24.01.2022 Glorious weather to start the season for our seniors yesterday, with wins to D2 Maroon ladies (on forfeit), D4 Blue men and D8 Men. All other teams had close and hard-fought matches, and will be better for the run after a very light pre-season. Bring on round 2 and round 1 for our juniors, and a reminder again next Saturday night is our Pizza/Welcome Night to officially kick off the season. We’ll also be belatedly presenting awards from last season, so be sure to come along (especially if you’re a prize recipient)!

24.01.2022 Hi All We have 5 of our senior teams playing in finals this Saturday afternoon from 1.00pm, and we are supremely confident of at least one win (in Division 4 men where our two teams are playing each other)! Div 3 Ladies are playing Noarlunga away (2nd vs 1st), with a double chance. Div 4 Ladies play Flagstaff Hill at Hope Ward (3rd vs 4th). Div 4 Men Maroon play Blue at Hope Ward (3rd vs 4th).... Div 5 Men Maroon play OHalloran Hill away (4th vs 3rd). Best of luck to all our players, and to our junior teams playing finals in the morning! See more

24.01.2022 AGM and Club Tournament finals day at Hope Ward. Congratulations to Madeline Hill, our newest Life Member!

22.01.2022 A beautiful day today at the annual Hope Ward Club Tournament! Dee, Carolyn, Madeline and Nadine are all smiles before their doubles match, Brad and Rory after their singles clash, while Ashleigh refuels for her next match with a healthy snack! Next Sunday morning all junior and senior event finals will be played, and our Annual General Meeting will be held at 12 noon. All welcome!

22.01.2022 Tennis can be a frustrating game, as Tony Hill demonstrates. He played much better when the cameras werent rolling!

19.01.2022 Hope Ward Presentation Night: Venue changed to Westbourne Park Uniting Church Hall, corner Monmouth Rd & Sussex Tce, Hawthorn due to the cold weather. See you there!

19.01.2022 2018/19 season off to a great start! 6 of our 7 senior teams posting a win for the opening week!!

16.01.2022 Thanks to everyone who attended our Fast4 Family Fun & Pizza night last night. There was plenty of fun had on the court, with several brave parents dusting off their racquets to join in and take on the youngsters, and some real potential displayed. Luckily there were no injuries that we know of, but we suspect some participants may have woken up this morning with a few sore spots! We were well fed with pizza from our new sponsors Hearts Pizzeria on Winston Avenue. Thanks to all who helped out on the night, and a special thanks to our wonderful secretary Madeline Hill for her efforts in promoting the event and organising the Fast4 tournament.

16.01.2022 Hi All, hope all our players enjoyed getting back on the court yesterday, despite the gale force winds! Heres young Adam in action for Div 5 Blue on his way to a hard-fought 9-8 win, secured on his fifth match point out on court 4. In this point, he smartly uses home court local knowledge to keep hitting it back until his opponent eventually falls into one of those enormous cracks!

16.01.2022 What a great captains knock from Div 4 Maroons James Brenner last Saturday, bringing it home for an epic 9-7 win in over 90 minutes. He had nothing left in the tank afterwards, too exhausted to even sign the scoresheet which unfortunately showed our lads going down by a single game!

16.01.2022 Two of Hope Wards Next Generation of young guns. No wonder the barbers of Adelaide are struggling to make a living!

15.01.2022 Greg showing the agility of a man half his age!

14.01.2022 Brad Venning and Matthew Chin are all smiles after another hard-fought Mens Championship Singles final in the annual Hope Ward club tournament. Perennial bridesmaid (his words, not mine!) Brad knocked off defending Champion Matthew in an entertaining contest played in very warm, steamy conditions. Brads name will now be immortalised in the annals of the Clubs history, along with names the likes of Sheridan, Degenhart and Murray. Im obviously delighted to have finally won it, said Brad. I never honestly thought it would happen. My goal has always been to equal Greg Sheridans formidable record as runner up the most number of times, but thats on hold for now.

