11.01.2022 Getting to know the team at Hosford Health Clinic! Meet another member of our team: Dr Stephen Salisbury, Osteopath 1. What made you decide to become an Osteopath?... It started out with trying to find a career which helped and cared for people. From there Osteopathy stood out in its holistic approach. Addressing the physical and mental facets of pain, discussing stress management, diet, posture and exercises with patients, it all sounded and still is very exciting. 2. Have you always lived in Melbourne? Yes, I have lived in Melbournes outer east my whole life. 3. What are some of your hobbies? I love surfing and fishing. I also hope to be self-sufficient at some stage, so digging in the veggie patch and researching additional fruit trees takes up a fair bit of my spare time. 4. Whats your favorite indoor/outdoor activity? Indoor activity: Trying to read all of Wikipedia, but Im pretty sure its growing faster then I can read it. Outdoor activity: Definitely going to the beach. Surfing, reading in the sun, beach cricket, its the best. 5. What is your favorite form of exercise? Lifting weights and boxing. 6. What is your favorite time of day/day of the week/month of the year? My favourite time of the day is somewhere around 6-7pm when I open the front door to see my daughters big grin. Friday gets the nod for best day of the week. January is my favourite month of the year, actually all of summer is pretty good. 7. What sound do you love? We have a creek at the back of our block. I love lying in bed listening to the frogs at night, not so much the kookaburras in the morning! 8. If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would you meet? CS Lewis, he authored most of my favourite books. 9. If you could be any fictional character, who would you choose? Definitely no one from Game of Thrones, chance of survival fairly minimal. Ill go with Jason Bourne, he has some handy skills and the memory loss keeps him pretty humble about it. 10. What did you do growing up that got you into trouble? I didnt get into trouble very much. I received one detention in high school, for walking through a garden bed to get a tennis ball. From memory I even took care to avoid stepping on any plants. 11. What would surprise us to know about you? I dont drink hot drinks. Ive tried and tried, because people in Melbourne are always asking you out for a coffee, but they continue to taste awful to me. I might try again in another 10 years or so. 12. If you werent working as a health practitioner what would you be doing? Landscape architecture; designing parks, backyards, office green spaces, with plenty of fruit trees included of course. Id also like to set up a charity where people donate their holiday homes for a couple of weeks a year to families who cant otherwise afford to take a break. Thanks Stephen! 10.01.2022 Getting to know the team at Hosford Health Clinic! Dr Robin Hosford, Osteopath pops in to answer a few questions about himself. 1. What made you decide to become an osteo/massage practitioner?... My mother was a nurse and my father was a sports biomechanist. There were always anatomy books lying around the house and my mother taught me to massage from an early age. So I guess it was inevitable Id end up doing something in health or sports! 2. What are some of your hobbies? On the sports front I enjoy golf, jogging and cycling. I also have a passion for photography and salsa dancing, and met my wife on the dance floor! 3. Whats your favorite indoor/outdoor activity? Aside from chilling out at the local café with a latte, nothing relaxes me more than going for a long bushwalk. 4. If you could be any fictional character, who would you choose? Marvin the Martian. 5. What would surprise us to know about you? I have written and professionally recorded a song, which I played to my wife when I proposed to her. The process was done in secret and took two years to finish. 6. If you werent working as a health practitioner what would you be doing? Teaching. Ive always loved working with others and Im lucky that I get to act as a mentor in my role as an osteopath. Thanks Robin! Check out the team at http://www.hosfordhealthclinic.com.au/the-team

08.01.2022 Did you know ... Since cartilage discs expand in the absence of gravity, astronauts returning from space may be 1.5 to 2 inches taller than when they left! Gravitys effect on cartilage is also the cause of humans shrinking between a quarter of an inch and five inches every decade after the age of 40.... It also means we are generally taller in the morning than at night because of the daily effect of gravity on the body.

07.01.2022 Getting to know the team at Hosford Health Clinic! Meet another member of our team: Dr. Ongputra Logianto, Osteopath. 1. What made you decide to become an Osteopath?... It was when I was still doing my biomedical science degree, after I got myself involved in a little bit of laboratory work and research I realised that being stuck in a lab looking at tissue/blood samples is not my cup of tea. So then I decided to become an Osteopath which allows me to apply my passion in the medical field and directly interact with patients. 2. Have you always lived in Melbourne? I was born and raised in Surabaya, Indonesia. It was in September 2001 that I came to Melbourne to study in year 10. Since then I have always been back to Surabaya every now and then to visit some old friends or relatives. 3. What are some of your hobbies? Since I was a boy i have always been interested in martial arts and at the moment I train Brazilian Jiujitsu regularly. 4. If you could be any fictional character, who would you choose? Goku from Dragon Ball :) 5. If you could learn to do anything, what would it be? I would love to learn how to play piano. Thanks Ongputra! 06.01.2022 Did you know ... About 80% of the brain is water! Your brain isnt the firm, gray mass youve seen on TV. Living brain tissue is a squishy, pink and jelly-like organ thanks to the loads of blood and high water content of the tissue. So the next time youre feeling dehydrated get a drink to keep your brain hydrated.

06.01.2022 Did you know ... Lower back pain is the most common type of back pain experienced. This is because the lower back twists and bends more than any other part of the back and it also bears the weight of the upper body.

03.01.2022 Did you know ... It takes more muscles to frown than it does to smile!
