24.01.2022 Some guest riders return with the promise to exceed their reputation of most outrageous riding outfit. I’m glad I got the saddle blanket and lead rope to do it justice.

23.01.2022 Meanwhile in the pre-school department... This is just how Jaws likes his equines and humans alike: Good to sharpen the teeth with. Just for Emma Matheson and ...Garry Matheson in case you find some patches of missing hair on her. Little Raven will tell about the confident tall white stranger for a long time to come. She is doing so well being without her family herd and the first time she has left the property where she was born. Her owner has come to do some stress-free trailer loading training with her with the assuring support of Jaws, and we have full confidence that Raven will be able to go home and be reunited with her family in their new home this weekend. Jaws is going to be very disappointed when she leaves him, but he will accompany her on first ever trailer trip. See more

22.01.2022 Fire-N-Ice Toby vs Metallic Gold Kalypso: Lessons in Respect. Or is it about who is the shiniest?

18.01.2022 4 weeks without internet after an extreme weather event when you live and work alone from a home without mobile phone reception does send you a little insane. But Hello to the real world, I'm back online!! In my episode of insanity I decided to stop my tours for a while because realistically there isn't far we can go and 5 km loops is not what I do. We ride far and we ride fast and that's not possible at the moment. The last 4 months with it's extreme weather tantrums has b...een very difficult with more tours cancelled than actually going ahead and not everybody seems to be aware that I don't run mountain bike tours where the bikes can sit in the shed until the day the clients arrive. Preparations for horse tours start a long time before clients arrive. We go long distances over multiple days on extremely fit horses. Horses need daily care, which means daily work and costs regardless whether there are tours or not. Keeping them fit and ready to do a tough job means more time and costs. Insurance premiums are a huge expense. Preparing for tours which repeatedly need to be cancelled and asking clients for their understanding or clients wanting to change or cancel the booking at short notice, makes you just go around in circles and getting exhausted doing it. So I have decided to close the business for 3 months so I can reduce my costs considerable (farrier, horse feed and insurance) and put my energy in something that will be of benefit (my property). The forest is a mess and will take months to clean up and repair by Forestry. This photo is from 2 years ago when we rode a few weeks after we had a mini-cyclone storm locally. As the day and week progressed we got more desperate if we would actually manage to find a way home. It took about 2 months to open up the trails again. This time it will be longer because there are more landslides and damaged bridges than ever before. I will clean up my property and re-open 3-5 day riding tours in August, providing that I have enough bookings to make it worthwhile because having a couple of weekend rides does not compare to the income of regular week tours my business is built on and which depends on International tourism. In the meantime: Happy Riding!! I'm off to paint my fences and still have my Brumbies to train while the hardworking mob of Arabs have a rest with a dash of arena work. My sanity will be restored. 17.01.2022 Izzy, Craig and Janelle. Three guest riders and friends returning to Kerewong for a weekend to ride. A bit hot in the bush, but pleasant and windy on the beach. Summer is here!

16.01.2022 Please share the word Autumn light is delightful for taking photos, let's make the most of it :D

16.01.2022 A little snippet of last weeks beach ride. Love the sound of waves.

16.01.2022 The new Three Musketeers. I don't have a preference for horse breeds although I am used to Arabians and therefore appreciate the Brumbies. :) But I do like seeing and working horses of the same breed together in a group. And although my 3 Guy Fawkes Heritage Horses are of very different type, they share the same genetic makeup and are family.

14.01.2022 A very cool thing to do for a weekend away is taking part in River Horse Training and Trekking 's Mountain Trail Challenge Clinic in Dorrigo NSW. Dodge had a r...elaxing time while earning his gold stars as usual. The Blonde Brumby had a few mental breakdowns as usual but after a few "Aha-Erlebnisse" (a German saying) he mastered getting his shit together, all while looking beautiful as always. Thank you Kate Young and Erica Jessup for a fun weekend and Taphyl Stewart for reminding Blondie how to find his brain and taking Dodge on the higher altitude obstacles, just because my leg will not forgive me a second time.

14.01.2022 18 Days are between these two photos. I have never had a rescue horse but this is really amazing to witness the change in such a short time. Gaining the trust of a scared horse is everything.

12.01.2022 No Hoof No Horse, the saying goes. The most important for my long distance horse trekking business is that my horses have good feet and strong legs and a good farrier! Rehabilitation from long term neglect of horses hooves is not a matter of one quick fix by the farrier. It takes 9-12 months for a hoof to fully grow new from top to bottom. Long term neglect or incorrect trimming can change the hoof angle and structure. Example Kalypso. In the last 4 months, the farrier has ...trimmed Kalypso's feet every 6 weeks (3 times). In the first photo you can clearly see the old ridge lines at the bottom half of the hoof and the change in the smooth top half of the hoof after he came to me. The top half of his hooves look healthy now with better angle and the horse is starting to move better. After 4 months he is halfway there to have healthy hooves. The lines are often explained with a change in nutrition but in Kalypso's case the ridge lines are also a sign of pressure on the hoof wall because it was growing too long at the toe. That is how long it takes for a horse to recover from hoof neglect and why it is part of basic horse care to maintain their hooves regularly. I include a photo (the second photo) after his first trim in late November where you can see the ridge lines at the top of the hoof and now they have grown halfway down. Good job!, Bertrand Sonneville See more

11.01.2022 And on the 25th day, the sickly little frog had turned into a slender handsome Prince, dreaming to one day become a powerful King!