14.01.2022 Men’s Singles Champion Brad Venning in action on the way to his hard-fought 9-6 win over Greg Sheridan.

13.01.2022 The aftermath of James huge efforts. This is what exhaustion looks like!

12.01.2022 Hi All Happy New Year to all our Hope Ward members! My new years resolution was to join Facebook, 20 years after everyone else did, so I can post updates on this page.... Hope everyone had a great Christmas and is enjoying the mid-season break before matches resume on 2 February. Most of our senior teams have been doing well and are either on track to play finals, or at least a good chance to do so. Both Div 4 Mens teams and Div 5 Blue appear finals-bound, while our Div 3 and 4 Ladies will challenge strongly for flags. Div 5 Maroon Men and Div 2 Ladies have struggled for their wins and suffered some heavy losses, but their enthusiasm remains undiminished, in true Hope Ward style. Our junior teams are also enjoying good seasons, and the girls are leading the way with both our Div 3 and Green Ball Girls in top spot. Of our eight Boys teams, five are in the top four (Divs 3, 5, 6, 8 and Green Ball 2), while Div 1 and Green Ball 1 are both in 5th spot ready to pounce on a finals berth at the first sign of weakness from a team above them. Most pleasingly however, all teams regardless of their ladder positions have competed well and have enjoyed some tough, close competition, which is what we all enjoy and like to see. Thats enough from me for now, but stay tuned for more updates as the season progresses as I take full advantage of the wonders of social media. If I become addicted and start posting photos of smashed avocado breakfasts and sunsets over the ocean, I authorise the site administrator to immediately "unfriend" me from this page! 12.01.2022 Thanks to the hard working volunteers who came out to our working bee today to give the courts and clubhouse a much-needed spruce up before the season resumes next Saturday. War was declared on weeds, leaves, loose shade cloth on the back stops, general grime and dirty windows. In fact the windows have been scrubbed so clean that you may well now have to wear sunglasses inside the clubhouse! As a reward for their efforts some of our volunteers were photographed performing these unglamorous tasks without their knowledge or consent, but its all for a bit of fun. The first person (who did not attend) who can name all five of those shown below will win a complimentary set of cleaning products to use at our next working bee!

11.01.2022 Hi All! A reminder this weekend is our PIZZA NITE + FAST4 FAMILY FUN NIGHT Saturday 2nd November 6pm... Dietary requirements ie: vegetarian, vegan, gluten free also required by 30th. RSVP to hopewardtc@gmail FAST4 FAQ What is Fast4 Family Fun Night? A social evening/event that welcomes all juniors, seniors, parents, siblings, friends and family to share the court for some fun, short format doubles (played under modified rules). This is a great opportunity to play alongside and mix with people from other areas of the club who you may not otherwise normally get the chance to meet. And if that hasnt convinced you, there is also the chance to win prizes! Do I need a partner or team to participate? No you dont! Doubles combinations will be randomly drawn at set intervals for rounds of short timed games, so you will get the chance to play with a range of different partners over the course of the evening. Do I need any tennis skill/experience? Of course not! All ages and skill levels are encouraged to participate. Just come along and bring a pair of sneakers and a racquet (or we can supply one if needed). Can I attend if I dont want to participate in the Fast4 event? Absolutely! 10.01.2022 Hi all members and families, tonight our association (SDTA) met and decided to err on the side of caution by cancelling all Junior and Senior finals and Junior Orange Ball competitions. I have attached advice below from Tennis Australia to outline their reasons. In effect teams already through to the Grand Final from Saturday are declared Premiers. Nominations for winter tennis are still proceeding however the season may be postponed. More news to come at a later date. Hope ...Wards Presentation of trophies will still proceed on Sunday 29th March at 11am (no hand shaking and keeping 1.5 m social distancing will be practiced). We are cancelling our Presentation Brunch and all payments will be refunded. More club news will emailed out on Friday. 08.01.2022 Hi All! It may feel like winter, but the summer season kicks off for seniors on 10 October, so it’s just around the corner. We are fielding a D1 and two D2 Ladies teams, two D4, two D5 and a D8 men’s teams plus a Mixed Doubles team. We are a bit light on for full time ladies, so if you are reading this and know if anyone who may be interested in filling in during the season, please let us know! Looking forward to kicking off, and to our Pizza and 2019/20 Presentation Night on... 17 October. See more

08.01.2022 Hi All Hope Ward members and associates! The senior season kicked off last weekend with wins to D4 Maroon men, D8 men and D2 Maroon ladies, and very narrow losses to D4 Blue men (4 games), D3 ladies (2 games) and our newly-minted Mixed Doubles team (9 games). Unfortunately our D2 Blue ladies team had to forfeit due to multiple unavailabilities, but all players have now been put on notice that no further excuses will be accepted for not playing (short of amputation of a limb)...! This week is exciting as our junior teams hit the court (and hopefully a few balls) for round 1 of their season. With seven boys teams, three girls teams and two Orange Ball teams, we are unleashing a veritable army of young talent into the competition to battle it out. We wish the very best of luck to all our teams and their supporters for a fun and successful first match, and season! See more

08.01.2022 It’s Christmas at Ho-Ho-Hope Ward, which means only one thing: a visit from the World’s Dodgiest Santa! Great fun for young and old alike as the big man delved deep into his magic sack of Yuletide cheer! A very Merry Christmas to All!

07.01.2022 Check out our new rows of bench seats between courts 2 and 3 (for player use only). A big THANK YOU to our eagle-eyed committee member Nadine Venning, who is always on the lookout for a bargain and spotted these for sale on Gumtree for a never-to-be-repeated price. Not only can our players have a comfortable sit-down in the shade during changes of end, but the airport departure lounge style of the seating means they can now also enjoy that sense of anticipation you feel when going away on a holiday! Great work Nadine!

07.01.2022 Congratulations to our 2018/19 junior premiership teams, the Green Ball Girls and Div 3 Boys (Hope Ward/Goodwood), both pictured. Commiserations to runners up the junior Green Ball Boys, and senior teams Ladies Div 4 and Mens Div 4 Maroon. All had great seasons and were gallant in defeat.
