25.01.2022 This Friday, the 14th of August, is Red Nose Day. Here at Hopscotch we are getting ready to get silly for a serious cause. We invite all of our families attending on this day to come to Hopscotch in their very best red clothing, supporting us to raise awareness for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).

24.01.2022 On the 11th hour on the 11th day on the 11th month, the Hopscotch children and staff had a minutes silence dedicated to those who protected our nation. The Last Post was played as we participated in this important moment.

23.01.2022 *** FLOOD ALERT*** Dear Families, Our service is currently acting upon our emergency response plan and we are moving through the steps within our FLOOD risk and response assessment. ... The Bureau of Meteorology has issues a flood warning for the Mid North Coast affecting many of our local water catchment areas and roads. It is predicted that some of the access roads to our service may be cut off due to rising flood water. We urge that if you can collect your child early, you do so to avoid any risks of not being able to collect your child. Our service facilities are not currently affected by flood water and all children are safe, however we do want to avoid families taking unnecessary risks of driving through flood water because their child is in our care. We urge families to monitor the current weather conditions through the Live Traffic NSW app or website. https://www.livetraffic.com/in... to ensure they are up to date with current road closures. If you have any concerns please contact us on 02 66531100. We have attached an image of the possible flood locations that may affect you accessing our service. Carolyn Shortt Centre Director

23.01.2022 On Friday afternoon it started to hail at Hopscotch. The children were so intrigued watching safely under the verandah or from the classroom windows. After the hail stopped we were able to collect some and explore it a little closer. It was an exciting afternoon!

22.01.2022 We are excited to be participating in National Pyjama Day next Friday the 17th of July. Don't forget to come to Hopscotch all warm in your pyjamas to help us raise awareness for children in foster care.

22.01.2022 Hi families. At Hopscotch we are passionate about supporting our local businesses. Here is a fantastic deal that all of our families can utilise! Just head on into the Butterfly House and grab your annual pass for the price of 50% admission.

19.01.2022 At Hopscotch we believe in embedding and celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture in ways that are meaningful to us and our local community. This week we embedded this culture into our programs stemming from NAIDOC 2020. The educators respectfully introduced and re-visited aspects of Indigenous culture such as bush tucker, story sharing, connecting to country, and evaluating significant symbols and colours. Each of these experiences supported the children to enhance their understanding and develop an appreciation of our rich Indigenous background. We acknowledge the Gumbaynggirr People as the Traditional Owners of the land on which we live, work and play.

18.01.2022 Sometimes we have to have a little laugh about 2020. ****Don’t forget if your child’s unwell they can not attend until they are well again and have a medical clearance from the GP or pharmacy.****

17.01.2022 We invite all of our Hopscotch families to help us participate in National Superhero Week, raising awareness for Muscular Dystrophy. Starting on Monday October the 12th, we look forward to seeing all of our very own little superhero’s coming to daycare dressed up in their costumes and capes.

16.01.2022 Happy Educators Day! Thank you to all of our wonderful families for adding some very special words to our thank you wall. All of the educators at Hopscotch love coming in to work each day to see you and your little ones. This area will be available for all families to utilise throughout the rest of the week. We were very spoilt today with a surprise lunch platter from Red Rooster, organised by our fantastic owner Kate and director Gayle.... Thank you to everyone for sharing this day with us!

15.01.2022 Behold the mighty force of great minds working together One morning this week some of our Junior Preschool children decided to turn an empty container into a vehicle! They worked together to get their vehicle moving - beginning to cooperate without needing to say a word to each other. From their hard work the vehicle made its way across the yard and through the tunnel! At Hopscotch we foster the development of teamwork, collaboration and positive interactions between all children. These are important social skills to develop that will help with building strong relationships in later years of life.

15.01.2022 Some of our Preschool children asked if they could help pat their younger friend to sleep today. They were so proud to be big, kind helpers. This is a great example of Albert Bandura’s Social Cognitive Theory, in which he explains that learning occurs through watching others actions and then repeating them. Our Preschool children have often observed their educators caring for sleeping children by sitting with them to support them to sleep, and were able to recreate this themselves. It is fantastic to see our educators are role modelling nurturing practices for our children to learn from.

14.01.2022 From all of us here at Hopscotch, we would like to say a huge thank you to one of our lovely families who delivered us the most beautiful bouquet of flowers and chocolates. We know that we have one of the best communities at Hopscotch, and we adore each and every one of our families and children.

14.01.2022 Everyone at Hopscotch were so excited to receive some NEW TOYS! Of course, we had to try them out straight away and they got the tick of approval from the Junior Preschool and Preschool children. Hooray!

14.01.2022 Friday Wrap Up! What have we been learning this week? In the Nursery, the children have been excitedly exploring their new soft space. They love the sensory ribbons and practicing climbing in a safe environment. In the Toddler room the children have continued their interest in airplanes. They have been able to explore airplanes through creative play and dramatic play. ... The Junior room has been very busy being doctors and nurses, making sure they look after all of their sick friends and educators. In the Junior Preschool room, educators followed on from some family input and set up a fishing experience during group times. Each child concentrated and watched where their fishing rod was going. Everyone celebrated together whenever a fish was caught! It was one of our Preschool friends birthday this week so it’s was time to make a cake and celebrate. The Preschool children enjoyed this so much that they continued to make cakes for their friends throughout the week using lots of play areas such as the sandpit and the play dough table. I wonder what we will learn next week?

