25.01.2022 I am a bit late with posting this one! Two weeks ago Shannon made an appointment to try on two dresses that she saw on my website. One was a DWB dress and the ...other was one of the labels I stock Shannon only had one week to the wedding, so no time to waste! Both dresses looked looked great on her and both needed minimal alterations. A few hours later, she made the decision to go with the DWB dress She chose a simple design in super smooth silk dupion with an a line skirt with box pleats, a cross over gathered bodice with a bling trim feature on the waist One fitting was scheduled and then she picked the dress up the day before the wedding. 24.01.2022 Tonight I want to talk about off the rack wedding dresses. Whilst custom made has been my speciality since 1987, the off the rack side has increased in popula...rity and is becoming busier and busier! This includes brides picking up super bargains with my own ex bespoke samples Im a person who doesnt like the hard sell or gimmicks to be persuaded to buy something then and there. Unless a bride is 100% sure that a dress is for her at an appointment, I always advise to go home and sleep on it for a day or two. If you are still thinking about that particular dress, then its the one! If you are umming and ahhing then its probably not the one for you. If its a dress that I can not re-order (the last one), I will hold it for 2 days. I also allow photos to be taken, so you can look once you get home and use this to help you make a decision. The biggest piece of advice I have is that once you have picked a dress, stop looking! It just confuses you and makes the entire process more difficult for yourself! 24.01.2022 Congratulations to all those who have recently become engaged! I would love to meet with you if you are thinking of starting your wedding gown journey. I belo...ng to many wedding groups on Facebook where I am always reading that brides to be arent considering having their wedding dress custom made because it is most likely out of their budget and too expensive. In some cases it may be, but at DWB my custom couture made wedding gowns start from $1150 with an average price of $1850. A couture dress is created 100% from scratch - each custom design is individually patterned and the finest materials are specifically sourced and cut for each bride with several progress fittings. This means you will truly be able to say that your wedding gown is unique Something to remember is that at DWB I do not copy other designers dresses. Any reputable dressmaker will abide by this. It is copyright and morally wrong. But, I can always use pictures of dresses for inspiration I dont believe a couture dress should be rushed so a minimum of 6 months is required but I do prefer 8 months if possible. 22.01.2022 Sometimes a bride and a dress are just meant to be I had gorgeous bride message me last week on Friday night to ask if she could make an appointment to try on... a particular dress. It was urgent as the wedding date was only five days away! Unfortunately I was fully booked with appointments that day, so all I could offer was if I finished early with another appointment, she could come in between meaning it would be short notice. Luckily, she was fine with that! I did finish early with an appointment so Haervie quickly rushed over. She tried the dress on and fell in love. She didnt even need any time to think about it. It was almost a perfect fit - so much so that she could get away without any alterations and you couldnt even tell. She also grabbed one of my new stock veils The weather was perfect on Wednesday. You couldnt ask for any better Haervie sent through a couple of photos that I can share. I had a good time trimming out all the 3D lace for the dress, which I carefully placed in specific places. Just the lace on the bodice was adorned with Swarovski crystals for a touch of sparkle. 02.01.2022 Yesterday Andrea was married. Andrea came to see me about 2 months ago. She booked an appointment to try on my DWB sample sale dress "Marilyn". A 1920's vintag...e inspired, beaded Chantilly lace. She loved the dress and the good news was it only needed a few alterations to fit. I changed the back from a zip to a lace up, it needed a smidge taken in over the bust, the straps tightened and hem shortened. Two fittings and the Marilyn dress looked like it had been custom made for Andrea Whilst this lace is now discontinued, I have found a lace merchant that has one very similar but not beaded. 02.01.2022 Another calico, another custom couture bride! The calico stage is a very important part of having a wedding dress made. Every dress I make has a calico fitting... and it is included in the cost of your dress. Its where we make changes that cant be made once the actual fabric is cut. For example, you can see that this brides dress has an illusion back. If its too low, I will adjust it for the fabric. So with a calico dress you get to see a basic version of the dress silhouette. 02.01.2022 It has been so wonderful welcoming brides back to the studio over the last two weeks. Some were ongoing clients for fittings and others were first time visitors... who were trying on dresses with a few of these making a second appointment to try on again Unless you are 100% sure that a dress is the right dress for you, I dont believe in pressuring anyone to make a decision on the spot. If you love a particular dress and it is one that can not be ordered again, I will hold that dress for two days so you can sleep on it and make a decision (and it is much appreciated when brides let me know what their decision is, even when its a no). I also allow photos and when its a bling bling dress I insist that you take a video of yourself so you can see how much it sparkles Choosing your wedding dress should be a special time whether its custom made or ready made. I have been doing this my entire adult life (longer if you count making doll clothes ) and I still absolutely love it. Ive lost count of how many brides I have met and how many dresses I have made... which would be well over a thousand if I include the bridal houses I have worked for, but thats what happens when youve been doing something for 37 years!
