25.01.2022 Today the Australian Renewable Energy Agency announced $2.6 million in funding to support the construction of Denham’s future hydrogen demonstration plant. Construction will commence August 2021, and when operational the demonstration plant will generate the equivalent energy required to power up to 100 residential houses in Denham. This funding is in addition to $5.7 million being provided by the WA Government as part of its Recovery Plan, which includes $1 million from the Western Australian Renewable Hydrogen Fund. 25.01.2022 Last week the Premier announced a $21 million investment in renewable energy projects across the Kimberley which will improve power quality, reliability and services to customers in the region. Broome and Yungngora will benefit from battery energy storage systems which will allow more customers in the future to install, connect and enjoy the long-term benefits and savings of rooftop solar. $5.2 million has also been allocated to new renewable energy solutions for the Shire of Derby and Derby Hospital. 24.01.2022 Horizon Power is proud to partner with the Department of Education to deliver the $5 million Solar Schools program which will provide rooftop solar systems to 30 regional public schools throughout WA. Launched today by Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery at Port Hedland Primary School, the program will create approximately 12 new jobs across regional WA during construction, and facilitate two new Aboriginal electrical apprenticeships. 18.01.2022 As part of our community partnership with Kununurra Scouts, they recently joined in a cultural tour with Waringarri Aboriginal Arts in Mirima National Park. This was an opportunity for the Scouts to participate and learn about the significance of the National Park to the Mirriwoong people and be educated on their culture, learn about bush tucker and see some rock art.

This will include a Customer Experience Centre in the heart of Broome, scheduled to open in November. 05.01.2022 Horizon Power hosted an Open House at the Esperance Civic Centre on 11 September to share with the local community about the Esperance Power Project. The event was well attended, with community members excited to see Esperance transitioning to a new power solution comprising of almost 50% renewable energy. This will see Esperance host the largest solar farm in Horizon Power’s service area, as well as two state of the art wind turbines, located at Shark Lake. A gas power station with a centralised battery will complete the solution. The result will be a 50% reduction in carbon emissions, which is the equivalent of removing 6,458 cars off the road. As part of our Goldfields and Esperance tour, Kidsafe WA recently told students from Norseman DHS about keeping safe when using electricity in the home with tips such as: Turn off appliances that are not in use and before removing its plug from a power point. 03.01.2022 At a recent Shire of Broome’s Heads of Department meeting, we showed off our new 100% electric Hyundai Kona. Attendees were very impressed with the car’s safety features and that it’s helping to reduce harmful air pollution to make the environment ‘cleaner & greener’. Shane Hills, Regional Manager Department of Communities, took the EV for a test drive, explaining the EV is ‘very quiet, smooth and nice to drive’. 03.01.2022 Our Esperance crews will be undertaking essential maintenance works in the Pink Lake area, which includes Barook Road, Eleven Mile Beach Road, Canning and Helms Drive, Dunkley Circuit, Kingsmill Retreat, Mississippi Bend, Sanctuary Cresent, The Getaway, Tuart Forest Grove and Esperance Borefields. Work is scheduled to take place between 1-17 September and multiple planned power outages will be required in order for the crew to safely complete this work. 01.01.2022 Site works are currently occurring within the Karratha hills and along the Dampier highway for the upgrade of Horizon Powers Karratha to Dampier transmission line. High volumes of operational traffic will be present along the Dampier highway between Gap Ridge Estate and the Dampier and Burrup Road intersection, particularly around the causeway area. There will be traffic management restrictions in place at times to ensure the safety of project personnel, pedestrians, cyclists and motorists.