13.01.2022 The Hopscotch children have been on a beautiful learning journey as they helped to incubate chicken eggs and explore how a chicken grows in an egg. Last week our little chickens finally hatched and we got to meet them up close. All of the children have been so gentle and kind, wanting to make sure our little chicks are safe and cared for. What do you think we should name our two chicks?

12.01.2022 Today Hopscotch celebrated Red Nose Day Red Nose Day is supporting the extremely important research that goes towards SIDS. We are promoting safe sleep methods for all children from birth to 2 years. We raised awareness throughout the day by exploring everything RED! ... The Nursery and Toddler children put on their very own red noses and dove into a red sensory experience feeling jelly and cereal. The Juniors also wore red noses and reflected this by making biscuits with red noses and eyes - delicious! The Junior Preschool explored how they could dye apples red before making red fruit skewers and blending up red foods to make a healthy juice. The Preschool children helped to create a big red fruit platter and were very excited to try all of the foods as they sat down for a picnic together.

12.01.2022 The power of safe-risk play! Allowing children to engage in safe risk play develops their self-confidence, resilience and risk-management skills. Through appropriate risk taking, children quickly learn how their bodies work and what they are capable of achieving! Some of our Hopscotch children were doing just that as they took turns to line up and carefully jump off the raised beam onto the soft block. Each child cheered for their friends as they went. So much fun!

12.01.2022 One, two, three chefs in the kitchen The children in the Preschool room love to participate in cooking experiences with their educators, so it’s no surprise that they also love to pretend to cook in their own little kitchen. Cakes, pizza, fruit salad - what will they create next? Whenever children say Let’s Pretend a new landscape of possibilities for learning is revealed. When children pretend they try on new feelings, roles and ideas. They stretch their minds along with their imaginations - Curtis & Carter

10.01.2022 It was a beautiful day for the Nursery children to head out to the park on an excursion. The Nursery children have been becoming increasingly confident in their climbing and balancing skills, so the educators planned a play at the park to help continue to develop these skills. Each of the children had a fantastic time, which we could see through the big smiles on their faces.

10.01.2022 Today we are experiencing a power outage. This is something that is being worked on by essential energy. This is also affecting our phone lines. If you need to contact us please contact us on 0434121662.

10.01.2022 Ready, Set, GO! This morning some of our Junior children participated in our very first Hopscotch sack race! They lined up at the starting line, giggling and ready to begin. When their educator called "go", they were off! They used all their might to jump forward all the way to the finish line. Everyone cheered and clapped as the race finished and of course, they moved back to the starting line to do it all again. What a morning of excitement. We are all winners!

09.01.2022 International Mud Day! Today Hopscotch participated in International Mud Day, exploring dirt that was wet and dry in many different ways throughout the day. Mud connects children directly with nature, plants and the living creatures that inhibit that world, and supports children to be more curious about the world. Mud also provides the opportunity to learn through sensory stimulation and provide the understand that materials can be used for many creative purposes. ... It is so much fun getting muddy!

09.01.2022 Some of our Hopscotch friends have been visiting zoos recently so educator Suzie decided to set up her own zoo in the Junior room. The children have had so much fun exploring all of the different types of animals in their zoo and exploring how they live, eat and sound.

08.01.2022 We found a frog! The children at Hopscotch have been so excited to observe and learn about the frog we found in the Junior yard. We placed the frog in a bug catcher educator Suzie had and allowed the children in each room to take a closer look. We spoke about what frogs ate, where they lived and of course there was lots of squeals and laughter each time the frog jumped. Afterwards educator Tiffany found a safe space to let our frog friend go. Thanks for visiting Hopscotch Mr Frog!

08.01.2022 National Reconciliation Week is a time to reflect on our shared histories and cultures, and explore how we can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. Here at Hopscotch we used the week from the 27th of May to the 3rd of June to continue our journey of exploring and understanding Indigenous culture. The educators provided opportunities for all children to learn about the significant of Aboriginal colours, explore Indigenous symbols, move to music by Indigenous artists and use Indigenous musical instruments such as clap sticks. Hopscotch acknowledges the service is operated on the Traditional land of the Gumbaynggirr people. We acknowledge the resilience and strength of the custodians of the land and pay respect to the Elders, past, present and future.

04.01.2022 Earlier in the month we celebrated Dental Health Week and many of the children have had an ongoing interest in teeth and dental hygiene. The educators from the Toddler, Junior, Junior Pre and Preschool rooms have set up environments and experiences to further explore this interest. Today we had the lovely ladies (and tooth fairy) from Fresh Dental Care come into the centre to talk with the Junior Pre and Preschool children about how to care for their teeth and what happens when they visit the dentist. It is important to teach young children about dental hygiene to support building positive dental habits for life!

03.01.2022 As part of NAIDOC 2020, many of the educators have begun to embed the Acknowledgement of Country into their group time each day. This is just one of the ways we celebrate and acknowledge the traditional custodians of our land.
