19.01.2022 Hello to all the beautiful people who have donated, are going to donate, have left messages of support or who are reading my update. I'm sorry to have to share with you that my news for this post is not good. I am now very sick and in hospital. It looks likely I will not leave - not until the end. My last round of chemo, which was brutal and made me very, very sick has not worked and my cancer is raging out of control. The medicos are tinkering with a pharmacy of drugs to hel...p alleviate the pain, nausea and other symptoms I am fighting daily. I am now very frail and unable to look after myself which is why I wanted to share with you photos of some of the people whose support has ensured that I have not travelled this road alone and have felt safe and cared for. The first photo is of my sister, Julie, who has been with me and looked after me for months and months. Her love and around the clock care has made me feel safe, protected. There are no words to adequately tell her how much I love her and how grateful I am but she knows. Also in this photo is my dear friend Scott Staples who has been there for me in every way, helping me and helping Julie in endless practical ways too numerous to mention. I love him dearly and am so grateful for his loyal ty, kindess and generosity of spirit. He's a wonderful friend. The same is the case with my dear friends Marlene (2nd photo) and Gisela (3rd photo); two giving, thoughtful and selfless people who helped me without question in every way they could. My father, Kerry Hickson and step-mother, Jan Thompson have been been there for me all the way through this journey giving me all the support they can under very difficult circumstances they are going through themselves. I love them for that and am grateful. Whilst it's looking like I may not make it out alive (no one does in the end though - do they) I appeal to you to please continue to donate to my fundraising campaign to help me and my family with my end of life expenses, including my funeral. Having cancer is expensive. You can not work and the drain on your resources is all one way - out. I would be so happy if I could leave without imposing any financial burdens on my family. My goal now is to be able to pay for my own funeral - a matter of $8,000 or so. So please continue to help me spread the word about my fundraising campaign by sharing this Go Fund Me link on your Facebook, twitter, web and social media pages. https://www.gofundme.com/help-katie-beat-it Your support has meant more to me than you will ever know - just know that when you reach out your hand to help someone else you touch them deeply. My love to you all, Katie xxxooo See more

15.01.2022 Christmas greetings to all of you. I’m sure you’ve been wondering what the heck has happened to me and Horse Talk TV and why there have been no posts on my FB page since April this year. I’ve been very ill and unable to update my FB page until now. I was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer in March this year and have been in and out of hospital for much of the subsequent time with complications from the cancer, including emergency bowel surgery leading to a colostomy bag an...d various other complications. At this time I am undertaking a new chemo drug as my cancer had which been responding well to the previous chemo became resistant and started growing back again very aggressively. I am considered ‘palliative care’ and ‘terminal’ at this stage as there is not a lot more the doctors can do in Australia to treat my cancer. However I do have one last possibility at beating this cancer which is a treatment only available in the USA, Mexico and Germany called ‘Insulin Potentiated Therapy’. However the costs of this treatment run into tens of thousands of dollars. I will be launching a charity campaign in the New Year on www.gofundme.com to help raise the funds. I will post the link on FB when the campaign is launched. Keep an eye out for it. Do you know this signs of ovarian cancer? Like most women I knew nothing about this cancer until I was diagnosed in March this year. Ovarian cancer is on of the less common cancers affecting women but unfortunately its one of the more aggressive cancers with a very high mortality rate. Only 11% of women it Stage 3 or 4 ovarian cancer make it to the 5 year survival mark. Ovarian cancer is known as the ‘silent killer’ as in Stage 1 & 2 where it has an 80% survival rate it has no symptoms at all. By the time symptoms show up (and these are very ‘vague’) the disease is always at Stage 3 or 4. Please do go to your doctor if you have any of these symptoms. It might just save your life. abdominal bloating. difficulty eating or feeling full quickly. frequent or urgent urination. back, abdominal or pelvic pain. constipation. menstrual irregularities. fatigue. indigestion. Have a safe and peaceful time with your 2 legged and 4 legged families over this holiday break. I look forward to being here to update you on my journey in the New Year. Katie xxx
