25.01.2022 I picked these African Daisies yesterday from the garden and did a little flat lay shoot of them using natural light, swipe right for my super techy setup . 2 white kitchen cutting boards and a notebook as reflectors, leaning a against random objects. . Spring is popping all around our region at the moment, it’s such an inspiring site! I’m looking forward to shooting flowers non stop for weeks. @ Brogo, New South Wales, Australia

25.01.2022 Hi there , this is me (centre) and my family under one of our favourite giant gum trees on our 128 acre property in Brogo on the far south coast of NSW. . We moved here a little over a year ago to realise our dream of having some land (we only wanted 5-10 acres, ha!) to grow food and to live a lifestyle that's more centred around the seasons, nature, food and community. . My partner Stew and I went halves in the property with my mum Leonie... I can hear most people cringing... at the thought of sharing a property with their family ! We have all lived together before we bought the property so we knew we could make it work and I got lucky, my mum is more of friend. Of course there are times when we all drive each other crazy, but the good far out-ways the bad. We share a wide range of skills and with one extra adults in the house means we are able to live a pretty enjoyable life where the responsibilities, jobs and costs are shared. . How do we make living in the country work?.. well it's not perfect, my partner still works in Sydney (he flies back and forth, yep, we're really sustainable!). I'm building my business (again!) with local clients and my mum is semi-retired and grows all our veggies and is a rocking back-up babysitter for last minute client jobs. . Have you ever dreamt of living in the country? We couldn't wait until we were retired, we wanted to create this life for our daughter now and to do so we've had to make some sacrifices, but we think so far the trade-offs been worth it. See more

24.01.2022 Maker Film (tap for music) - Here’s a little movie I made featuring Gabrielle from @redpegecostudio. I captured this film whilst I was shooting a photo series for @southcoaststylemagazine (these photos can be seen in their latest issue). . Gabrielle makes sustainable, ethical jewelry. She’s dedicated to creating art with minimal environmental impact, so she recycles, up-cycles and uses salvage materials and uses natural alternatives to chemicals. . Gabrielle explains her sty...le My jewellery and wearable art is handcrafted with a naive tribal-like aesthetic, a long way from the ‘traditional’ western style jewellery. . I LOVE her current collection that’s inspired by nature, I purchased a pair of silver seed pod earrings for my mum for Christmas... secretly wanting a pair myself, except I don’t wear earrings! . . . #dslrvideo #femalefilmakers #brandvideo #socialmediavideo See more

17.01.2022 Can you guess which photos use natural light verse studio lights (as the main light source)? These photo are from a brand shoot I did for @dr.aileen, a Clinical Psychologist based in Sydney earlier this year. . I always gravitate towards using natural light when I can, why?.. because it takes so long to set up a bunch of studio lights to emulate the look and feel of natural light. That being said for most shoots I bring along at least two lights as backup, because I like being prepared for anything. I’ve been using studio lights since I was at uni... and that was um... cough, cough,17 years ago. They are a photography tool I still love to use and I often go through stages where I’m very inspired to create scenes with my own lighting skills, rather than just using available light. @ Sydney, Australia

11.01.2022 Do ask your clients/customers for a google review? I've just started doing it and wow it's AMAZING hearing such positive feedback. It is definitely a bit scary putting yourself out there by asking someone what they thought of you. I get nervous before I send each email. . I've only got a handful up on google, but they are all wonderful. This lovely lady here is Danielle from @sapphire_conveyancing and she recently gave me an incredible wrap (swipe right to read). . Why ask ...for them?... it's great for SEO and helping to build your online presence and reputation. . I seem to get about a 50% response rate from clients, half jump at the chance, the other half I don't hear from at all.... which can be disheartening, but the positive reviews help you to forget about the non-responses. I was egged on to start doing this by my lovely friend and fellow photographer Megan @insightcreative_photography, thank you pushing me to try it!. @ Merimbula, New South Wales See more

