25.01.2022 Today we had 9 members working with Brooklyn Rural Fire Brigade, Dangar Island Rural Fire Brigade and a number of other brigades from the district, the Hills and NPWS, at a bushfire that started this morning as a result of a lightening strike. Hard work meant we were able to contain the fire which will be further monitored tomorrow. Access was by boat only and involved plenty of dry fire fighting with McLeod tools and blowers.

25.01.2022 For your information, the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service together with the NSW Rural Fire Service intends to conduct a 760ha hazard reduction burn in the Layburys Creek area of Marramarra National Park, between Canoelands Rd Canoelands and Singleton Rd Singletons Mill refer to attached overview map. This burn is currently scheduled for Wednesday 13th Friday 15th May 2020. Scheduling of the burn is dependant of weather conditions and may be rescheduled if conditions are not favourable. For more information please contact the NPWS North Western Sydney Area office on ph: 8448 0400 or [email protected]

25.01.2022 Both our Hornsby 1 and Hornsby 7 trucks are currently out in the Gordon, Pymble and Killara suburbs assisting with storm damage. One of our jobs included a large tree blocking a driveway. Whilst we don't carry the equipment required to completely remove the tree we were able to clear a walkway for the residents.

24.01.2022 Both our trucks spent Sunday and Monday assisting NSW SES with storm damage across the Hornsby Shire. Our crews quickly cleared what they could however a lot of jobs were complex and slow due to the involvement of power lines.

23.01.2022 A total fire ban will be in place for Greater Sydney Region tomorrow (Sunday 29/11/20), which covers our locally area. This is along with a number of other areas. Follow NSW Rural Fire Service to stay up to date. It is now time to prepare your property, and review your bushfire survival plan, and download the Fires Near Me App.

21.01.2022 Today is International Women's Day! We'd like to recognise and celebrate our amazing female firefighters, not only today but every other day! #iwd2020 #nswrfs #iwd

21.01.2022 Yesterday we visited Bird House Early Learning Centre to talk about firefighting. A great time was had by all the children as we showed them our gear and equipment and gave them a go on the hose!

19.01.2022 Our brigade has been kept very busy the past week working at the Gospers Mountain bushfire in Wollemi National Park. We've had crews out around the clock putting in backburns and protecting property in an effort to contain what is now a 185,980 ha fire!

19.01.2022 On Sunday afternoon our brigade worked alongside NSW Ambulance, Galston Rural Fire Brigade, Hornsby Heights Rural Fire Brigade, Fire and Rescue NSW Station 075 Berowra and Kuring Gai Police Area Command to help extricate a patient who had suffered an ankle injury in Galston Gorge. The steep terrain and long distance made it a challenging operation, but good teamwork from all ensured the patient was out before dark!

19.01.2022 An extremely busy day yesterday for all fire services across NSW! Four of our members crewed Hornsby 7 where they spent the day conducting property protection in Mangrove Mountain. At the same time one of our members was part of a composite crew on Hornsby Heights Rural Fire Brigade who were operating in the Central Coast. Later in the afternoon Hornsby 1 was deployed with a crew of 5 to Colo Heights for property protection after the Gospers Mountain fire breached containment... lines and started to threaten properties in the area. Additionally one of our other members, through the RFS, was part of a search and rescue helicopter flying amongst the fires on the Central Coast and along the way captured some aerial photos of the fires in the area.

18.01.2022 Last Sunday one of our members returned from a 5 day strike team in southern NSW, which consisted of fire trucks from both the Hornsby and Hills districts One of the busier days involved property protection in the town of Wyndham, which was in the path of the Big Jack Mountain bushfire.

18.01.2022 It has been a busy couple of weeks for the Brigade, especially yesterday with 2 crew on RART (Rapid Aerial Response Team), 4 crew at the Gospers Mountain Fire and then 2 trucks with 8 crew for storm damage into the evening. RART involves attending remote fires, typically lightening strikes with a helicopter. Our Captain and Deputy Captain worked in the Yengo national park and had to seek refuge a number of times as heavy storms (with lightening) moved through the area. Unfortunately these lighting strikes have started more fires. There is plenty work to be done over the coming weeks, unless we received significant rain. Stay up to date with the 'Fires Near Me' App.

17.01.2022 Thank you Shane for all your work! We will miss you!

16.01.2022 From all of us at Hornsby Rural Fire Brigade we wish you a safe and Merry Christmas!!!

14.01.2022 Hornsby Brigade is over 40 shifts in to the local fire season and the effort looks like it will continue for some time. Yesterday we undertook property protection in Kurrajong Heights before being sent down to Bilpin. Unfortunately a number of out buildings and structures were lost, but also a number saved. We are sad to have seen Tutti Fruitti lost, as some of our members visited there for coffee when on trips in the mountains. Today we are down near Hilltop, with a replacement crew heading out tonight and tomorrow.

13.01.2022 Hornsby 1 and Hornsby 7 are out with the rest of the district assisting with storm damage jobs. Please be mindful as there are plenty of emergency vehicles operating in the area. Pictured here is a job we attended involving a tree down across all lanes on the Pacific Highway at Asquith.

12.01.2022 From all of us at Hornsby Rural Fire Brigade, Happy New Year! The past year has thrown challenges at all of us in one way or another so here's to a brighter 2021!

12.01.2022 A hazard reduction is being conducted this weekend which will be visible from the Hornsby / Hornsby Heights area.

10.01.2022 They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them.... Lest We Forget.

06.01.2022 We'd like to thank Amy and her staff from the Wise Monkey Cafe for their generous hospitality! Always makes us feel welcome when we drop by for a coffee!

05.01.2022 There are currently a number of fires burning at a ‘Watch and Act’ level around Sydney (yellow diamond). Smoke from these can be seen on the BOM radar. Cold ash is falling through Mt Colah, Asquith and Hornsby due to the wind direction. This is no cause for immediate alarm, but a timely reminder to prepare yourself and your property. It goes to show, that with the recent rain events, the bush is still very dry. Strong winds are forecast for tomorrow (Monday) which, despite cooler conditions may see these fires spread quickly. Stay up to date with the ‘Fires Near Me’ app.

04.01.2022 Busy day for the brigade! Today Hornsby 7 was pre-deployed to Yass at 0500hrs, before being responded to Bredbo (near Cooma) for the Good Good Fire near Jerangle. We did some property protection, direct attack and backburning. Hornsby 1 was also responded to Nowra at 1700hrs. The fires today went pyrocumulous and generated their own thunderstorms. The pictures attached show the amount of smoke generated resulting in quite a dark fireground in the early afternoon.

03.01.2022 Just before midnight yesterday we responded with Killara and Ku-Ring-Gai brigades to a small bushfire behind Darnley Oval. Once units arrived on scene the fire was contained and extinguished.

03.01.2022 Today we celebrate International Women's Day, and especially all those in our brigade! Whether they're on the front line as firefighters or providing vital assistance behind the scenes we celebrate the key roles they play in our organisation!

02.01.2022 Hornsby brigade is currently assisting with a hazard reduction in Westleigh. Currently we have both our trucks assisting along with a number of other brigades from Hornsby/Ku-ring-gai Rural Fire Service. Stay up to date with the Fires Near Me app.

02.01.2022 Yesterday we joined a number of other Brigades at the Three Mile Fire just to the north of our district. The smoke and glow from this fire is now visible from our local area. Now is a good time to ensure that you and your property are prepared. The local commitment will continue to this fire for the foreseeable future.

02.01.2022 From all our volunteers at Hornsby RFB, we wish you all a very Merry Christmas!!!
