25.01.2022 Mixing, measuring, investigating, hypothesising, estimating, and testing were just some of the exciting science terms that were being used at Honeybears during National Science Week. This week our community of learners have been enjoying an array of science experiments in celebration of this. The Honeybears children amazed us as they estimated and hypothesised what they thought was going to happen before starting, watched on in wonder and enthusiasm as we conducted the exp...eriments, and then dictated back to us what the results and conclusions were. Just some of our experiments this week included: Floating and sinking in saltwater vs freshwater (Exploring Density and Mass) - adding salt to the water to make the water denser. As the salt dissolves in the water, it adds mass (more weight to the water). This makes the water denser and thus allows more objects to float on the surface that would sink in freshwater. Storm in a glass (Precipitation) - Clouds in the sky hold onto water. Clouds can’t keep storing more and more water forever, eventually, they get too heavy. When that happens, the water falls out (precipitates) as rain, snow, sleet, or hail. Volcanos (Chemical Reactions) - Reacting vinegar and bicarbonate soda together produces carbon dioxide and water. Wave in a jar (Exploring Density) - Oil and water don’t mix due to the differing densities of oil and water particles. Water is denser than oil, which means water molecules will always sink below oil. Additionally, water molecules are more attracted to other water molecules than oil molecules, which further prevents the two materials from mixing. What an amazing science week!

21.01.2022 Such a lovely testimonial from Steven, one of our parents from our inaugural year. Steven and his son Cooper have delivered Santa to Honeybears for the last 14 years and we are ever so grateful "It is only by looking back on annual traditions that we really see our children grow. This morning Cooper and I completed our 14th year of delivering Santa to Honeybears. He was just 3ys old when he first played Santa's Elf in the inaugural year of the school and at nearly 17, hi...s annual visit to his Alma Matre is still one of his Christmas highlights. There is no doubt in my mind that his time at Honeybears helped shape the amazing young man he has become. Good care during those programming years is so essential to growth! I look back at the photos over the years, from him sitting beside Santa in the sidecar to this year driving Santa on his learner's permit! I see his physical appearance change and yet I look into his eyes and identify that same little boy who is a product of everyone who guided him through childhood and adolescence. Jo, you and your staff have done an amazing job growing Honeybears, and the positive influence you have had over the growth of our children defies gratitude.. Merry Christmas xx"

15.01.2022 Making our very own butter!! Our inquisitive learners in the Green Bears room have begun a new interest-based project on ‘How things are made’. Our journey began by looking into how food is made. Cooking was a wonderful place to begin as children can participate in the process and enjoy the finished product! ... Today the children learnt how to make home-made butter. Making butter was quite simple only requiring three items. To make our butter we needed one small mason jar, a marble and a small amount of thickened cream. We first filled the mason jar with cream and added a marble before placing the lid on tightly. The children then each took turns shaking the jar as hard as they could. Sounds of the marble rattling up and down could be heard from the jar. After some time the jar became harder to shake as the cream began to thicken into butter. After lunch, we were excited to taste our yummy homemade butter on a slice of bread. The children enjoyed this hands on experience and especially eating the beautiful fluffy butter that they created! Well done Green Bears

10.01.2022 This week at Honeybears the children and educators celebrated NAIDOC week-the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. "The NAIDOC 2020 theme - Always Was, Always Will Be. - recognises and celebrates that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. NAIDOC 2020 invites all Australians to embrace the ancient history of this country a history which dates back thousands of generations".

09.01.2022 The start of spring has been a welcomed change at Honeybears, with warmer mornings playing outside, and also our garden thriving with the change of weather. Some vibrant, green spinach has grown in our Honeybears garden, with many of the children noticing the new addition and asking lots of questions about what it was and what it tasted like. Today, some of the Green Bears picked some of our fresh spinach leaves to make some delicious 'spinach bread'. Our lovely cook Maria ...joined the Green Bears for our group time today, showing everyone the nice clean spinach leaves that she had washed and prepared in the kitchen. The children then watched eagerly as we blitzed up the spinach to make a green liquid. Yeast, sugar, salt, and flour were then added to a bowl, with our spinach liquid to form a very green dough. The Green Bears were then very excited to taste the delicious green bread at afternoon tea time

09.01.2022 Introducing the Inclusion Support Crew-Jay, Jodie, Sarah, Jane, Vanessa and Kyra

06.01.2022 Honeybears grocery store was open for business this week! With the beautiful spring weather now arriving, the Honeybears community of learners have been delighted to be able to enjoy the outdoor environment even more! Nestled in one corner of the yard, a busy supermarket was set up complete with register, shopping baskets, and reusable bags.... A variety of items lined the aisles, ready for the busy shoppers to arrive. This was a wonderful opportunity for dramatic play as the children took on roles, engaged in dramatic conversations, and took turns with one another. Dramatic play can be defined as a type of play where children accept and assign roles, and then act them out. This type of play is an integral part of the developmental learning process by allowing children to develop skills such as: Teaching and encouraging expressive language. Giving children an emotional outlet Teaching conflict resolution Supporting literacy Allowing and supporting children's ideas.

We purchased the CBCA Early Childhood shortlisted books and delighted in reading the new literature to all of the children at Honeybears and Honeybears Junior. The educators and children also enjoyed coming along dressed as their favourite book characters. ... Literature is such an important subject within our curriculum at Honeybears and Honeybears Junior and it is a privilege to read stories to the children, developing their love of books and their pre-reading and pre-writing skills
