17.01.2022 Anyone else feeling like this at the end of 2020? Tigger the mini is quite at home in his owners' living room in Texas, USA. They split their time between th...eir home in the city and their cattle station. When they make the move, Tigger and his fellow miniature, Tuffy, ride in the back seat of their ute. : Brian Jackson

12.01.2022 What are the Real Basics in Training? - With Dr. Andrew McLean - Ph.D. (Equine Cognition and Learning) BSc Zoology, Dip Ed. When talking about training horses i...n particular begins Dr. McLean, we are talking about training that comes from pressure and release which is called negative reinforcement. That means that a response or behaviour is strengthened by stopping the pressure. The horse moves away from pressure of the rider’s leg and the horse is rewarded by the removal of the pressure. Close your fingers around the reins, the horse responds and the pressure ceases. It is the removal of the pressure that is the training aid more so than the pressure. However, it is important to back up negative reinforcement with some positive reinforcement and that is called Combined Reinforcement. That means that when we apply the pressure and the horse responds as we ask, we remove the pressure and say good boy and give him a scratch on the wither as a positive reinforcement. Not all the problems we encounter with horses are of our own making, but I think we should blame ourselves for a lot of it. Issues that can affect the progress of our training are the horse’s health, as if it is in pain any training is at least compromised and unethical. The horse’s conformation too has a bearing on its ability to perform certain movements and this must be taken into consideration. However, we also have to recognize that some horses have a greater propensity to do things that we don’t want. I.E. some horses would never rear and some do so at the drop of a hat as we discussed a few months ago. It is the same with any kind of hyperreactive behaviour, some horses are much more wired to offer it early. The way I see it when you are asking a horse to do something, it is as if it has a pull-down list of responses and the one you want may be below kicking out or rearing. The horse’s propensity may be part of the response, but by and large we make a lot of mistakes in training...read more: https://www.horsedeals.com.au//what-are-the-real-basics-in
03.01.2022 Pony Club wants to hear from boys! Patrick Perkins, 11, from Rathdowney Pony Club loves his pony Max and going to Pony Club. He especially enjoys the thrill of ...mounted games. But there are fewer boys than girls enjoying Pony Club and Pony Club Australia is keen to find out why. We are reaching out to males aged 12 and over to find out their thoughts on Pony Club. All current and past male members, as well as males who have never been involved with horses, are invited to take part in a short online survey. You can find the survey (and a chance to win PlayStation gift cards!) here: https://tinyurl.com/PCAboyssurvey #boysatponyclub #boyssports #alifewithhorsesstartshere #ponyclubproud
