25.01.2022 Love my fishing but also love the snow

25.01.2022 Its just around the corner

24.01.2022 Side steps off. A lot of clearance even at standard height but not staying that way with no protection on the sills

24.01.2022 Well what a weekend for fishing! Wind, weed and wet weather being the norm at the moment makes it a good time for maintenance and repairs to your gear, reels, rods, line and terminal tackle. This is just generalised knowledge as each reel type is different and read you user manual for the specifics of your reel. The reels are the workhorse of your fishing equipment with the most moving parts. Sand and salt water are your arch nemesis getting into every nook and cranny and can... cause the most heartache on a fish of a lifetime if not maintained properly. A few simple things before you start stripping anything down is a CLEAN work area, a towel to work on and lay out parts, a rag, lubricant such as WD40 or Inox etc, reel grease and of course fresh water. 1st and foremost if you're not sure of anything on the reel take it to a professional and spend the money. Wash your reel down with fresh clean water avoiding using pressure essentially rinsing it down, even taking your rod setup into the shower with you works to get rid of any buildup. Let it dry and take it over to your work area. Spread out a big cloth that you can lay out the parts on in sequence as you take them off making it easier for assembly later on as you just need to work in reverse. Using your rag and spray wipe over every part inside and out cleaning out all the gunk buildup. Once clean apply some reel grease to the shaft and the spool. Spray the roller bearing on the bail arm making sure it moves freely and smooth. Once back together check the line for any nicks or abrasions cutting off anything you find. It makes a good habit to get into and check after every cast before recasting your bait or lure out. It's as simple as running the line through your thumb and finger. Rod guides should be checked for chips and cracks as this will cut your line and lose the fish. Check the rod itself for any nicks or marks as it can compromise the integrity of the rod, especially the new carbon fibre rods. Sharpening hooks isn't as hard as you would think. I use a simple method of getting 2 chainsaw sharpening files and taping them together and run the hook between the 2. Swivels can gunk up very quickly too especially surf fishing so when you're checking your line while fishing also check the swivels too. If using gang hooks this will apply also as sand clogs up between the eye and the next hook when baiting up. It's the simple things that can make the difference between landing and losing the fish so until next time get out there, have some fun and catch some fish. See more

22.01.2022 A positive outlook on life

22.01.2022 Fishing and beach report for Rainbow Beach. Over the last couple of weekends its been a bit hard going during the day with more success at night due to the pristine water conditions leading up to the next moon phase this weekend. Dart, Whiting, Bream, Flathead and Jew have all been caught off the beach, even a nice one I hooked in the shallows straightening out a No.2 Tru turn hook that I got to see glistening in the sun before swimming away. Middle Rock has been posing some challenges getting around, even my sidesteps falling victim to them but with the change coming through on Monday not only did it bring cooler weather with it but more sand being washed up around filling in the rocks to make an easier passage for all and school holidays on our doorstep just in time too.

22.01.2022 So these turned up today from The IkiPik. For a more humane way to despatch your catch. Cant wait to try them out.

21.01.2022 Get in on this comp.

21.01.2022 Here is a how to make a simple whiting rig for spin and Alvey. 1st of all there is no right way or wrong way of making these. What you will need is a No.2 or No.4 ball sinker depending on where you are fishing whether it is surf or eastury and how rough the conditions are. The rougher it is or high current flow the heavier sinker is used. The only difference between spin and alvey is one swivel extra. 1st the Alvey sinker setup. Take a swivel and attach it to your mainline w...ith whatever knot you like to use, personally I use the uni knot. Next cut a 20cm piece of leader and tie another swivel to one end. Now you can choose to use soft beads either side of the sinker as there are 2 schools of thought on this. 1: It softens the impact of the sinker against the swivel therefore reducing noise and protecting your knot as to not scare off the fish. 2: No soft beads allowing the sinker to hit the swivels and the noise attracting the fish. Either one produces the goods. Take your sinker and slide it onto the leader down to the swivel and tie the loose end to the swivel on your main line trapping the sinker between the two and reducing line twist. With a spin setup simply slide the sinker onto the main line and tie off your swivel. Again it is up to you if you use a soft bead between the sinker and swivel. This is the only difference between the two setups. Cut a 45cm piece of leader and tie it to the swivel and slide a piece of red tubing over the line followed by a red bead then attach your #4 of #2 long shank hook. Personally I use the #2 as it is bigger and less likely to be swallowed and gut hooked. Now you're ready to fish, just hook your bait preference on whether it be worm, pippi or yabby and you're away so until next time, get out there and have some fun and catch some fish. Ingredients used: No.2 or No.4 ball sinker 1 small swivel for spin and 2 for Alvey. Soft beads (optional) Red tubing and red bead #2 or #4 long shank hook Leader 6-8lb Main line 6-8lb Reels Alvey 60GT, Spin 2500 - 3500 Rod 2 - 4kg 10ft - 11ft

19.01.2022 So this just happened! A very special thanks to Drew Gardiner of Gardiner Fisheries Rainbow Beach for organising them for me

18.01.2022 So yesterdays fishing effort saw 10 whiting being caught of Inskip Point out near the barge to try and beat the weed. 4 keepers in total with sizes ranging from 19cm to 28cm with the average size of them coming in was around the 20.5cm mark. I like to measure each fish to get an idea of how healthy the eco system is. With these little fellas coming in with every bait ball we saw busting up it is pretty good. All were sent back to get bigger.

14.01.2022 Soooo this happened yesterday. What could it mean in the very near future?

14.01.2022 Hi everyone Big Al from Hooked On Rainbow. With the weather being the way it was this weekend there wasn't much happening fishing wise so I was putting together more gear and sorting out the shed. I unboxed my Busted Fishing Fishing BF-216 line winder that does overhead and spin reels and should handle the Alvey's too as I have a few to spool up. When I say a few I mean somewhere in the vicinity of 55 new reels and re-spool 5 current reels in use so it was money well spent. T...hen there are the rods! Everything from Whiting rods to heavy Shark game rods. The drones are just sitting as it was too windy to get them out not to mention the weed still sticking around just off the beach, but despite all that there were some nice fish being caught over the weekend. A nice haul of tailor was caught at Inskip Point, Whiting are pretty much everywhere with the warmer weather coming in and with the Flathead comp on the weekend there were quite a few brave souls out there facing the weather getting amongst it and yes I was not one of them. See how this weekend goes with this crazy weather coming in where I get out and amongst it. Until then have fun and catch some fish. See more