09.01.2022 I’m loving all the springtime flowers atm, we’ve got lots of little ones opening in our courtyard garden (swipe right for photos from this arvo ) and mum has LOTS of flower seeds just popping up. I can’t wait to see the flower garden in full force once summer starts. . These pink ones are some giant Zinnia from mum's garden that were picked earlier this year (autumn). . There's something so special about having seasons, I love the cues you get from nature as one seaso...ns shifts to the next... the light changes, there's a different smell in the air, your body starts to crave different foods... 09.01.2022 Which one is your fav shot, 1 or 2? When I’m shooting I try a mix of angles to see what works, most often I like straight from above, or a 45 degree angle to the subject. Lemons... have become one of my favourite cooking ingredients since moving to our Brogo property that has two huge well-established lemon trees that we harvest from almost all year round. One of favs that I'll be making this weekend is the @jamieoliver 'Lemon Pasta', it's simple and delicious. Here's ...my take on the recipe below: INGREDIENTS 3 Lemons 500 g dried pasta {homemade or quality egg pasta} 125 g Ricotta {homemade or quality stuff, not that smooth weird supermarket crap} 125 g Parmesan 1 bunch leaf parsley 1 bunch of rocket 60-100 mls quality Olive Oil Salt + Pepper METHOD 1. Zest and juice 3 lemons. 2. Add Olive oil, finely grated parmesan to lemon and beat until creamy. 3. Cook pasta. 4. Coat cooked pasta in lemony/cheese mix, season, add finely chopped parsley and roughly chopped rocket. 5. Serve and dress each bowl with a few tablespoons of fresh ricotta, more lemon zest, a drizzle of Olive Oil {and probably more salt if you're an addict like me} . 07.01.2022 Winner winner!... Maddie has won the free ticket to the Phone Photography Workshop on Sunday 25th August. Yay, congrats!!

07.01.2022 I think the majority of people I meet don’t like being in front of the camera... but the thing is people like to see WHO they are buying from, so it’s important to be brave and share ‘you’ occasionally. Interestingly I think most of us are too busy thinking about own insecurities to tune into someone else’s... so the likelihood of being judged for how you look or don’t look is pretty slim. . I love capturing ‘moving portraits’ like this one, I think even in 3 seconds they can show a little more about you than a still moment. This gorgeous powerhouse is Niki from @kimposoproperties. . Don’t forget the shots you share don’t have be professionally photographed, you can capture a pretty good selfie on your phone. I’m working on a mini tutorial on how to capture a good selfie at the moment.

06.01.2022 What is ‘Portrait Mode’ on your phone camera?... it's where your camera is able to focus on a specific point or subject and this remains sharp and the background turns blurry. If you’ve ever heard of the term ‘Depth of field’ this is what the camera is trying to emulate. It’s a great way to separate your subject from a busy background or to create more ‘depth’ in your photos. Portrait mode is a camera function that is available in most phones above and including the i...Phone 7 plus & Samsung Galaxy S9. Swipe right to see photo used with 'portrait mode' (soft blur to greenery) and without' (background is sharp). 05.01.2022 My favourite go-to recipe, the rustic open tart. I make a savoury and sweet version that uses the same base. The recipe is so adaptable depending on what you have in the fridge. . The pastry is super simple: 100 grams butter 200 grams flour... Pinch Salt 2 tablespoon sugar (if you're making a sweet version only) 1 lemon rind finely grated (I use for both sweet & savoury) 40-50 grams cold water Method: Mix butter, flour, sugar (if it's sweet dough) in food processor until bread crumb consistency, then add lemon rind and cold water until just mixed, take out dough and bring together in your hand and knead it briefly into a ball. Let it rest for 30 minutes (in fridge if it's a hot day) roll out thin (2-3mm) and top with your favourite filling and fold in corners. Bake in 190 oven for approx. 30-40 min depending on your filling. . My two fav fillings are, Silverbeat + Cheese and Apple slices + Jam. . Spinach & Cheese (shown in photo) I bunch of Silverbeat 1 bunch parsley 1 small onion 2 cloves garlic 1 slice of preserved lemon 1/2-1 cup cream or ricotta 4 Eggs + 1 extra for basting pastry 100-150 grams feta . Method Make dough as above (without sugar). Finley dice onion and garlic, sauté in olive oil, put aside. Finley dice silverbeat using stalks if you want to and fry in same pan until wilted and cooked down. Allow to cool if you're adding cream as it makes it too runny. In a new cool bowl, add silverbeat, onions, garlic, finely diced preserved lemon, cream or ricotta, feta, eggs and finely diced parsley. Mix evenly, add mixture to rolled pastry allowing 2-5 cm's space from edge of pastry, fold in sides. Cook for 20 minutes, then take out and baste pastry with beaten egg, bake for another 10-20 minutes or until filling has set. See more

