25.01.2022 One of the services we provide at the Hope Haven is our Foodbank cupboard. The precious women can gather food items as they are needed. The types of food that are available depend upon what is provided at Foodbank. This was a selection of items we bought in our last visit including vegemite, washing powder, baked beans and sanitizer. In a previous trip we had this little guy waiting for us at the car on our return!

23.01.2022 The amazing wisdom of Morgan Harper Nichols ring so true. May Faith and Boundless Hope find you.

22.01.2022 Yesterday at special request by our women, we had a budgeting workshop run by Danielle from Brilliant Budget. The ladies learnt heaps of tips on how to become more savvy with money. Danielle blessed the ladies with budgeting worksheets, pens and budget planners - complete with personalised stickers!

16.01.2022 In our recent sewing workshop we learnt how to make 3 ply face masks. The sewing machines whirred, the conversations shared, the decisions made on what the outer layer will be - "this will bring out the colour of my eyes," and "I love bunny rabbits". One Hope Chick was so inspired she was going to Spotlight afterwards. All in a morning's work and ta-da - face masks made!

14.01.2022 In August we held our first Capalaba Coffee Catchup outreach for those women who are unable to make it into the Haven. It was a delightful morning connecting with each other in beautiful surroundings.

13.01.2022 The GATHER Women at Rhema Family Church know how to gather - in person and on a practical level! Our community worker was invited to share about Hope Foundation at the GATHER Women's event on the 8th August. The generous GATHER ladies had gathered pamper products for the precious Hope Chicks and gathered to hear about the Hope we have in Christ. Thank you so much and bless you for your generosity GATHER women!

13.01.2022 Wishing you a beautiful Mother’s Day. You are Loved We are also thinking of those of you doing it hard. Love and Light to you.

13.01.2022 A gentle reminder this Wednesday :: You’ve got this because He’s got you. Now let’s go face the world!

12.01.2022 The lovely Danielle from Brilliant Budgets shared her wealth of knowledge with the Hope Chicks about budgeting at our recent workshop. Don't you love the title page of the presentation - "This Hope Chick Can Save"? Afterwards the Hope Chicks had burgers and chips from The LoveWell Project for lunch. It was a fabulous day.

12.01.2022 If you can help, please send us a DM. Thanks so much

11.01.2022 At special request by one of our women, Danielle from Brilliant Budgets came and ran a workshop on slashing credit card debt. It's always lovely having Danielle come and share her wealth of practical knowledge with us. The women were empowered to take control of their finances - so much so that they want to know more about budgeting as well. Thanks Danielle.

10.01.2022 The self-care and emotional regulation workshop run by the lovely Geraldine included sugar scrubs, sprays and bracelets using essential oils.

10.01.2022 This week at the Haven we started the Alpha course run by the lovely Bonnie and Heather. There was lots of discussion with questions asked and answered. Everyone enjoyed the morning as well as the yummy goodies Bonnie and Heather brought with them.

09.01.2022 Last minute change of plans for the Thursday workshop last week so we ended up doing an art project based on techniques from Deepak Art and Craft that one of the women had discovered. It took a bit longer than expected and we had to break for lunch. Techniques were copying, blending using oil pastel, masking using masking tape, mixed media and paint. Aren't they fabulous!

09.01.2022 We've been doing a few of "looking after ourselves" workshops lately. These have included relaxation, mindfulness, adult-colouring, self-care, emotional regulation and boundaries.

09.01.2022 One of our Hope women is about to rent her very first home alongside two of her children. She has walked an incredible journey and we are so very proud of her. We are looking for some generous people who would be prepared to sponsor her for the next 12 months or so, just to make that first home experience that little bit more enjoyable when the unexpected bills come in. Either as a one off donation or monthly sponsorship. If you are able to help in anyway, please email us at [email protected]

08.01.2022 This week one of our big-hearted women gifted the Hope Haven the delightful and inspirational coffee table book, "The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse" by Charles Mackesy. She described the book as one of her best friends that she wanted to share with everyone. We could see why as went around the room, randomly opened the book and shared the page with the group - the truths resonated with us and felt like hugs!

07.01.2022 It is only through the generous giving from our community donors and monthly Heart & Soul partners that we can reach so many women seeking freedom from addiction. Please support us through the giving platform: GIVENOW www.givenow.com.au/hopefoundationrisbane

05.01.2022 The Hope Haven re-opened two weeks ago for our group gatherings and face to face appointments with COVID-19 safety precautions in place. It has been so wonderful to have the Hope Chicks back onsite to see them in person, to hear their laughter, the exclamations of it’s so wonderful to see you to each other, of I’ve missed the Haven so much and hearing them exchange the wisdom and experience of their life stories with each other. During the COVID-19 Haven shut down perio...d, the community workers were supporting the Hope Chicks virtually by phonecalls, texts, conference calls, video app conferencing, contactless drop offs of food, blankets, pamper products and yes, even toilet paper when the panic buying shortage was occurring! It’s so good to have some normality back though we are missing hugging each other and have to settle for air hugs instead. See more

05.01.2022 Love and Joy to you this Friday and may the weekend bring you a breath of fresh air.

05.01.2022 In our recent creative workshops, we learnt how to finger knit and made finger knitted trivets. The wonderful thing about creativity is that one idea sparks another creative idea. This happened for one of our ladies and she made this finger knitted hanging. Her plan is to find some big glass balls to fit in the large spaces (reminiscent of glass buoys of old).

01.01.2022 You’ve done great these past few weeks! Together we’ve been able to feel our fear and support one another #togetherwecan

01.01.2022 A rare baby photo of baby me .. almost 3 and newly arrived in Australia with my very stylish dad at the Wacol Hostel where a plane load of Colombians arrived under the unskilled migrants scheme. They were given housing, child care, factory work and English classes as part of the resettlement package. My parents, the most courageous humans I know arrived alone with only hopes and dreams for a better future - no English, no money, no professional quals but a strong work ethic ...and grit. They weren’t without significant struggle and sacrifice. The beginning they gave my sister and I has opened countless opportunities - the best education (my sister and I are Masters qualified), amazing careers, growing up wanting for nothing, the opportunity to give our children what they need and more. Mama y Papa .. We Are Because You Are and I am forever grateful and in awe of your human spirits. Love. #todayiremember #family See more

01.01.2022 In a recent Tuesday gathering at the Haven we talked about the different perspectives or "lenses" that we look through to the world around us. This could be looking through lenses like hurt, fear, feeling unworthy and how that impacts relationships with others and ourselves. We wrote on the glasses those negative lenses that we were aware of and then crossed them out and wrote the opposite and positive lenses to view the world. To help recognize and overcome some of the negative "thought viruses", we also went through different cognitive behavioural techniques outlined in the book, "The Book of Knowing" by Dr Gwendoline Smith aka Dr Know. The Hope Chicks found it really helpful.
