20.01.2022 Horses can help with some debilitating conditions.... '(Working with horses) helped me to be a little bit more social because normally I would never really talk about feelings or what was going on in my mind, so it made me open up a bit more," says Solitario, who between seventh and ninth grade participated in a horse-assisted group therapy program through the Project Horse Empowerment Center in Loudoun County, Virginia. "It's a different type of therapy, but it's a therapy I enjoy."'
20.01.2022 How much time do we spend worrying about what often never actually happens? There is an old saying about fear... F- False E-Expectations... A-Appearing R-Real This applies to all facets of life. How many things that you feared greatly never actually happened? Horses can install fear in some people and when they actually spend time with them, they enjoy it immensely and learn a lot about themselves and the horses....and the fear drops away and they realise it was never based on reality at all. :) #learnfromhorses #horselove #needlessworry
20.01.2022 A chuckle to end the week! I saw this recently in a group I am in... what funny names we have here.

18.01.2022 Horses are now used in so many ways to help people struggling with various difficulties and is relevant to individuals of all ages, even with families and groups. Equine therapies are often not the sole form of treatment, but rather a complementary therapeutic service to be used in partnership with more traditional treatment. If its stand alone or combined therapy, connecting with a Shire horse is a wonderful way to focus on the horse and how you feel and be in the moment to enjoy this wonderful interaction. Want to have a chat about how it may help you? Message or call us today

15.01.2022 Each of the Shire horses at Hug a horse are wonderful but they each have very different personalities... a bit like us I guess I thought I would introduce them to you Meet Stewie! Her stud name is Dothan Stewardess and she is a mature mare imported from the UK some years back. ... Stewie has produced some beautiful foals so far and we look forward to seeing her gracefully age over the years. Stewie is a fantastic Mum and surrogate mum, especially when there are foals weaning as she provides a steady motherly influence for them at this time. Stewie plays a bit part in the hug a horse world, she loves a hug or ten and is a gentle soul I look forward to you meeting her #hugahorse #stewieisagreatmum #shiresofmyrtleforest
15.01.2022 Shire horse - Threatened The Shire horse gets its name from the rural "shires," or counties, in England, where it was traditionally used for agriculture, heavy ...hauling, and war. The breed descends from the Great Horse of medieval England, a large, strong mount which could carry a knight and armor weighing up to 400 pounds with swiftness and agility. 10.01.2022 Introducing Katherine :) Katherine was born on 22nd November 2018 and is a beautiful black and white Shire horse filly! One might say she is the epitome of the dream Shire horse :) She has quite a reserved personality, bit like her dam, Wyee Jessica. ... She has a beautiful action with lovely long, strong legs and a compact body making her a well structured Shire filly to grow into a valuable member of our breeding herd. Katherine will bring in amazing new bloodlines in the next few years, that will enable our stallion Mr Dynamite to continue to add to the diversity within our herd while bringing out the very best in Shire attributes and personality that he has brought through in all his foals to date! We are excited about what Katherine will bring to the table as she develops. Its early days yet but she is a rockstar ! #shiresofmyrtleforest #myrtleforestkatherine #hugahorse #shirehorse

09.01.2022 So how have Shire horses been used in history you may ask? According to author Donna Campbell Smith, The Book of Draft Horses: The Gentle Giants That Built the World, in 1924 a pair of Shire draft horses pulled 50 tons (100,000 pounds), which is 20,000 pounds more than the weight of a semi truck. Other sources we found recorded that they pulled only 45 tons. Only. Either way, that’s a lot of weight. That same year, another Shire single-handedly, or single-hoofedly, pulled 29 ...tons (58,000 pounds) the combined weight of three full-grown male African elephants and then some. The horse in question was from Liverpool and shod in that city’s preferred horseshoe style at the time, which meant he was basically wearing cleats. Still, that’s some impressive pulling power. You can meet our Shires in person at Hug a horse Small groups a specialty #shirepullingpower #hugahorse #horsestrength

07.01.2022 Horses are amazing teachers. When we work with horses, we must understand they come for a place of being in the present moment, with no judgement and Everything it takes to build a good relationship with people is learned in our time with horses.
06.01.2022 Love Love Love it, this is absolutely amazing
06.01.2022 Meet Bella Bella is quite a unique member of Hug a Horse. In fact, you don't see many grey Shire horses anywhere. Greys Shires are quite rare with less than 190 in the world so we are very fortunate to have her.... Bella is a maiden mare (meaning she has never had a foal) but this will all change this year. This spring Bella will be going into foal to a famous UK bred stallion, Goose Green John Wesley. I know, some of the stud names can be a bit funny!!! Anyway, we expect a beautiful grey foal from Bella to add to this rare colour in the breed and supplement this colour worldwide. She is indeed a bit special. We love her because she has a lovely affectionate nature and even though she has taken while to get to know her, she is now quite happy for heaps of love and hugs. Why not take the time to unplug and come and meet Bella :) #welovebella #greyshirehorse #hugahorse
06.01.2022 Here is a Blast from the Past! A ship the size of the Titanic needed some serious stopping gear! The anchor commissioned for the vessel weighed a whopping 16 tonnes, and was forged at Noah Hingley & Sons ironworks in Netherton, in England’s Midlands. ... In order to get the anchor to the Titanic, it needed to be transported from the Netherton ironworks to Dudley Railway Station, where it was taken by train to Lancashire before being loaded on a cargo steamer for the voyage to the Titanic‘s shipyard in Belfast, Northern Ireland. All well and good for the train and the boat; but how could the anchor reach the train in the first place? The answer came in the form of twenty Shire horses, each capable of pulling about two tonnes. On the 29th of May, 1911, the town trams were stopped and the townsfolk lined the roads to watch the horses haul the anchor 3.2km to the goods yard at Dudley Railway Station. An incredible feat of the sheer strength, stamina and tenacity of the amazing Shire horse #shirehorses #hugahorse #shirehorsestamina

01.01.2022 Gratitude is the MOTHER of all qualities. It will always make things feel better. If you find something to be grateful for, you will find some joy in your life. I find gratitude with my horses, for being with them and the lessons they teach me. They live in the moment and take every minute and savour it.... Try it yourself sometime, it does wonders for the soul #hugahorse #gratitude #shirehorselove #shiresofmyrtleforest
01.01.2022 Hug a Horse is all about experiences with horses and learning what they have to teach us... I learned some valuable life lessons this past weekend from my gorgeous horse, Freyja. The challenge with lessons in life is..... First, understanding what the lessons are, Then, taking the lessons on board And then, taking steps to embed the lessons so you change the way you interact in life! What I choose to take away from the teachings from my horse is up to me and it is a humbling experience to realise these and apply them to my daily life. Thank you Freyja!