05.01.2022 Meet the Jo from @seahealthproducts, she’s a Kelp Farmer from Tilba Tilba. These photos were captured for a regional story that was featured on @thedesignfiles today as part of a my project @_willworkforfood_. . The shoot day started before dark, I drove into Bermagui and there were still stars out. We walked down the beach to find the perfect spot where the golden sunlight would rise behind them without any pieces of the coast obstructing the clear ocean view. The water wa...s like glass and the light was perfection. I remember getting my pants wet up to my knees in the small waves because I was so consumed by the incredible light. Golden light, golden kelp, golden hair = heaven! . After shooting the sunrise we headed back to Jo and Warren’s gorgeous heritage house in Tilba Tilba where their custom built seaweed processing area is setup at the back of their property with views of rolling green hills in every direction. Jo’s passion for kelp, both for its amazing health benefits and for it’s ability to help the environment is so inspiring. She really does have a warm smile like this most of the time... I think if we all started our morning at the ocean on sunrise we’d be walking around with a smile like this too. Make sure you check out the story, it’s a great one! 02.01.2022 Our mini holiday has been booked, yay! A few weeks back I asked for some recommendations on affordable places to visit in the school holidays, thanks to all the lovely people who messaged me with ideas. After looking at distances and time available we’ve decided to go on a holiday in our own region!!.. to Bermagui, only 45 min drive away . . We’ve booked a cute bnb and will spend 5 days hanging at the beach and eating yummy food. Simple, relaxed, stress free and affordable. Have you ever gone on a holiday close to home?.. or are we totally nuts?!

02.01.2022 Can you believe I spent $7000 on computers in the last four months?! What are your biggest business expenses each year? . On average I'd spend $3000-ish each year keeping my equipment up to date and improving my workflow, this covers cameras (& all accessories), lenses, computers, lights and video gear (sound, stabilisers, etc). These costings don't take into account the one million monthly subscriptions I have coming out of my account for software, licensing, etc, nor the ...standard business expenses that everyone has. So whenever I hear, 'could you just take a few quick snaps' (for free), I know the person asking has no idea about the ongoing expenses of running a creative business, it's just like any other business, there are LOTS of expenses to account for before you can pay yourself. . Photography may look like a 'fluffy' sort of business, but the costs aren't so 'fluffy'! . Why did I spend so much on computers this year? I upgraded my desktop computer (as the video card wasn't current enough to run the Premier Pro) and I bought a laptop to give me more flexibility to be able to work anywhere, but laptops really don't have the 'power' needed for video editing and the screen is SO small!. . 01.01.2022 Farm adventures, finding natural treasures and to fixing water pipes. How incredible is this nest my mum found!! Any bird lovers know which bird these eggs might be from? . The roaring wind has pushed us back inside again for a while before we can muster the energy to get outside and do some gardening... or I could just stay inside to bake and eat all day . What have you got planned, work or pleasure, or a bit of both? . Photos captured on my new iPhone 11 plus.. it’s pretty fancy! I’ll be offering some feedback on the new phone in the next email newsletter I send out. You can subscribe at the top of my website. @ Brogo, New South Wales, Australia

01.01.2022 We spent the best day at home today, soaking up any moments of warmth, willing spring along. We went for a bush walk, spent time in the veggie garden (wearing sequins of course!?), played games, rolled out pasta for dinner and watched the last bit of sunlight fade over the great dividing range. . I captured this shot on my iPhone using ‘portrait’ mode and edited it using @googlesnapseed. I think it’s crazy AMAZING that you can get shots of this quality from a phone. When I ...captured this there was a moment where the light changed from being overcast to partly lit with sun. . Do you use ‘portrait’ mode very often? I’ve got a blog post (link in below) giving some great tips on how to use ‘portrait’ mode effectively on your phone. Or for my email subscribers check out the email I sent last Thursday .
