25.01.2022 Happy Chinese New Year to all of our patients and their families
22.01.2022 Dear parents and patients, We are updating our page to let you know that we are taking the COVID-19 virus very seriously and are following the recommendations of NSW Health and the Australian Dental Association. As in normal times we are closely adhering to the guidelines for sterilisation and cross infection control. At this time our practice will remain open to meet the needs of our patients. However, we will be taking the following actions to minimise the risk associated ...with the virus: Please do not keep your scheduled appointment if you or a family member are sick, or have had a cough or fever in the last 48 hours or have travelled internationally in the past 14 days. We ask that you kindly call and reschedule your appointment. We are trying to limit the numbers of people coming through the office to one carer per child. If you feel comfortable, please have your child come into the practice alone. Please do not bring children without appointments into the practice. We will only have 4 patients (+ one carer each) in the waiting room at any time and ask that you spread out at least 1.5m away from other patients. We are fortunate to have a large waiting room where patients can spread out in order to minimise contact Please do not arrive ahead of your scheduled appointment time, we may have to ask you to pass the time outside until we phone you to come directly back. We will direct you and your child into the handwashing bay immediately upon your arrival to wash your hands with soap and water (More effective than alcohol rub) We have removed magazines and toys from the waiting room. If you are having any orthodontic concerns, we will be happy to address them by email (please send a photo) or over the phone. We appreciate your understanding during this very challenging time and are grateful to our patients for helping us take precautions. Please know that we will continue to monitor developments and will communicate with you as necessary. Thank you for your help and understanding. Sincerely, Dr Jean Brennan Dr Peter Lewis and the team at HORNSBY ORTHODONTICS
21.01.2022 Our online clinic has been working really well and it has been great to check in with many of you already. Everyone seems to be making a great effort with their brushing and looking after their appliances. We have noticed that if your internet connection is slow then the quality of the image and the audio has been poor. In these cases we have asked patients to take some 'teeth-selfies' and email them to us at [email protected] so the assessment can be completed. If you are asked to take these photos please follow these instructions -Good luck trying not to laugh with those spoons in!
21.01.2022 Dear patients, parents and carers, We want to update you on our ongoing response to the COVID crisis to continue to keep you and our staff safe. As you are aware, community transmission is increasing in NSW and our orthodontic colleagues in Melbourne are under total lock down and unable to see their patients.... We have been operating and continue to operate under Level 1 restrictions advised by the Australian Dental Association. These restrictions include; *Removing all reading material and toys from the waiting room to minimise touching and contact. *Plastic seats are wiped throughout the day *The front door is permanently open to avoid unnecessary contact. *Tooth brushing and mouth rinsing have been suspended. *Our clinical staff are continually masked when closer than 1.5m to each other or patients *Dr Brennan and appropriate team members will be wearing face shields in addition to being masked for treatment *Temperature checks are taken on all staff twice per day * Temperature checks and pre-procedural antiviral mouthwash are routine for all patients who are undergoing longer procedures such as braces on and braces off Whilst we can continue to treat current patients and assess new patients under Level 1 restrictions we do need your help and understanding to reduce the risk of transmission. 1. Do NOT attend the practice if you or anyone in your immediate family are unwell OR AWAITING COVID TEST RESULTS. Please ring and reappoint 2. Please reappoint if you have visited a NSW HOTSPOT (https://www.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/find-facts-about-covid-19 ) or have returned from Victoria in the last 14 days 3. Please do not arrive early. There is a limited number of distanced seating available 4. Please sit closely with your child but ensure that you are at least 1.5m away from the next family group 5. One parent/carer per child patient only 6. No siblings should attend. Please bring your child to reception and wait outside with other children. We will bring your child out to you and update you on their progress 7. The parent/carer and patient must both wash their hands upon arrival 8. Only patients are permitted in the treatment room. Updates will be provided when the patient is finished. 9. You may notice some parents/carers asked down to the clinic with their child. These are very specific appointments where informed consent and treatment planning are being discussed. If you wish to personally discuss something with the orthodontist then let the front desk team know upon arrival 10. Please do not ‘walk-in’ without an appointment. We are always happy to see you to make an appliance comfortable but we need to ensure that we are not exceeding the safe numbers allowed. Please contact the practice and we will advise a time. Thank you for your understanding and if you have any concerns or questions please let us know.

