We know that many have families interstate and overseas bringing additional stresses and ask that everyone take time to consider others and always be kind and understanding. 06.01.2022 Chatting to my son about the fact our soccer season would be underway I asked him how he felt? He said ‘people should step outside and smell the air’.... I asked him why. He told me he went outside this morning and ‘it smelled like soccer season’ I asked him what soccer season smells like? and he replied... The air’s fresh, I can smell rain, there are wood fires going and reminds me of being around the boys at the club. It got me thinking - it really does deserve acknowledgement. To some, I understand that’s irrelevant. To many, and especially in the country - it means a fair bit... Social connection. Physical connection. Emotional connection. Mental connection. Physical fitness. A sense of contribution. A sense of certainty and routine. A feeling of significance. A love of the game, people, our clubs and our leagues. Possibly even growth. So from a ‘human needs’ perspective it really does meet a few. Clubs all around our league (and in fact the country) pour their heart and soul into ‘the game’ Which ultimately means they pour their heart and soul into ‘The people’. So it does deserve acknowledgement, because it not only keeps a lot of us socially connected and now more than ever we realise the importance of this! But it pours money into our communities and even more importantly - it keeps our kids safe and off the streets - it gives them purpose. It provides a culture for individuals and families to be a strong part of - no matter which club they ‘belong to’. We all love that ‘healthy rivalry’ and without that, none of it would exist. Basically, It keeps us fit and healthy in all areas of life. It’s not for everyone but it is for those who choose to make it part of their lives. So yes, it does deserve acknowledgement. I speak from a ‘soccer perspective because I have a boy and that’s what I know’ but any of you involved in sport get this - no matter what game you coach, play, support or volunteer at. We owe a bit to it all really. I challenge you to reach out to at least one of your club members today & keep kicking the ball

For full report... https://www.footballvictoria.com.au/news Football Victoria (FV) today welcomes the advice given by the Victorian Government regarding its decision to ease Stage 3 COVID-19 restrictions. "With regards to football, Football Victoria is still awaiting detailed guidance from Sport and Recreation Victoria (SRV) as to the specifics for how football training can be made compliant with the latest regulations. SRV has confirmed it will provide that guidance As outlined above, the detailed guidance we are seeking from SRV includes: Engagement with Councils in relation to a return to training to ensure facilities are available. Any actions that need to be undertaken prior to the resumption of training - i.e. facility deep clean. Cleaning and hygiene before, during and after sessions. Whether facilities with multiple pitches can have a group of 10 per pitch and/or whether multiple groups can train on one pitch. When clubs will be allowed to run full-scale training and return to normal competitions. How we will liaise with other sports who may be seeking to use the same facility at the same time. What safety protocols may need to be undertaken to ensure the safety of all participants. Filopoulos said that FV’s extensive discussions with stakeholder groups - especially with clubs - brought home a desire for certainty.
