23.01.2022 As you are all probably painfully aware... Western Power are doing works in the area and power will be off on Thursday all day and this includes us at school. So that school can continue to operate, a large generator will be operating and will be parked on the Honeywood Avenue side of the school, on the footpath closest to the power board on our site. Western Power have arranged this for us and will divert pedestrian traffic safely around the generator. I hope you are all not too badly affected.

21.01.2022 Thank you to everyone for doing their part to help us manage this pandemic. Although we have stepped up our social distancing measures at school, it is almost impossible to keep children apart. Please if you can, keep your children at home. It is the safest place for your child at the moment.

19.01.2022 NOTICE OF CONSTRUCTION WORKS Dear Honeywood Community please be advised that from this Friday afternoon, access along the school side footpath on Honeywood Ave will be restricted. This is due to the construction of a new pedestrian ramp to access the school. Several parking bays on the east side school car park will also be closed off during construction. Orixon, our builder, will endeavor to keep disruption at a minimum. We apologize for any inconvenience that may be caused.

19.01.2022 Nuytsia is one of our sporting houses and celebrates and recognises this beautiful tree which can be found flowering all around Wandi and surrounds at this time of year. Did you know it is also known as Australia’s Christmas Tree or Moodjar in Noongar. Moodjar is sacred in Noongar culture, with spirits of those who have recently passed away living on the branches on their way to Kurannup (the land of the ancestors). The Moodjar is also the largest variety of mistletoe in the world and only grows naturally in WA.

17.01.2022 Student Mobile Phones: Off and Away, All Day The Student Mobile Phones in Public Schools Policy (Western Australia) takes effect from the start of Term 1, 2020.... The DoE policy requires all public schools to implement a ban on the use of mobile phones for all students from the time they arrive at school to the end of the school day. This extends to the use of smart watches which need to be on airplane mode during this period. The policy aims to reduce distractions in class and improve student engagement. Mobile phones must be turned off and kept out of sight until the end of the school day. Urgent messages for your child will be taken through our College Student Services on 6174 2233 or Administration on 6174 2200.

10.01.2022 Very disappointed to find our water supply has been cut for the second time this year. The plumber is on site and we will be up and running for Tuesday. This is a big job to fix and means wasting lots of water as we have to flush all the pipes for at least 20 minutes to clear the milky water. Please Honeywood neighbours, if you notice anyone hanging around our old (stage one) letter box compound on Honeywood Ave, behind which are our water meters and pipes, please take a photo and let me know.

10.01.2022 I loved our poignant yet simple Remembrance Day Ceremony today. The school community walked in silence, carrying their poppies, to the flag pole lawn. We then shared the Ode, planted our poppies, played the Last Post and Reveille, raised the flags and sang our National Anthem. All of our students showed such great respect and reverence. I was so proud. Special thanks to Mrs. West for playing the bugle for us.

09.01.2022 DISTURBING CONTENT ALERT Dear Honeywood families I have been advised of an extremely disturbing graphic and violent suicide video which has been seen accidentally by several staff and students while online at home. Most sites are trying to remove this content but it has been cleverly hidden within other videos. Please, for the next couple of days restrict online access for your children, especially for things like You Tube, Facebook, Tik Tok and Discord. If your child has see...n this video and you are concerned about them, please let us know and we will do our best to support you. 05.01.2022 PLEASE: if parents do decide to keep their children home, parents MUST abide by all other laws, including all new social distances rules that have been introduced. If you decide to keep your kids at home, they need to stay home. Having kids seeing their friends, or hanging out at the shops, or being looked after by elderly grandparents will all make the situation far worse than having them at school.

05.01.2022 ALWAYS WAS, ALWAYS WILL BE NAIDOC Week. The artwork shows the Rainbow Serpent coming out of the Dreamtime to create this country. Download a #NAIDOCWeek colouring-in poster at http://spr.ly/6183HBnKP

01.01.2022 IMPORTANT UPDATE FOR ALL WA SCHOOLS - PLEASE SHARE. WA schools have now been back for almost three weeks. Over that time, we've seen a steady increase in attend...ance, with an average of 85.6% of students in attendance at WA public schools yesterday. I'd like to thank all of our principals, teachers, school staff, cleaners, gardeners, parents, carers and students for making the return to school such a success so far. At the start of term we opted for a ‘soft’ opening of WA public schools so parents who felt comfortable with their kids returning could do so but those who had concerns could choose to keep their kids home. At that time, we flagged that WA school arrangements would be reassessed after three weeks. Today I'm able to provide an update that will apply to all WA schools going forward. As of next Monday, 18 May, all Western Australian school students will be required to return to school. This decision has the full support of all stakeholders in the education sector, and our health experts. There are exceptions for students who are medically vulnerable or those who have a family member with chronic health issues, who will be assessed and can continue to learn from home and will be supported by their schools and the Department of Education. But from Monday, students who remain away from school without good reason, will no longer be provided with learning packages and their absence will be marked as unauthorised. Based on health advice, students in residential facilities will be now permitted to return home at weekends, at the discretion of the principal or manager. Through the State Government’s $43 million additional investment, strict environmental cleaning throughout the school day, including high-touch surfaces and playground equipment will continue at public schools, as will reinforced hygiene measures. Drop off and pick up arrangements that restrict parents and carers, and non-essential visitors, from entering school grounds remain in place. Individual schools will provide further information to their parents and carers on how each school will manage these changes. At this stage, certain activities such as assemblies, camps and inter-school events remain prohibited. Going forward, any further changes for schools will be considered in line with the WA roadmap for easing COVID-19 restrictions in our State. As always, State Government decisions will be based on the best health advice. Thank you again for your cooperation and understanding as we navigate this together.

01.01.2022 Hello everyone This morning I was very sad and frustrated to hear our neighbours at AubinGrove PS have been hit by the water metre thief and vandal once again. As you may recall, we too have been impacted by this crime twice now. We were lucky in that our school operations were not affected because the damage was done on a public holiday. If schools do not have water it is a health hazard and we have to close the school until water is restored which of course, causes major d...isruptions. The repair takes nearly a whole day to complete. The thief historically has targeted schools in the area on long weekends. As we have a long weekend coming up, can you please take note of any suspicious activity near our water metre compound which is located on Honeywood Avenue right near the entry to the stage one school car park where the letter box is. If you do see someone, even if they are in high vis, please call Education Security on 1800 177 777. We have asked them to do additional patrols over the weekend so they should be close by. Thank you . See more
