16.01.2022 One of the most important signs in the country that you really need to read and take heed. When travelling around this great land of ours, you will often see th...is sign. Please slow down when you see this sign and take a look around. Quite often the mob (sheep or cattle) will be visible, but often the stock might be coming out of a concealed gateway. The last thing anyone needs is a busted up car and dead stock. And dont forget the faithful work dog, going about his business keeping the mob together, quite often we hear of drovers and stockmans dogs being killed because drivers have not obeyed the signs and slowed down. As farmers we would much prefer not to drive our stock on the road, its a hassle, the risk is high and our animals are precious and if we could avoid it we would, (trust me!). So just a heads up, if you come across a mob, slow down (like walking pace), stay to the left and allow the stock to flow around your vehicle, (if they are coming towards you). DONT PANIC and look to the farmer or stockman for any guidance. And dont toot your horn! It stirs the stock up and makes them jumpy as hell to handle, or they may start chasing you thinking they will be fed!!. (Well ours do anyway). So next time you are you are cruising around country roads looking for that little antique shop or that delectable cellar door or you are just passing through, just remember this post and my instructions!
