in training. Yes they wanted to go. Yes it's a fight amongst them who gets to go. Yes they enforce a strict turn-taking system.

05.01.2022 It's snowing?! :) <3 Although these mock orange flowers never last for very long, they smell beautiful and the bees quite like them.

04.01.2022 Bees make the world of difference when it comes to pollination and fruit production. Our jabuticaba (with dragon fruit trying to wave into the picture) is a mess of flowers this year. Can you see the first green grape that has popped up?

03.01.2022 What a magnificent beard you have there... Bearding is when bees hang out the entrance of the hive, and sometimes clump onto the outside of the box. They fan cooler air in to cool down the hive. And in this case, the hive was getting a bit full; some honey needed to be taken off before they got frustrated and flew away. Fresh new raw organic honey appearing in stores hopefully next week. (Due to covid 19, it is not safe for us to sell from our doorstep anymore. It is much be...tter for everyone if we sell our honey through businesses with covid-safe plans in place.) Photo courtesy of our new host in Norman Park. :)

01.01.2022 Just Poppy's burgers are always a crowd pleaser. Open till 8pm tonight. And they have a fresh tray of our raw organic honey there too :) <3
