21.01.2022 The other week, when the wind was calm, we headed to Middle Island...keen to explore more... A perfect day, some interesting terrain... Found my favourite (they... are all favourites really) nudibranch, the Jorunna funebris ("sea bunny"), some interesting growth, new coral, pretty blue acropora, and lovely green coral as well. It was joy... I hope you like it too! I diving #divebowen #bowen #explorewhitsundays

20.01.2022 I am so sorry to all that planned to come out this Sunday! I have had to postpone this event until the following weekend. I hope you can all still make it. Thanks for your understanding

15.01.2022 I often find so much cool stuff in a 2 hour dive, it's hard to share it all at once! Now that it's a little blowy at the moment...time for digging out some mor...e to share. The other day, I went out in Rose Bay, and found love was all around! Heaps of nudibranch pairs getting together like in the photos... Nudibranchs are hermaphrodites: they have both male and female reproductive organs, but can't fertilise themselves... As the reproductive organs are on the right hand side of the body, they line up in opposite directions. With all that loveydovey going on, I had to look away, and focus on some more unusual corals... When you take time to explore, you find there is beauty just everywhere... Well, I think so anyway! I diving

14.01.2022 WARNING!! Watch until the end of clip! Cuteness overload.! Oh myjust when you think what else can I find in Bowen here we find the mostest of cutestssss... of fish: Yellow boxfish Ostracion cubicus This one was only a tiny tiny juvenile..no bigger than 2cm! Boxfish are related to pufferfishes and filefishes, they have a square and rigid body, seem awkward when they swim, but can still speed of quickly when they need to! They can release a toxin from their skin, when stressed, that can be lethal to fish surrounding them. Yellow boxfish feed on algae, small crustaceans, worms and fish. I could watch this adorable bright yellow polka dot little one ALL DAY! Happy Thursday I diving #divebowen #bowen #thisisqueensland

13.01.2022 CRACKDOWN! New regulations target travellers who camp illegally in rest areas ... a move that has been welcomed by truckies. https://www.thegreynomads.com.au/rest-6/

08.01.2022 Cruising along the reef around Middle Island the other day, brought many surprises The first, our boat having shifted anchor, in very very calm seasthat’s af...ter it was secured during our first dive, and interval time, on an outgoing tidevery surprised that happened!? It was on the Halloween weekend, so perhaps Middle Island was playing a trickincluding the dead fish next to our boat when we came upooooh The second surprise was finding this amazing sea apple! Sea apples are part of the family that for instance sea cucumbers, sea stars, sea urchins etc belong to as wellthe echinoderm family. They have a rounded body, rows of tube feet with which they move around, and they are filter feedersfeeding on mostly plankton. They catch it with their tentacles, then bringing each tentacle to its mouth, scraping off the plankton They come in many different colours I was lucky enough to find this one... So colourful, bright red and green! Like a Christmas bauble I diving #divebowen #bowen #thisisqueensland

04.01.2022 Sometimes, all you need is some softness around you...the days can be so bright and harsh... So here’s a dreamy sunset at Rose Bay...pretty cream and pink corals ...lacy polyps, and delicate tentacles... Dreaming away on a soft pillow that is our Coral Sea...

04.01.2022 Fishes in Horseshoe Bay... Low tide, lots of lovely light...lots of beautiful fishes around. Go for a snorkel or dive! and join in the fun!... I diving #thisisqueensland #divebowen #bowen #horseshoebaybowen

03.01.2022 A beautiful sunny orange nudibranch... ‘Halgerda aurantiomaculata’... I just named her sunny spots!... I’ll be at the front beach picnic table for my lunch break 12-1.30pm, today Friday Nov 13, if you like to grab a calendar! In front of the electric car charging station. See you there?!

01.01.2022 Yay! Finally the wind is dropping...and I was able to go out again...a week is way too long without diving! So this is what I found, amongst other things...... Feather stars Feather stars date back some 200 million yearsfound from shallow reefs to deep oceans, and from the Equator to the poles, these beauties are thought of as living fossils. Not all feather stars can swimsome can only crawl along the bottom. They come in lots of colours, and I find lots of them a bit further out from the baysthey catch food with their feather like arms filter feeders, so catching the tides and currents out the back suits them perfectly. Isn’t she graceful? I could watch this for hours I diving #divebowen #bowen
