23.01.2022 URGENT MEMO RE: 2020 NYC Touch Football Australia (TFA) have this evening released a memo in relation to a date change for the 2020 National Youth Championships (NYC) event. The 2020 NYC event was originally scheduled to be held from Wednesday 16 September 2020 until Saturday 19 September 2020. The memo from TFA released this evening reads as follows:... In the weeks following the advertisement of dates and format for the National Youth Championships, Queensland schools have commenced placing exam blocks for Year 10, 11 and 12 students. Unfortunately, these exam blocks clash with the proposed dates which has a significant impact on QTF region’s capacity to field teams in Under 16s and Under 18s boys and girls divisions. Clearly, this puts pressure on the viability of these divisions and the event as a whole. Therefore, and following consultations with stakeholders including participating entities, Sunshine Coast Stadium and Council, TFA has decided to move the event out of the school term and into school holidays. The Championships will now be held between Wednesday 30 September 2020 and Saturday 3 October 2020. We understand the challenges and impact that this decision may have on entities and their teams, particularly as the new date clashes with other major sport events in some states. To offset the burden on entities impacted by these new clashes, TFA has agreed to increase the number of players permitted in Under 16s squads from 14 players to 16 bringing it in line with the Under 18s divisions. Our region is sure many of you are understandably frustrated by this change. As an initial action, we are asking that any Hornets participants (players, coaching staff or referees) cease making any travel and/or accommodation arrangements for the event dates which were originally scheduled. Any participants who have made travel and/or accommodation arrangements, we ask that you proceed with activating any cancellation or refunds (as Hornets encouraged all to do in our previous communications) for these bookings. Our regional committee are currently in discussions about our commitment to the 2020 National Youth Championships event, given the changes which have taken place. We will be in contact with all players, coaching staff and referees within the next 24 hours with further information. We wish to thank all our participants for their patience and understanding at this time, and we wish to ensure our members that this decision has been made completely out of our control and opposed to our recommendations to TFA. Should you have any queries, please don’t hesitate to contact me by email [email protected].