16.01.2022 Dear parents and patients, We are facing an unprecedented health crisis and are monitoring the changes to government advice regularly. We are also closely following the experience of our colleagues overseas and as a result we have decided to defer appointments for all patients who are currently NOT in active treatment. If you fall into that category and you have a scheduled appointment in the next month you will be contacted by our team to let you know that your appointment has been deferred. We will be back in touch with you once the situation improves. In the meantime please reach out to us via phone 9987 2211 or email [email protected] if you require any more information or advice. We thank you for your understanding as we aim to keep our patients, community, staff and families healthy.

11.01.2022 VIRTUAL CONSULTATIONS In response to the recommendations from the Australian Dental Association and the Australian Society of Orthodontists all of our scheduled New Patient consultations have been deferred. We are in the process of contacting those patients with appointments to discuss options. One option for assessment is video calling. Dr Brennan is offering all New Patients a virtual consult using WhatsApp video calls. How it works: 1. You will need to have had the screen...ing X-rays taken at PRP (or emailed by your dentist) which we will have access to. 2. Follow our instructions to take photos of your child 3. Email the info through to us and we will schedule a virtual consult with Dr Brennan where she will triage your issues in a safe environment. Please let us know if this is an option you wish to explore and the team will email you through more details.

Spare wax is available on the door of the practice or if you are in desperate need you can chew sugar free gum and press this around the area... 2. If you have an issue with your appliance which cannot wait please attend the practice at 9am on Fri 27/12 or 9am on Thursday 2/1. 3. If you suffer a traumatic injury to your face or mouth or experience something which cannot wait please seek assistance from an emergency dentist 4.You can also take a picture and email us for advice at [email protected] Wishing all our lovely patients and their families a very merry Christmas
06.01.2022 We are still experiencing the effects of the weekend weather and currently (Monday 10/2) do not have phone or internet services. We will update the page when services resume . The practice is open and you can pop in to make or change appointments
05.01.2022 In compliance with government directive (AHPCC), and direct advice from the Australian Dental Association and the Australian Society of Orthodontists Hornsby Orthodontics has temporarily closed. We have members of our team taking phone calls (9987 2211) and responding to your emails Monday- Friday at [email protected] Every one of our patients in active treatment will receive a detailed email within 24 hours outlining the extensive measures we have put in plac...e to 1) continue to actively monitor and engage with our patients in treatment and 2) trouble shoot common issues that can occur with appliances. IF YOU DO NOT RECEIVE THE EMAIL PLEASE CONTACT US on [email protected] Dr Brennan will ‘see’ all active treatment patients during the shut down using a telemedicine website. These appointments will be at their currently allocated time and day. Details of how this works are in the email from the practice . In this way we will be able to monitor all treatment and appliances and advise of any changes where necessary. Fortunately orthodontic treatment intervals are between 8-12 weeks and in fact, treatment can progress well without a specific visit to your specialist for even longer than that. We cannot stress enough how important it is that you continue to maintain excellent and regular tooth brushing, a low sugar diet and avoid breaking your appliances in order to prevent problems and promote efficient tooth movement. If you have any questions or issues please do not visit the practice. Email a photo of the problem to: [email protected] We understand that these are very challenging times and whilst we cannot physically see you please know that you are not alone and we are here to offer advice and do our very best with the limitations we are under. Indications are that the close down period for our profession will be reviewed in 4 weeks and we will continue to update you as information becomes available. We thank all of you for your understanding and support as we continue to do our best to reduce the spread of this virus and keep you, our community and our families safe and healthy. Looking forward to seeing you all on the other side and via video in between times. Dr Jean and the team at Hornsby Orthodontics