10.01.2022 Kalypso & Mindy Love Story - Final Episode. After 3 days the two Big Leaders gave their blessings to the overjoyed young Kalypso and his mature beautiful wife, who had been hidden out of his sight for 2.5 months before destiny unfolded! The young lover seems a bit confused about Mindy's somewhat inconsistent moods, sometimes following him around affectionately all day and other times telling him to piss off. You might say they are on their second honeymoon. May they live happily ever after in the green Kerewong Pastures. The End.

09.01.2022 This photo may not seem like a big deal but it is 4 professionally trimmed feet of WP Kalypso, who we could not go near on arrival 6 weeks ago and his legs could still not even be touched 4 weeks ago. So to me it is a very big deal to have 4 properly trimmed hooves as it was very overdue. After al lot of practise I had hoped that the farrier could do his front feet today and to my pleasant surprise we even were able to do his back feet without much fuss. This Guy Fawkes horse is becoming very rewarding to work with. So glad the strain of overgrown toes is off his joints and tendons from now on. Thank you my farrier Bertrand Sonneville for patience and skills. Oh and that's his dog in the background, not mine.

09.01.2022 Kickstarting a busy November with the first group photo. As always, Pepe is having the best time!

09.01.2022 In one month from Poor Little Guy to Shiniest Horse on the Kerewong property, with a little bit of Gold shining through.

07.01.2022 Kerewong Kalypso, you may happen to be my Lucky Charm. I had nothing much going on for my business when I decided to take a chance on you. In the last few weeks since you arrived I have had so many booking enquiries that I can now say I am fully booked with weekend and week riding tours until the end of January! Yay for the people of NSW Australia! I am glad to call NSW Australia home, for once it is good to be far away from the rest of the world.

07.01.2022 The joy of meeting a new friend. Still a bit of stallion in him but it will wear off.

07.01.2022 Water Happiness on a warm Australia Day Long Weekend Ride.

06.01.2022 Traditionally each year in November we take the photos under the blossoming Jacaranda trees at the winery. We have not been there this spring due to Covid. But this year the tree I planted a few years ago as a shade tree in the horse paddock is blossoming for the first time! And yes, this is Kalypso 6.5 weeks from arrival, quite the handsome man.

06.01.2022 KALYPSO Herd Integration and Mindy Love Story: We are almost at the Finale: Jaws Return to the Stage. The content of this video reads as: The lovely couple huddling together watching Jaws enter the herd and checking in with all members. He spots Mindy, who belongs to him. There is a 5 second scuffle and Kalypso is reminded why to stay clear of Jaws. Kalypso withdraws, pretending to be busy eating. And the waiting game starts again. However, Jimmy aside, Kalypso is now fairl...y well accepted by the entire herd, they actually don't mind him at all, and he has friends who support him. It is now Three Brumbies Without the Runaway Arabian Mare and on the other side the Arabians of Team Nadal. Where the Arabian mare ends up will become clear soon, probably by the end of the week. My bet is on Kalypso because I know first hand the stubbornness of the Arabian mare and true love conquers all. See more

05.01.2022 Kalypsos Journey update

05.01.2022 Had fun with the rides with my excellent riders and fun with creating the little video. Enjoy watching! Kuta, Dream, Valentino and The Blonde Brumby worked pretty hard on a summer Australia Day long weekend (2021).

04.01.2022 A group of young riders giving my horses the opportunity to shine. I never felt safer than riding with the 3 (UK expats) Doctors this weekend, 2 of them Emergency Specialist Doctors! These girls know how to have fun! Video is in the making.

04.01.2022 Guy Fawkes Dodge. The Kerewong Gold Nugget. Brave. Willing. Confident. Generous. Kind. Greatness comes disguised in many shapes and sizes. Thank you River Horse Training and Trekking for a great weekend and the photo.

03.01.2022 Pepe proudly presents our own tiny Kerewong Waterfalls and Rain forest.

03.01.2022 https://youtu.be/XQziYxA7tQU Sometimes the stars line up to something spectacular and the Kerewong horses can show what they train and condition for.

02.01.2022 We were safe at Kerewong during the one in one-hundred years flood event in our Australian NSW region last week (1 metre of rain in 4 days at Kerewong!!). We have been without power, phone and internet for the past week and flooded in due to high rivers, but all has been restored except internet so I have to drive up the road for 3 kms to get a signal. Unfortunately our fully booked Easter Ride will have to be cancelled because Forest access is closed due to the massive damag...e and the time it will take to repair roads, trails, trees, bridges and landslides. What I have been doing after the rain stopped? Cleaning up and putting some time into the little guy who a few weeks ago showed he had some major problems with getting used to the feeling of a girth around him even though he was fine with all the rope work I did. So we took it a bit slower and now with time, patience and lots of praise here he is. Looking quite proud of himself. Ready to progress to a saddle soon, but first lots of repetition with the flexible rug girth to make sure he doesn’t have another meltdown. My thoughts are with the many people and animals who went through last weeks disaster less fortunate. See more
